Carlos Ruiz has a fractured ankle that may require surgery, according to reports out of Mexico.
The former Philadelphia Union striker's prognosis is about four weeks, per a website that follows
the trials and tribulations of Guatemalan National Team players.
Ruiz was set to join Guatemala in 2014 World Cup Qualifying play, as it begins its push to make
a World Cup for the first time ever.
As we enter the second to last month of the MLS regular season, I would like to make a few
observations. The Union's once secure hold on a playoff spot has become tenuous as of late. Despite
the roster changes over the course of the season, many of the same problems that were apparent in
May are still rearing their ugly heads:

Tonight the New England Revolution will get set to take on the Philadelphia Union at PPL Park in
Chester, Pennsylvania. The Revs are coming off a 17-day break following the postponement of this
fixture due to Hurricane Irene two weekends past, while the Union are coming off back-to-back
league losses to Salt Lake and Columbus.

good news about his cracked ankle, informing the Guatemalan that he does not need surgery.
Reports out of Mexico originally stated that the 31-year-old would most likely be looking at
surgery and a time table that involved a four week return to soccer at the earliest.

offense.
When the Philadelphia Union and DC United last met on July 2, the Union were 7–4–5 with 26
points and in first place in the Eastern Conference. Danny Mwanga had scored his fifth goal of the
season the previous weekend in a come-from-behind win against Chivas USA that also included goals
from Veljko Paunovic and Carlos Ruiz.
