A Day of Fury in Brazilian Football

As you're probably aware, Brazilian football (CBF and CONMEBOL for that matter) have no respect for the international break. So two matches took place in Brazil on Wednesday night one for Copa Sudamericana and one for the Brasileiro. And it was enough for the biggest collective nervous breakdown, I've ever seen.

Why Brazil Failed in the U17 World Cup

The same way the U20 World Cup generated some analysis, the failure of the U17 deserves even more talk. First of all, being eliminated in group that had Mexico, Switzerland and Japan is a shame. There is simply no excuse.

This pathetic elimination was so bad that no projections for the future can be made.

Dunga Calls Fabio Aurelio, Hulk and Michel Bastos

Dunga announced today the players who will play the last 2 matches of the year (against England and Oman). And he had a few surprises. Given that he decided not to call players from Brazilian clubs (and therefore was unable to call Adriano and Diego Tardelli), he called forward Hulk. But he wasn't the only surprise.

Brasileiro: Leaders Fail to Win and Inter Celebrates

The 28th round of Brasileirao was big obstacle for the leaders of the tournament. Palmeiras, Sao Paulo, Goias and Atletico-MG failed to win. The only side rubbing its hand and smiling is Inter, as it pocketed 3 points.

On Thursday, Palmeiras received Avai at home knowing that on the day before Sao Paulo had failed to win.

Brazil Will Do Its Preparation for the 2010 WC in Angola

Journalist Cosme Rimolli reports in his blog that before going to South Africa, the team headed by Dunga will do its preparation in Lubango, city 676 km from Luanda (in the picture).

The information was disclosed in an interview with Tsambo Makaba, owner of the company who is bridging CBF and Angola's government in the negotiations.

CBF announced today that Brazil will play a friendly match against England on November 14th. Where? Doha, Qatar. Why? The organization sold the right of all friendlies of the national team. And the people who bought it can organize the matches wherever they please.

In the meantime, While CBF pockets money and Brazilian fans do not get to see their national squad, Brazilian clubs struggle financially.

2014 World Cup: Host Cities Miss the First Deadline

The newspaper Folha de S. Paulo reported that the Brazilian cities that will host the 2014 World Cup missed their first deadline. The nine cities that will use tax payers' money to build stadiums failed to publish the invitation to the bidding process by the final date set by the local organizing committee.

The Brazilian Football Confederation, the CBF, has just announced that Internacional's 20-year-old midfielder, Sandro Ranieri, has been brought in to replace the injured Josué.

The youngster will join the squad for Brazil's World Cup qualifiers against Argentina on September 5th and Chile four days later.

Separation of church from sport

Sepp Blatter has irked the Vatican with his condemnation of the Seleccao huddling together for prayer after their victory over the USA in the Confederations Cup finals.

He called their gesture "a danger" and said there was "no room for religion in soccer." Blatter has also promised he would prohibit any kind of religious expression during the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

The Brazilian Football Confederation, the CBF, have confirmed that Brazil will take on England in a friendly in November 2009.

The game will be played in Qatar's capital, Doha, and has been provisionally scheduled for 14th November. The venue, though, has yet to be decided.
