So the weekend that was originally supposed to be suspended because of the strike was played and
it was a pretty good weekend overall. It's proving to be an even Serie A campaign so far, in fact
it's the first time since the 1971/72 season that no team is unbeaten. Every team has lost at least
once, and every team at least has one point.
It's all over the calcio news this morning, the Italian Footballer's Association has declared
that they will be going on strike on the 5th Giornata of the season, which is scheduled to take
place the weekend of September 26th (and has Roma-Inter on the schedule). The press conference was
held today, and Massimo Oddo was the spokesperson for the Footballer's Association (WHY?
So, the polls are now closed. Let's see what everyone that voted thinks will occur this season
in Serie A. All polls included, there were 2,066 votes cast (including the last poll which wasn't
really relevant to Serie A at all). So, without further adieu, here's what the poll results
show:
Who will win the 2010/2011 Scudetto?
Yes Allegri, just because you have Ibrahimovic, Pato, Ronaldinho, and Robinho doesn't mean it's
going to be easy. Side note- Italian papers must love that Allegri's last name means happy. Oh how
they must enjoy thinking about clever titles of Milan being "poco Allegri" (not happy) or "molto
Allegri" (very happy).
If you loved checking out the Italy Offside every Tuesday last season just to see the Serie A
Goals of the Week post and it's cool logo, fear not, because it's back! There were 38 goals scored
this weekend in Serie A (which is pretty high for Serie A standards) and only 2 teams went
scoreless: Milan and Fiorentina.
AC Milan seemed to have found the right combination in the Champions League against Auxerre. A
simple 2-0 win with Ibrahimovic scoring both goals supposedly solved all the problems around the
rossoneri. But after the match, Ibrahimovic decided to insult Milan legend Arrigo Sacchi, and show
everyone what a difficult character he is to deal with.

Check out Ciro Capuano's goal which puts Catania ahead. Great volley! Milan's attack cranked it
up after that but their finishing let them down. It was left to a suspiciously looking offside goal
by Pippo Inzaghi after Ronaldinho feeds the striker the ball. The Catania players protest but to no
avail.
While the Serie A looks to return to normality with Inter Milan near the top, Spain's La Liga is
looking competitive, and in the EPL Chelsea is running away four points ahead of second-placed
Arsenal. The Bundesliga looks very interesting with Bayern Munich ninth, seven points behind first
placed Mainz 05, and the Ligue 1 looks very complicated with plenty of teams fighting for the
title.
Samuel Eto'o scored twice as reigning champions Inter Milan came from behind to beat Palermo 2-1 in
Serie A. Newly-promoted Cesena were 1-0 winners at home to Lecce, thanks to Erjon Bogdani's goal.
Juventus eased their early-season worries with a 4-0 victory over an Udinese side who slumped to a
third successive league defeat.
Another great weekend of Serie A, with lots of interesting results. We're at the third day of
the season, and guess who's on top? Cesena. Yes, Cesena. The little Romagnolo side is on top with
Inter with 7 points, but is ahead because guess what- Cesena hasn't let in a single goal. 40 year
old Francesco Antonioli has still yet to be beaten in 3 games.

There were only 24 goals scored this weekend in Serie A, which is much less than the 38 scored
the previous weekend. Only one game was 0-0 (Bari-Cagliari), but most of the other games were
low-scoring. The highest scoring games were Roma-Bologna (2-2) and Udinese-Juve (0-4) with 4 goals
apiece.
Diego Milito ended his goal scoring slump by scoring two goals and Samel Eto'o converted two
penalties as Inter cruised to a 4-0 win over Bari. Inter move to the top of the table with Verona,
Brescia, and Catania providing the surprises in the first four spots.
The first midweek round of Serie A has been played, which makes the programming schedule a
little bit different, meaning here's another post from the "Weekend that was" series, except this
one is "weekday that was". Serie A giants Brescia and Chievo are fulfilling their Scudetto
ambitions and have a near perfect start with 9 points each, while minnows like Milan, Fiorentina,
Roma, and Juventus are all struggling.
The serie A seasons fully in motion now as the games start to come thick and fast. A chaotic
midweek round has left the table almost upside down, with the likes of Chievo Brescia and Catania
in the Champions League places and Serie A contenders Roma Juventus Palermo and Fiorentina
languishing at the bottom!
