SEATTLE - Stuart Holden struck for one of two first-half goals to help lead the United States to
a 4-0 win against Grenada on Saturday in both team's CONCACAF Group B opener in front of 15,387
fans at Qwest Field Saturday.
Freddy Adu, Robbie Rogers and Charlie Davies also scored for the Americans, who moved ahead of
Honduras on goal difference after the opening day of group play.
So in these last two World Cup qualifiers, USMNT fans were raving about Conor Casey (Saturday) and
Jonathan Bornstein (Wednesday)?
Yeesh. Quite the odd couple.
And I'm not sure hero is the right word? The 2-2 draw arguably didn't mean much, but winning the
group is cool. Though it would have been nice to beat Costa Rica as a tribute to Charlie Davies,
not scramble to salvage a point at home.
Before I delve into my analysis of the US Men's National Team's win over El Salvador in last
Saturday's World Cup Qualifier, let me first address an issue that annoyed me throughout the game.
No, I am not talking about John Harkes' color commentary. I am talking about the fact that 70% of
the fans at Rio Tinto Stadium in freaking Utah were rooting for the Yanks' opponents.

The U.S. men's national team beat Honduras just two weeks ago in Gold Cup group play, but it
will be much more difficult this time around.
Arnaud and Conrad will be joining the U.S. National Team for the upcoming Gold Cup.
Reports from Honduras have told us that Espinoza will be on Los Catrachos' Gold Cup team. Today,
U.S. Soccer announced that teammates Davy Arnaud and Jimmy Conrad will be joining Espinoza in the
competition (and the same group).
The biggest national team tournament in the CONCACAF region is here. The 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup
will spread across the US with 13 cities hosting matches. It will all culminate with the final on
July 26 in Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Let's now focus our attention to Group B.
It has been a long time since I did an episode of the "Know Your US MNT Opponent" series, so I
thought to myelf, "why not bring it back for the big match with Honduras tomorrow?" HON deserves
the recognition because they are a strong side especially considering the fact that the nation's
total population doesn't exceed that of New York City.
...unless of course the U.S. win the game.
As we all know by now, the U.S. Men's National Team has never won at Mexico City's Estadio
Azteca, a 19-game streak that dates back to the stadium's opening in 1966. It may not happen on
attempt number 20, either. It may never happen. The task of winning at Azteca is Herculean, for
reasons outlined by former USMNT head coach Bruce Arena (whose teams lost both their games at the
Mexico City grounds).
Saturday night's unimpressive victory over El Salvador might have given the U.S. Men's National
Team three vital points, but a World Cup spot is by no means assured. Bob Bradley's team will
likely need to win two of its last three games to book its trip to South Africa. With the easiest
of the three games, at Trinidad and Tobago, on the docket for Wednesday night, a victory is needed
right away.

Wednesday night, the two powers in Group B met in Washington, DC. Though both the United States and
Honduras were fielding "B" squads for this year's edition of the Gold Cup, the atmosphere was still
electric at RFK Stadium. As expected, there were many Hondurans in attendance, waving their flags
and roaring every time Los Catrachos made their way into the attacking third.
A well organized week of group stage matches have ended and now the real drama begins as 8 teams
remain alive in their quest to be CONCACAF's best. The Gold Cup is down to the quarterfinals.
On Saturday, in Philadelphia's Lincoln Financial Field, Canada will face Honduras:
VS.
The U.S. men's national team will take on Honduras for the third time in less than two months
tonight in the CONCACAF Gold Cup semifinals at Soldier Field in Chicago.
The Americans have beaten the 'Catrachos' in the previous two meetings, once in World Cup
qualifying, and once in the Gold Cup Group Stage.
Round 6 of CONCACAF 2010 World Cup Qualifying is fast approaching with three intriguing
fixtures, including the highly-anticipated United States v. Mexico.
Honduras v. Costa Rica
Squad News: Costa Rica will be returning a majority of the Gold Cup squad that
lost to Mexico on penalties in the semi-finals, including midfielder Celso Borges and captain
Walter Centeno.
It's too bad for us footie fans that Honduras waited until the last 10 minutes of the match to
modify its 8-1-1 formation. They might have pulled out a win at the Azteca tonight. After a days of
"we're playing for the win" rhetoric from coaches and players, Honduras looked like a timid third
world minnow desperate in their attempt to leave hallowed ground with one golden point.

MIAMI- The U.S. men's national team reconvened on Monday under the hot South
Florida sun, and while only thirteen players were in camp, the team is already starting to focus on
the tests that lie ahead: Potential World Cup berth clinching-qualifiers against Honduras and Costa
Rica.
punto.

As they say, honesty is the best policy. So with that in mind, folks, I don't have all that much to
offer ahead of Wednesday night's U.S./Honduras CONCACAF Gold Cup group match. If you want to take
the approach that the boys from Tegucigalpa mount the biggest test in this miserably weak group for
the U.
The USA Men's "Road to the Subs Bench 2010 Tour" played Honduras last night with Bob "I'm
Going to the World Cup So Suck It" Bradley firmly in command.
Los Catrachos are, of course, a credible side and promised to give the US a better idea of how our
guys stack up than did Grenada.
decir Costa Rica vs México y Estados Unidos vs
Honduras.

We are a day away from the U.S. national team's Gold Cup semifinal against Honduras and if
you're feeling a bit concerned about the U.
The United States national team will be looking to win its third consecutive CONCACAF Gold Cup this
Sunday at Giants Stadium. The Yanks advanced to the final by beating Honduras for the third time in
a little under two months and the second time in this tournament. Bob Bradley and company will be
taking on Mexico, who defeated Costa Rica in the second semifinal at Soldier Field.

MIAMI- When the U.S. national team started practice on Wednesday, there was a
familiar face back in practice. The face was that of Frankie Hejduk.
Hejduk made his return to a U.S. national team camp after a five month hiatus due to various
injuries.
We got another edition of Mad About Futbol's Top 5. This time we're going to breakdown the 5 best
national team coaches right now. These 5 men have led their charges to surprise heights in
qualifying for the 2010 World Cup or in some cases right on the door step of reserving their place
in South Africa.
Honduras is a free republic in Central America. Hondurans are a crafty, productive people with a
rich history. The Mayans first settled in the region, Chris Columbus (the explorer, not the
director) set foot on its shores, and Spain controlled the country for much of its existence. The
tiny nation also once fought a "Football War" with El Salvador.
Well, the Yanks have officially booked their tickets to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa after
beating Honduras in a 3-2 thriller. I missed the game because (a) I was at a wedding, and (b) it
wasn't on TV anyway. So, let me say up front that I still feel like I can't really give you any
real insight into the outcome.
Two of the three Wizards representatives at the CONCACAF Gold Cup appeared in their teams' first
game tonight. Roger Espinoza started for Honduras in the first game of the night against Caribbean
side, Haiti. Espinoza played 68 minutes before being subbed out as Los Catrachos won 1-0. Davy
Arnaud also appeared tonight, in the late game, as the USA took care of business 4-0 against
Grenada.

Wizards midfielder, Roger Espinoza was the only Wizards player that dressed tonight for his
national team as Espinoza's Honduran side played the United States. Espinoza once again started for
Los Catrachos tonight, playing 70 minutes before being subbed out in the USA's 2-0 win. US Wizards'
players, Jimmy Conrad and Davy Arnaud did not dress for the game.
Below is a preview of the US-Haiti match tomorrow in the CONCACAF Gold Cup, which comes from Graig
Carbino of USSoccerPlayers Newsletter.
The United States National Team takes on Haiti at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, MA on
Saturday evening in each squad's final Group B match of Gold Cup 2009.
(yes, we are borderline obnoxious with alliteration...)
The United States has reached the semifinals of the second consecutive major international
tournament (remember that Spain game in South Africa?), and the Official U.S. Soccer Bars are ready
to host you for a Thursday matinee. The two-time defending champions take on Honduras - again -
with a spot in the championship match of the Gold Cup on the line.
For the second time this summer the U.S. Men's National Team will be playing in a cup final. Goals
from Clarence Goodson (his first for the national team) and Kenny Cooper (his second in as many
games) paced the U.S. to a 2-0 victory against Honduras. Goodson's goal came in first half stoppage
time, after he powered in a close range header from a Stuart Holden corner kick.
Carlos Costly proves his last name right against the Ticos
With Honduras thrashing the Ticos, 4-0, Los Catrachos move ahead of the US on goal difference.
The Ticos retain the top spot with 12 points. Mexico find themselves in fourth place.
The Ticos are looking a bit vulnerable here and will be looking to regroup in San Jose for a
huge encounter against Mexico next month.
