Not an awful lot has happened really. The selección landed in Bogotá on Sunday and Carlos Tevez
gave a press conference alongside Juan Román Riquelme on Monday, in which he stated, among other
things, that 'It will be a very difficult match, as it always is when Argentina visit Colombia in
the qualifiers...
So, it turned out on Sunday that the 18 names Alfio Basile gave us a few weeks ago weren't in fact
the only ones to be included in Argentina's squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against
Chile (in the Monumental) and Ecuador (in Quito). I'd like to emphasise that there was no hint of

Alfio Basile has named his squad for Argentina's opening two World Cup 2010 qualifiers, at home to
Chile and away to Venezuela on the 13th and 16th of October. Juan Román Riquelme, despite being
stuck in limbo after failing to find his way to another club before the European transfer window
closed, is included, and [...]
Alfio Basile has named the five domestic-based players who are called up to the Argentina squad for
the two upcoming World Cup Qualifiers at home to Bolivia on Saturday and away to Colombia three
days later. The final squad of 22 players will meet for training on Monday morning in Ezeiza, and
will consist of [...]
It's been a mixed pre-Christmas weekend for Argentine footballers in Europe. On the good side, we
had Gabriel Heinze and Fernando Gago included in the Real Madrid side who beat Barcelona 1-0 in the
Camp Nou, and the irony of two ex-River Plate players, Julio Cruz and Esteban Cambiasso, scoring to
down the side who [.
It began with a bang, back in 2004. When Carlos Tevez moved from Boca Juniors to Corinthians for a
Brazilian-record $18m, their new owner MSI's frontman Kia Joorabchian promised it hailed a new era
for the club and even for Brazilian football as a whole. "Our plan is to build Corinthians into a
team of galácticos," [.
Jaime Moreno is now the all-time leading goals scorer in the MLS. The 33-year-old DC United forward
scored his 109th netter last night in his club's win over the New York Red Bulls. As many goals as
his age, 33, have been from the spot.

A Palestinian football club, who was scheduled to play friendlies against Chester City and the
Blackburn Rovers, was denied entry into England by British Authorities.
Some might think it would be hasty to make such an assessment so early into the season (after all,
European leagues have only begun for a month or two) but it is interesting nonetheless to have a
preliminary look at how some of this Summer's signings are performing. Indeed, some managers (such
as Sir Alex [...]
One let-down on a weekend of generally good displays by Argentines in Europe, this one. On
Saturday, Carlos Tevez didn't have the best of days for Manchester United, who went down 1-0 at the
Reebok Stadium to Bolton Wanderers. Tevez having only got off the plane back from Buenos Aires the
day before the match was rushed into [.
That has been a strong rumor for the past 3 days and several sites are now reporting that Carlos
Tevez has indeed signed a deal with Man Utd, the transfer fee is estimated to be £20 million which
is an enormous sum and has propelled Utd as the busiest club and most money spend in the transfer
market this pre-season with a total of £70 million spent.
Our friends over at Subside Sports have been lightening quick in getting the new Carlos Tevez shirt
ready for us. Thanks Simon. It's bloody expensive to be honest (almost £58 with the P/L Champions
sleeve patches) but it fkn Tevez, dammit. I'm still a bit numb after thinking about the havoc the
Tevez-Rooney-Ronaldo-Anderson-Nani axis could [...]

No disrespect to Africa, Asia, and North America, but the two best footballing continents are
easily Europe and South America. The real question is, if you were to take the best players from
those two places, who would win? First, which players to use would need to be decided.
The South America side would be much easier to choose than Europe only because most of the players
would come from either Argentina or Brazil.
Argentina make their debut in the 2010 World Cup campaign tonight, with everything prepared to be
the main focus for the start of a ball-obsessed weekend for the nation's sport fans. On Sunday, the
national rugby side will play the biggest match in their history when they take on South Africa in
the Rugby World [...]
With the top three tiers in Argentine football having broken up for the summer (speaking of which
the lower division results service will make a belated return tomorrow for Primeras C and D), the
main focus for Argentine fans this weekend was on their Europe-based players. In England, Carlos
Tevez and Javier Mascherano found themselves [.
The English newspapers are reporting that Carlos Tevez is poised to become Manchester United's
latest signing as early as next week. If the deal goes through, the implications for the Old
Trafford club would be enormous.
First, United will have managed to secure the biggest transfer target of the summer in Europe away
from the grasps of Real Madrid, Chelsea and Liverpool.
After weeks of nothing, Rafa Benitez has finally gone out and spent some money (he's also grown a
dodgy goatee, but we won't dwell on that), dropping £26.5 million on Fernando Torres.
That's a lot of money, but Torres has been one of the most highly rated strikers in Europe over the
past few years. He's quick, strong and skillful -- not to mention passionate about the team and a
hard worker, which is why Rafa bought him instead of, say, Thierry Henry.
By 1970's Gooner The bookies, as to be expected, have installed Man Utd as favourites to win the
title again followed closely by Chelsea. Liverpool are priced at about half of Arsenal's odds and
the rest, especially Spurs, are really nowhere. These are prices quoted at the time of writing this
post. Man Utd 7/5 Expect.com Chelsea 15/8 Better Liverpool 6/1
I'm watching this match for pure pleasure, but I thought I'd post a few observations just for the
hell of it. First off, I'm not sure if Man City is just that much better or Man U is not as good as
they were last year. Certainly Scholes and Giggs have not been as good in this match nor the season
so far. Giggs has been a ghost in this match so far and Scholes just doesn't seem with it.
It's perhaps not quite right to refer to Australia as 'Down Under' on this site, being as how
Buenos Aires is actually further south than Sydney, but nearly all the players named in Alfio
Basile's squad for the 11th September friendly against the Socceroos will have to fly in from
Europe, and the remaining one [...]
Anytime two of England's biggest clubs face off, it makes for a must-see occasion. But, today's
match at Anfield between north-west rivals Liverpool and Manchester United isn't the only big
ticket in England this weekend, as on Sunday, London rivals Arsenal and Chelsea battle it out at
the Emirates Stadium.
It was a good game at Anfield and i'm glad Man Utd came out winners with a Tevez goal settling
the game, my man of the match has to be Anderson, in the past i have criticised him but with every
game he gets under his belt he is proving to be a valued member of the team, his tackles and vision
is exceptional, not to mention his superb control of the ball in tight situations, i am truly
impressed and for Sir Alex to place him in the starting 11 and leave Carrick on the bench speaks
volume of what the coach thinks of the player.
I've been reading about developments in this story lately and before today have just rubbished
them, but now it's picking up steam and not looking good for our world class defensive midfielder.
Apparently he is being accused by the Brazilian government of withholding taxable income when he
played for Brazilian Série side, Corinthians. Supposedly they could face up to five years in
prison if they are found guilty of the charges.
Grand Slam Sunday headlined Week 17 of the English Premier League season, with Manchester United
edging Liverpool at Anfield, and Arsenal poking past Chelsea to remain on top of the league table.
But, that wasn't the only action worth watching this past weekend, as there were eight fixtures on
Saturday that preceded Sunday's top-of-the-table [.
- If you missed the Brazil against Uruguay semi-final of Copa America last
night, you could have seen a classic. The entertainment value was extremely high as both teams came
so close to winning the match within regulation. Uruguay continually threatened Brazil and were
unfortunate not to win the match. After ending 2-2 in regulation, the match proceeded to penalties
where Brazil squeezed by with a win.
The long awaited and much anticipated saga of Carlos Tevez move to Manchester United at last was
done when the Red Devils have confirmed Tevez has joined the club on a two year loan, after almost
throughout the summer the deal was negotiated.
In the end, a deal was struck which left everyone more confused of why such arrangement could
not be met much earlier.

hell of it. First off, I'm not sure if Man City is just that much better or Man U is not as good as

Liverpool fans are either cringing in anticipation or eagerly waiting the distraction of their
midweek football forsaken boredom, as a plethora of their club's players take the pitch on
international duty. Two pair of which have the pleasure of facing one another on Wednesday. Why do
I get the feeling we will not see any sort of Rooney-Ronaldo fiasco like we did in the 2006 World
Cup?
The sun shines brightly for the Premier League right now. The new season has kicked off without the
plague of TV problems that La Liga has encountered. The play on the pitch, so far, has been
exciting and much better than the slump we saw last Fall. The only negatives thus far have been the
controversial refereeing decisions with teams like Fulham, Liverpool and Chelsea -- to name but a
few -- having key decisions going against them.
Not a bad day for Argentines in Europe on Wednesday. Lionel Messi scored for Barcelona, obviously,
but he wasn't alone - Carlos Tevez opened his Champions League account for Manchester United - his
first goal in continental competition since the first leg of the 2006 Copa Libertadores second
round tie with Corinthians, against River. And [...]
Before Tottenham Hotspur star Dimitar Berbatov began to sing Juande Ramos' praises, the speculation
surrounding whether he would stay or go swirled with rumor, one of which was that Manchester United
were top of Berbatov's January transfer window wish list. It's no contest that this season
Manchester United is performing much stronger than Tottenham, and [.
It's done. Manchester United officially have Tevez. Tevez can now play for Manchester United
against Reading, but apparently Fergie's already said today that he will not use Tevez in
Manchester United's season opener. Now, what are the chances of Tevez coming off the bench against
Reading? I doubt it, but Manchester United play 5 games in [...]

Manchester United's poor start to the season has fooled many critics and fans who felt they would
storm out of the gates especially with the signing of Carlos Tevez who was so electrifying during
this summer's Copa America.
If you think back to one year ago (August 2006), many critics (myself included) predicted Man
United would have a bumpy start to the season especially after Ruud van Nistelrooy exited the club
and United made no new signings worth mentioning.
Independiente lost their 100% record in midweek to Boca, and on Saturday night it got worse as they
travelled to La Plata and lost 1-0 to Gimnasia. Roberto Salvatierra scored the only goal of the
game four minutes after half-time - the first time this season that Germán Denis has failed to
score. There was [...]
If there's one match that I wouldn't even dream about wagering on this weekend, it's without a
doubt the Blues trip to Old Trafford on Sunday. There are just too many factors to ponder, too many
elements to consider, and ultimately, history teaches us nothing about what kind of match, nor
performance from either side, we should expect.
Taking Manchester United at home in the past is usually a safe bet, but they've been wholly
unimpressive there so far this season.
Contrasting Fridays for Daniel Passarella at River Plate, and for the players who've succeeded him
and the generation of '78 in the national team. The selección were given a free morning before
tomorrow's World Cup qualifying opener against Chile, but Passarella might not be so relaxed after
comments from River's president...
The champions went briefly back to the top of the Premier League table courtesy of the only goal of
the game scored on the stroke of half-time when a clever first-half Ryan Giggs corner in front of
the Anfield Kop found the feet of Wayne Rooney, who was left totally unmarked on the edge of the
Liverpool penalty area, the United striker's first time low drive was converted by Carlos Tevez who
cleverly flicked the ball passed Pepe Reina who had no time to react.
Carlos Alberto Tévez (born 5 February 1984 in Ciudadela, Buenos Aires Province) is an Argentine
footballer who made his name with Argentine giants Boca Juniors, Corinthians in Brazil and later in
England with West Ham United. He is currently playing for Manchester United, on a two-year loan
from Media Sports Investments.
Towards the end of 2006, certain pundits and magazines were proclaiming the birth of Sir Alex
Ferguson's third (for some, fourth) great team stemming from his 20-year tenure at Manchester
United. The team were wreaking havoc within the Premiership, and everyone with an opinion was quick
to acclaim this as the next chapter in the [.
