After winning all four MLS contests in July, August has gotten off to a rough start for D.C. United.

If back-to-back road losses to the Houston Dynamo and Real Salt Lake weren't enough, it was announced Wednesday that MLS had handed down a two-game suspension and a fine of an undisclosed amount to forward Eddie Johnson for violent conduct towardsReal Salt Lake defender Carlos Salcedo in the 30th minute of D.

As well all expected, MLS has suspended Eddie Johnson for two matches.

Ben Olsen expected, we expected it, and I assume that Eddie Johnson must have expected it too. However, MLS today officially announced that Eddie Johnson has been suspended for two league games for kicking the ball at Carlos Salcedo, who was on the ground at the time (Violent conduct now carries an automatic two game suspension).

I have bene fortunate enough to meet many of the top players and coaches in Major League Soccer. The nicest person I have met is D.C. United's Ben Olsen. He has endured three really tough seasons in charge of D.C. United, but he wakes up this morning as US Open Cup champion.

Real Salt Lake were heavily favored to win the 100th US Open Cup in their fortress at Rio Tinto Stadium, but Lewis Neal's 45th-minute strike was enough to seal victory and send United into the 2013-14 CONCACAF Champions League

Real Salt Lake fans will be wondering how they lost this game.
