Pitch Invasion proudly welcomes a new contributer today. Mike Gumballhead will comment
philosophically on pressing issues of world football whenever he is gripped by an overwhelming
fever, as he was today by the Galaxy's latest shrewd move towards world domination. It's long been
my suspicion that Alexi Lalas is a genius cunningly disguised as a ginger [.
I must admit despite the speculation I was mildly surprised by the news Carlos Ruiz has returned
to the LA Galaxy. I understand that the Galaxy have Joe Cannon and Clint Mathis both off the books
and that the three "DPs" (David Beckham, Carlos Ruiz and Landon Donovan) only count 400k each
towards the approximately $2.
Well, it seems a few things have happened in the last few days. Guess I should catch up a bit. The
big news, for LA fans, is that Fish will be returning. LA fans are split by this move. They either
love or hate it. I'm in the camp that believes no [...]
Carlos Ruiz on on his way out of FC Dallas and going back to his first MLS team the LA Galaxy.
The Galaxy paid an undisclosed amount of allocation money as well as a 2nd round draft pick to
bring Ruiz back to LA.
The Kansas City Wizards have sent a quality defender, Nick Garcia, to the San Jose Earthquakes
in exchange for the first overall pick in the expansion draft that will take place this Friday.
In recent days, the LA Galaxy have opened up a lot of salary space putting to their plans to land
someone big. Turns out their eyes were on 'little fish' Carlos Ruiz.
FC Dallas has made it official, Ruiz is no long a member of the team. In return for the trade, FCD
got 'an undisclosed amount of Allocation money and LA's natural second round pick in the 2009 MLS
SuperDraft.
(* Assuming I botched the usage, could someone hep me to the proper term for all persons of
Mexican/Mexican-American/Central American descent?) Holy pre-SuperDraft trading, Batman! Between
the one player who we all thought would go (Carlos Ruiz to LA) and two that came out of left field
- Nick Garcia to San Jose for the [.
I got to listen to the Saints game yesterday morning. Unfortunately I didn't listen closely since I
was dealing with work stuff (I was on-call) and then dozed off at some point in the 2nd half. I was
happy that they had won 2-0. But they were at home and Leicester had only won 1 of their previous
10 games.
So Carlos Ruiz got traded to LA today. I know my attitude has always been that Rico Clark should
have kicked him harder as my favorite moment of all of that was when Rico kicked his shoulder and
the Little Fish grabbed his face. (I still maintain that the replays make the kick worse than it
appeared.
The Kansas City Wizards are looking to further rebuild their team beyond today's trade of Nick
Garcia to expansion San Jose Earthquakes for their 1st pick (1st overall in the draft). That gives
KC the 1st pick overall and the 11th overall picks in the draft. The conventional thinking is that
KC is positioning themselves to take promising striker Patrick Nyarko with their new pick.
Tickle Props to Ives for the news that the kids are alright. It'll be interesting to see how the
academy system develops in the States, though of course, it'll only further ghetto-ize soccer in
the eyes of Joe American Sportsfan as being the domain of "Pinko Commie Euro-queers." Pinko Commie
Euro-queers--they were part of the No Wave scene in the early 80's, right?
Seeing Celtic's manager Gordon Strachan saying that he's not planning on making any new player
signings reminded me of skepticism I had over Brad Guzan making a move to a British team before the
winter transfer window closes. He doesn't meet the requirements. And I didn't think it was likely
that a move to a team like Fulham would pass muster even on appeal as they already have 2 excellent
goal keepers in Anti Niemi and Kasey Keller.
Not only am I having serious FC Dallas withdrawals, I don't even have Fox Soccer Channel or
GolTV right now, because of the inability of the Dish Network contractor to attach a dish to my
house. What gives?
