The 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup is only a week away and all 8 teams have namer their rosters
for the tournament. Headlining the field is reigning Euro 2008 Champions Spain as well as 2006
World Cup winners Italy, and perennial powerhouses Brazil. The other teams in the field are the
United States, hosts South Africa, New Zealand, Iraq, and Egypt.
Its a list, and a damned long one, but well worth taking a look at! We love Four Four Two,
almost as much as we love Fennec Fox's.
Our friends over at Four Four Two have compiled their annual list of the top
100 players in the world today, take a look below and let us know what you think?
Cesc Fabregas looks set to miss Spain's Confederations Cup clash with Iraq after Xabi Alonso
injured him for the second time this season.
Alonso was the man who sidelined Fabregas for four months after the two Spaniards entered into a
50-50 challenge during the 1-1 Emirates Stadium draw earlier this season.
Away goals, away goals, away goals. That's the name of the game tomorrow as we take on Villareal
at tiny El Madrigal stadium. You'd have to have to love our chances if we grabbed a goal or two and
forced Villareal to run up and down the pitch at Emirates Stadium with us next week.
Villareal have had an up and down year so far.
Morning all. Getting pretty stoked for the Champions League match tomorrow I must say.
Unfortunately, they will definitely show the Manchester United match on tv here so I'll be stuck
watching it on my computer while I watch the scum on tv.
I watched WrestleMania 25 last night. I have to say that Undertaker vs Shawn Michaels was a great
match, classic even, but I was mad that Undertaker won because I think Michaels was better and more
entertaining.
Morning, it's gonna be a quiet bank holiday blog this morning. There's really not a lot
stirring.
No doubt Arsene will be keeping his remaining centre-halves wrapped in cotton wool this week. We
know what kind of a position an injury would leave us in so I'm sure vigorous challenges in
training will be outlawed.
This past weekend as Villarreal was humiliated 3-0 by Almería, Santi Cazorla was stretchered off
in the 64th minute with a foot injury. After the game it was revealed that he has an ankle fracture
which will keep him out for a minimum of four months. As it is we
Liverpool full-back Alvaro Arbeloa could be given a rare chance to start for Spain in Tuesday's
international friendly against Azerbaijan, should Sergio Ramos fail to regain full fitness.
The versatile Real Madrid defender suffered a hip injury just before the club's final game of the
Primera Division season against Osasuna.

USA (4-4-2) - Howard; Spector, Onyewu, Bocanegra, Demerit; Dempsey (88' Bornstein), Clark, Bradley,
Donovan; Davies (69' Feilhaber), Altidore (83' Casey).
Joel Santana's squad needs to work on stopping those back breaking free kicks which seem to doom
them at the last minute. This time it was Xabi Alonso's extra time free kick in the 107th minute
that sank South Africa.
Vicente Del Bosque went to his deep bench strength. Sergio Ramos whose poor clearance led to
Dempsey's goal was replaced by Raul Albiol.
Xabi Alonso wants his future sorted out before the weekend but faces the dilemma of whether to go
public on his desire to leave Liverpool for Real Madrid.
The Spain midfielder has reportedly already told Anfield boss Rafa Benitez that he wants to be part
of the Bernabeu revolution and is said to be frustrated by the lack of progress on a deal.
The World Cup is a time of triumph and heartache. Over the last few weeks football fans from
all over the world have heard about the powerhouse squads that will likely miss the coveted
tournament.
Argentina, Portugal, France, and the Czech Republic are just a few of the excellent squads that
will most likely watch the Cup from home.
Real Betis v Villareal Match Preview Villarreal playmaker Ariel Ibagaza has warned his side to
brace themselves for a Real Betis backlash as the Andalusian outfit look to atone for last

The legend that is Robert Pires will face Arsenal for the first time since leaving the London
for tonight's opposition - Villareal CF. The Frenchman's last game for the Gunners was the 2005/06
Champions League final, when he was substituted off early in the match after Jens Lehmann was sent
off.
Even George Steinbrenner in his heydays could never match Ramon Calderon in his contemptuous
disregard of managers. Exhibit A is Fabio Capello who actually won them the Liga in 2007 after
Fiorentina Perez's expensive set of superstars went three seasons without a title. The Italian with
his unimaginative style but effective style of soccer was fired even as Juande Ramos, the present
coach emulates his approach.
Week 31 of La Liga was pretty much status quo with little movement at the top & bottom of the
table. Barcelona got an 18th minute goal from Lionel Messi to beat Getafe 1-0 on the road. Real
Madrid has Barca in sight with a 48th minute goal from Marcelo to win 1-0 on the road against
Recreativo.
David Villa scored the only goal of the game as Spain booked their semi final place with
a hard fought victory against Iraq.
The Valencia hitmen headed Capdevila‘s cross into the far corner just before the hour mark
after squandering numerous chances. Iraq were resilient throughout with a tactic that proved to
frustrate the Spaniards.

Another impressive display from the Spanish Armada as David Villa sealed a semi-final appearance
for the La Roja.
Spain are through to the semi-finals of the FIFA Confederations Cup South Africa 2009 but they
were made to work for their place, and a 1-0 victory, by a resolute Iraq side.
Over the weekend, Cristiano Ronaldo, confidently stated that Spain's top flight, La Liga, was a
better league than the English Premier League. He specifically cited the current influx of top
class stars to La Liga as his evidence. (Given Ronaldo's ego he was probably referring to
himself..... and, at a push, Kaka) However, does Real Madrid's single handed recruitment drive
improve the quality of La Liga or, simply, Madrid themselves?

tal vez no podríamos.
Santi Cazorla, Villareal's versatile presence in the midfield will miss the Arsenal match with
an ankle fracture sustained in the Liga encounter with CD Almeria. In fact, the Spanish
international will be out for four months or more.
In better news for the club, Marcos Senna and Cani are back, in time to help their squad in this
crucial encounter.
Villarreal have been dealt another significant injury blow after Marcos Senna was ruled out of
Wednesday's second leg against Arsenal with a left hamstring problem.
The Spanish international picked up the knock in the second half of Saturday's 2-0 home defeat
by Málaga, limping off ten minutes from time as his side, having already made their three
permitted substitutions, were left to play out the match with ten men.
Last week it was Santi Cazorla that was being lamented prior to Villarreal's away leg match against
Arsenal. News got worse for Manuel Pellegrini when Spanish international Marcos Senna would be
ruled out of the return leg of the Champions League quarterfinals in London.
Senna left the pitch limping late Saturday night after he suffered a hamstring injury in the
team's 2-0 loss to Málaga.
The quest for the La Liga trophy has resumed after an exciting break for World Cup qualifiers.
Spain's Top 3 teams continued their winning ways with tough 1-0 road wins.
1st place Barcelona got a 40th minute goal from Samuel Eto'o to beat Valladolid to maintain
their 6-point lead over Real Madrid.
It's Quarter Final time and you know what that means folks... over the next two weeks, somebody
gonna get a-hurt real bad! Well not like Santi Cazorla's broken ankle hurt but more like a bruised
ego or battered feelings... like the time I was caught with my pants around my ankles at the school
dance and everyone was staring, pointing and laughing.

Spain meets the US in the first semi-final and Altidore as the first American transplant in the
Liga is in the media spotlight. He also became the most expensive MLS signing in history as
Villareal paid 8 million euros. But these aspects pale in comparison to the fascination with his
physicality.
El Pais comments on the contour of his neck as being more reminiscent of a NFL player.
Emilio Butragueno and the legendary 80's teams that relied on homegrown talent
Sergio Ramos and Iker Casillas might be excused if they feel a bit lonely nowadays when the
national squad visits other countries. They are the only Real representation that the Spanish
national team can count on to make regular appearances.
By 1970's GoonerEuropean champions Spain secured their place at next year's World Cup finals with
an easy 3-0 win over Estonia thanks to goals from Cesc Fabregas, Santi Cazorla and Juan Manuel
Mata.Bosnia-Herzegovina was held by Turkey earlier in the evening so Spain knew a victory over
Estonia would be enough to guarantee themselves top spot in Group Five.

- It's a week to Promise and Deliver! Luis Fabiano, Fabregas and Nilmar
expressed their desire to score and promptly delivered. The Arsenal midfielder opened the scoring
for La Furia Roja last night, helping Spain to a 3-0 win over Estonia.
On a night when European Champions Spain and England booked their place in next year's; Argentina
added more worries to their cause by losing against Paraguay. A well below par Argentina went down
to a solitary goal against Paraguay; this victory sealed Paraguay's place in South Africa.
Argentina lies in fifth place with 22 points.
