One Fan's Reaction to Watching U.S.-Honduras Eighties-Style

I watch most U.S. national team games cloistered in my own soccer nerdom, hunched over a computer or slouched at a friend's house where I can bitch freely about the team's dry ideas and dire first touch. This is how a lot of us watch games.

2010 WCQ: US Beats HON, Qualifies For World Cup

Soccer Tickets Online 12 October @ 07:00 AM EST

Well, the Yanks have officially booked their tickets to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa after beating Honduras in a 3-2 thriller. I missed the game because (a) I was at a wedding, and (b) it wasn't on TV anyway. So, let me say up front that I still feel like I can't really give you any real insight into the outcome.

U.S./Honduras Redux

That's On Point 11 October @ 01:08 PM EST
So I woke up Sunday morning after this weird dream. Something about the U.S. national team beating Honduras 3-2 mixed with me being chased by Carlo Costly and Carlos Pavon in something straight out of the Michael Jackson 'Thriller' video. Odd. So odd I decided it was worth breaking my 10-month old self-imposed ban from Dunkin' Donuts coffee. Click to continue reading...

The Sweeper: USMNT Qualifies for the World Cup

Pitch Invasion 11 October @ 07:47 AM EST

Big Story

There was something for pretty much everyone yesterday, an all-day footballing extravaganza that began with Germany overcoming her many doubters by beating Hiddink's tactically astute Russia in the Luzhniki Stadium, and ended with the United States overcoming a lethargic start and a forty-seventh minute goal by beating Honduras 3-2 in front of a hostile crowd of forty thousand at the Estadio Olimpico Metropolitano.

What A Way To Win & Qualify For South Africa!

Major League Soccer Talk 11 October @ 03:49 AM EST

This was absolutely a nerve racking second half for the USA and all of us supporters. Who would've thought going down a goal in the 46th minute that the USA would gather their thoughts very quickly and go out on a three goal rampage and especially from Conor Casey by not scoring a goal, but two in a row.

Typical boring CONCACAF. Mexico and US qualify with room to spare, Central American teams fight for the other spots, and some baseball country along to make it a Hex instead of a Pent. We all saw this coming last year. Ho hum.

Honduras 2 U.S. 3

Game story.

Former Galaxy striker Carlos Pavon proved once again why he failed so abysmally in MLS, missing a crucial penalty in the 87th minute for Honduras that sealed the U.S. win. And then he missed another sitter two minutes later.

Still, it looked to me a legitimate Honduras goal was called offside.

Know Your Opponent: Honduras Edition

Soccer Tickets Online 09 October @ 07:00 AM EST

Honduras is a free republic in Central America. Hondurans are a crafty, productive people with a rich history. The Mayans first settled in the region, Chris Columbus (the explorer, not the director) set foot on its shores, and Spain controlled the country for much of its existence. The tiny nation also once fought a "Football War" with El Salvador.
