Inter Milan coach Jose Mourinho wants to leave a controversial week behind him and guide his team
to victory at home against Lazio this weekend. Elsewhere, Juventus coach Ciro Ferrara will be under
enormous pressure to take a positive result at home against rock-bottom Catania on Sunday.
This weekend the unexpected happened: Klaas-Jan Huntelaar scored a goal. But
not just one goal, two goals in the space of one minute. Whoever had bets that he wouldn't score
until 2010 lost this weekend. The second was a real beauty too. Cagliari's excellent form at the
moment can be attributed to their strike partnership of Nene and
Alessandro Matri, both at 6 goals.

Roma got the better of local rivals Lazio, Fiorentina closed on the UEFA Champions League places as
Siena secured victory over fellow Serie A strugglers Catania.
While every December an elite list of players hope to win the Balon d'Or (Golden Ball), another
list of elite players are hoping not to win the Bidone d'Oro (Golden Trash Can). Past winners
include Rivaldo, Adriano (twice!), Christian Vieri, Nicola Legrottaglie, and last year's winner
Ricardo Quaresma.
Milan's summer signing finally got off the mark against Catania but he has a long way to go to
silence the critics.

Two unlikely heroes emerged out of the two big games this weekend, Juventus-Inter and
Roma-Lazio. In the first game on Saturday, Claudio Marchisio was the game-winner,
using an excellent display of technique to control a ball in tight space and chip Julio Cesar to
score Juventus' second goal.

Antonio Di Natale scored again, so he still tops the top scorer chart with 11
goals, 2 away from Francesco Totti and Diego Milito. He's given
them a chance to catch up however, as he has been suspended for the next 2 games.

Alessandro Matri scored his 8th goal of the season and it was his 7th consecutive
game with a goal, tying the great Gigi Riva's record from the 1971-72 season. Diego
Milito took advantage of Di Natale's suspension to increase his tally to 10 goals, 1 short
of Di Natale's 11, which allows him to continue to lead the scoring charts.

eight-point lead at the Serie A summit.
Elsewhere, Juventus suffered a shock home defeat at the hands of Catania, Roma climbed above
Parma and Livorno triumphed against Sampdoria.

They've lost three matches in a row, including their last to relegation-bound Catania, their
fans are protesting, calling for club leaders to resign and throwing rotten eggs at the team bus,
and perhaps worst of all, their posters can't even stay up on the wall. This club is literally
falling apart.
The under-fire coach has vowed to fight on despite the 2-1 home defeat to Catania – Juve's fifth
loss in six matches.

Christmas time is here, which means Serie A goes on it's winter break, players go on vacation,
transfer rumors start to heat up because of the forthcoming transfer window, and daily news runs a
little thin. So I've decided to make a Serie A Christmas list, a list of what players, managers,
and teams are asking ol' St.
The Italian Serie A has reached its winter break with Inter Milan (Internazionale) on pace for
their fifth straight league title. AC Milan and Juventus are still within reach but will have to
overcome a significant gap (8 & 9 points). On the other end of the table its extremely close with 7
teams within 6 points of each other.
So I'll be away until January 4th, so no new posts until then, but I've left something to keep
you busy with until I get back. I came across these videos on youtube that show all the highlights
of Serie A over the past decade. They are split into 10 volumes, all showing a different thing like
"The best free kicks", "The best back-heel goals", "The best
celebrations", etc.
