So in these last two World Cup qualifiers, USMNT fans were raving about Conor Casey (Saturday) and
Jonathan Bornstein (Wednesday)?
Yeesh. Quite the odd couple.
And I'm not sure hero is the right word? The 2-2 draw arguably didn't mean much, but winning the
group is cool. Though it would have been nice to beat Costa Rica as a tribute to Charlie Davies,
not scramble to salvage a point at home.

Well, the Yanks have officially booked their tickets to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa after
beating Honduras in a 3-2 thriller. I missed the game because (a) I was at a wedding, and (b) it
wasn't on TV anyway. So, let me say up front that I still feel like I can't really give you any
real insight into the outcome.

Estadio Olimpico Metropolitano has been a bastion for the Catrachos
If representation in the world leagues were a criterion for winning, the Hondurans would be a
strong match for the US. Unlike Jozy Altidore, Jonathan Spector, and Oguchi Onyewu, these players
also get to make the starting squad.

The U.S. men's national team has played Honduras three times this year, but none of the previous
meetings will be as tough for the Americans as the fourth meeting, this Saturday in San Pedro
Sula.
It won't just be the toughest because it is in Honduras, but because Honduras will be featuring
a strong side than any the Americans have faced this year.

Honduras is a free republic in Central America. Hondurans are a crafty, productive people with a
rich history. The Mayans first settled in the region, Chris Columbus (the explorer, not the
director) set foot on its shores, and Spain controlled the country for much of its existence. The
tiny nation also once fought a "Football War" with El Salvador.

dicen, sino bueno a secas.

It's too bad for us footie fans that Honduras waited until the last 10 minutes of the match to
modify its 8-1-1 formation. They might have pulled out a win at the Azteca tonight. After a days of
"we're playing for the win" rhetoric from coaches and players, Honduras looked like a timid third
world minnow desperate in their attempt to leave hallowed ground with one golden point.

Saturday night's unimpressive victory over El Salvador might have given the U.S. Men's National
Team three vital points, but a World Cup spot is by no means assured. Bob Bradley's team will
likely need to win two of its last three games to book its trip to South Africa. With the easiest
of the three games, at Trinidad and Tobago, on the docket for Wednesday night, a victory is needed
right away.

Before I delve into my analysis of the US Men's National Team's win over El Salvador in last
Saturday's World Cup Qualifier, let me first address an issue that annoyed me throughout the game.
No, I am not talking about John Harkes' color commentary. I am talking about the fact that 70% of
the fans at Rio Tinto Stadium in freaking Utah were rooting for the Yanks' opponents.

Carlos Costly proves his last name right against the Ticos
With Honduras thrashing the Ticos, 4-0, Los Catrachos move ahead of the US on goal difference.
The Ticos retain the top spot with 12 points. Mexico find themselves in fourth place.
The Ticos are looking a bit vulnerable here and will be looking to regroup in San Jose for a
huge encounter against Mexico next month.

...unless of course the U.S. win the game.
As we all know by now, the U.S. Men's National Team has never won at Mexico City's Estadio
Azteca, a 19-game streak that dates back to the stadium's opening in 1966. It may not happen on
attempt number 20, either. It may never happen. The task of winning at Azteca is Herculean, for
reasons outlined by former USMNT head coach Bruce Arena (whose teams lost both their games at the
Mexico City grounds).

For the second time this summer the U.S. Men's National Team will be playing in a cup final. Goals
