Serie A teams, get your shopping bags ready! The mid-season transfer window officially opened last
week (January 1st), and will remain open until January 31st 19:00 CET. It is a busy time for
Italian clubs, who on top of getting ready for the return of Serie A next week-end, have their
scouts/negotiatiors/investors working full time [.
Catania are fighting against relegation in the Italian Serie A this season and are desperate to
hold onto the one huge hope that they have in Peruvian defender Juan Manuel Vargas. Although the
Italian minnows have confirmed that Vargas wouldn't be leaving the side this January, Goal.com
reports that the 23-year old is up for [.
Since we don't have a Catania blogger, there's not as much talk around here about their Peruvian
beast, Juan Manuel Vargas as there probably should be. RomaChris and I both pimp
him whenever we get the opportunity, but when you play for a small club and for a decidedly
non-glamorous national team, it's hard to get much attention.
God damn, but Sven Goran Eriksson really, really wants
Mancini. I still don't get it, but he's not backing off that insane rumor of a
couple days ago, which suggested he'd be willing to package Rolando Bianchi and a
mint in exchange for the Brazilian's services.
How long has it been since the last match? A month? Six weeks? Longer? Normalcy is finally
returning the weekend, and we'll no longer have to find ways to entertain ourselves like normal
people rather than watching football on TV.
Whether we like it or not, the match even people who rarely bother with Serie A will be watching
is the Milan-Napoli clash at the San Siro.
Del Piero to the rescue, once again. Il capitano bianconero was the lone Juve scorer in tonight's
away game vs. Catania, a match which, had it been won by the Etnei (as the Sicilian team are called
back in the old boot), certainly couldn't have been called a steal. You can say what you want [...]
An absolutely heroic performance by Catania tonight cruelly turned out to be not quite enough,
since they were playing Juve and Juve always score right at the death By the same token, though,
Alex Del Piero was fairly heroic himself, and as much as it pains me to type the
words, it was probably right that he dragged hims team into a draw.
Boca Juniors defender Matías Silvestre was sold to Serie A side Catania for an estimated US$3
million. The former Boca defender signed a three-year deal with the Italian side. Silvestre, who
has various titles under his belt during the Alfio Basile era, was not taken into account during
the Miguel Ángel Russo era and the same goes for current coach Carlos Ischia.
