The new season saw one of the biggest Italian clubs left without a manager already after first
two rounds. Luciano Spalletti obviously had enough after his team was demolished in the derby
against Juventus and right after the game he resigned from the post of Roma boss. New coach on Roma
bench, Claudio Ranieri stated on his presentation that he will try to shake things up, so his team
could contend for the title this season.
After 3 giornate, only 3 clubs are still at full points: Sampdoria, who defeated Atalanta 1-0 in
Bergamo with a goal from Daniele Mannini; Juventus, who saw Lazio off with a 2-0 win thanks to
Martin Caceres and David Trezeguet; and Genoa, who thumped Napoli 4-1 with Sergio Floccari,
Giandomenico Mesto, Hernan Crespo, and Houssine Kharja all scoring their first goals of the
season.
It was a weekend of some nice goals. First, let's just say that Fabio Quagliarella ALMOST scored
the goal of the season (he did however score 2 goals on the night). You can watch that video here.
Diego scored his first goals in Serie A, Julio Cruz scored his first goals for Lazio, Alberto
Paloschi continues to look more and more like the new Pippo Inzaghi, Giampaolo Pazzini continues to
score, and Antonio Cassano worked some magic again.
Catania general manager, Pietro Lo Monaco, claims that Sir Alex Ferguson is interested in their
21-year-old striker, Takayuki Morimoto. Catania are a small club in Italy, finishing sixth from
bottom in Serie A last season, which leads Lo Monaco to believe they have no chance of holding on
to the young star.

(highlights di Udinese-Catania)
Some nice goals this week. We're still very early into the season, but two possible goal of the
year candidates were scored this weekend. Samuel Eto'o's strike vs. Parma and
Giandomenico Mesto's screamer vs. Napoli are joys to behold. Goals of the week
after the jump.
After reports that Ronaldinho may be retiring, Milan needed a
convincing victory against Bologna while Juventus and Inter wished to continue their good starts to
the season.
So here are the results and to be honest, no great surprises in what occurred.
Napoli 0-0 Udinese
Juventus 2-0 Livorno
Catania 1-1 Lazio
Milan 1-0 Bologna
Sampdoria 4-1 Siena
Cagliari 1-2 Inter Milan
Parma 1-0 Palermo
Bari 4-1 Atalanta
Chievo 3-1 Genoa
Roma 3-1 Fiorentina
A good away victory for Inter sees them enter the top three for the first time this season.

Three games in and it's time to take a look at what's happening in Serie A, by most pundits
reckoning the third strongest league in Europe behind the Premier League and la Liga.
For those who spent Saturday and Sunday away from the television and internet, or were too busy
watching the Manchester Derby, here are some lessons we have learned (or in some cases relearned)
from this past weekend's Serie A action:
Gianluigi Buffon is the key for a Juve scudetto: Although he has some
mileage between his numerous Serie A and international matches, and the Juventus attack is
quite good, the 2-0 Juventus win over Livorno shows that Buffon still dominates matches
for his team.

I always like to watch videos of bloopers, and this time I've found a Serie A blooper video from
the early 2000's. Always entertaining, and it includes a mistake from Buffon!! (how often do you
see those?)
Video after the jump.
And since we're on the topic of Buffon mistakes, here's another one I remember from a couple of
years ago:

Lots of goals scored this week, with only one 0-0 draw (Napoli-Udinese) and many teams scoring
3+ goals. There were some nice ones this week. Goals after the jump.
Emanuel Rivas vs. Atalanta - The Bari midfielder scores a nice opening goal. Dribbles to the
center and unleashes a laser strike from around 20 yards out.

Sampdoria are top of the table alone for the first time in 18 years. A week ago I wrote an
article saying that Sampdoria could be the surprise of the season, and right now that hypothesis is
still holding up. While it's almost impossible for them to win the scudetto and considering the
fact that Gigi Del Neri's teams usually suffer a drop in form after the winter break, they should
be challenging for a spot in Europe next season, whether that be Europa League or Champions League
that remains to be seen.
After midweek fixtures in Italy as well as this weekend's results, all of the Serie A
clubs have played two more games and we are left with surprise leaders of Serie A.
Midweek results:
Palermo 3-3 Roma
Lazio 1-2 Parma
Udinese 1-0 Milan
Siena 0-0 Chievo
Fiorentina 2-0 Sampdoria
Bari 0-1 Cagliari
Bologna 2-0 Livorno
Atalanta 0-0 Catania
Inter Milan 3-1 Napoli
Genoa 2-2 Juventus
A late equaliser from Totti saved Roma a point at the Renzo Barbera while the dark days at AC
Milan appear to be getting ever darker as they slumped to a 1-0 defeat to Udinese.
I'm just going to throw it out there: this might be the worst goals of the week post of all
time. Nothing spectacular at all this weekend, most goals were very plain and ordinary. Of the 18
goals scored this weekend, about 3 are top goal worthy. But let's see this week's goals of the week
(hoping that Giornata 7 brings us better ones):
Massimo Maccarone vs.
