The Johnstone Paint Trophy began its Round 2 in the Northern and Section section on Tuesday,
October 6, 2009. Most of the home teams advanced with a few exceptions. One match was postponed,
Accrington Stanley v Shrewsbury Town, because of rain and the officials ruling the pitch unfit to
play on.
Here's a list of the results from Tueday's matches.
Carlisle United F.C. are an English football team based in Carlisle, Cumbria. The club currently
play in Football League One after gaining promotion from the Football League Two at the end of the
2005–06 season. As of today, Carlisle United lie in 16th place in the League One table.
Neither promotion nor relegation seem likely [.
The following players have been known to have played abroad during the past 12 months, but have
since disappeared. There are also players I am looking for some further information on, in an
effort to track their careers and ensure whether or not they should be on Les Rosbifs. I would be
extremely grateful for [.

Landon Donovan's proposed loan move to English club Everton is gaining momentum, and it is
starting to look more and more like the U.S. national team's two best players will be club
teammates come the new year.
Everton has now confirmed that it is in talks to bring the U.
CARSON, Calif. (Wednesday, July 8, 2009) – The LA Galaxy today agreed to terms with Trinidad and
Tobago midfielder Chris Birchall. The 25-year-old received his P1 Visa on Monday and will
officially be added to the club's roster upon the receipt of his International Transfer Clearance
(ITC), which cannot happen until the transfer window re-opens on Wednesday, July 15.
The final sweep of Les Rosbifs has led to as few more players leaving the list, the most notable of
whom is Tommy Mooney. The former Watford, Aston Villa, Scarborough, Southend United, Birmingham
City and Walsall (to name many) striker has decided to hang up his boots after an extensive career
spanning the English leagues.
A stack of former Roar names played in the recent Olympic v Brisbane Strikers:
Firstly, Stuart McLaren is retired from playing and now only coaches - BS. Then there was:
Jonti Richter - BS
Seo Hyuk-Su - Oly
Matthew Ham - keeper for Oly
Chay Hews (trial Saturday) - BS
Former Roar's that I don't think were used - Todd Gava and Warren Moon
Oh and is Andrew Oar - Oly - Tommy's brother?
Cheltenham Town FC has been relegated to the fourth tier of the English football league system
after the club's 1-1 draw against Carlisle United at Abby Business Stadium. The club will compete
in Coca-Cola League Two for the 2009-10 season.
Manager Martin Allen noted on the club's website, "I wish season wasn't ending.
You may (or may not) have noticed that the frequency of posting on Les Rosbifs has not been as
frequent over the past few days. This is due to some extensive research into the playing histories
of the members of the list, as well as checking if they are all at the clubs they were [...]
The English Football League Cup or Carling Cup as its known continued its round 2 of matches on
Wednesday August 26, 2009. Most of the Premier League teams advanced including Tottenham and Stoke
City while Wigan fell 1-4 to Blackpool. Here's a recap of Wednesday's matches along with video

The rumors are heating up just as MLSR slowly springs fully back to life after the holidays.

Carlisle United will lose the services of on-loan Coventry City midfielder Chris
Birchall after the 24-year-old opted for a move to America instead.
Oldham Athletic's injury crisis worsened on Good Friday when 7 foot mascot Chaddy the Owl (better
known as 34 year old Wayne Hurst) fell off a BMX bicycle when attempting an ill-advised wheelie
prior to the League One tie with Carlisle United.
Chaddy ruptured ankle ligaments in the, er "accident" but did bravely maintain the mascot's
unwritten rule that "you never remove your head in front of the crowd" by refusing gas and air from
the attending St John's Ambulance staff.
Seeing as how the Ashes have started and England aren't - at the time of writing - being
thrashed seven shades of black and blue by Australia (though there is plenty of time for
that to happen over the next few weeks or so), we thought that now would be an appropriate time to
have a quick look back at the (now dying) breed of sportsman that combined their summer sport with
their winter sport.
Lee Clark, the Huddersfield manager, was Reserve team manager at St James's Park when Krul emerged,
to put in a terrific performance against Palermo in the UEFA Cup three years ago, and kept a clean
sheet. Tim Krul - big chance tonight And Krul was unbeaten last season when Carlisle United won 3-0
at the start of [.
Chelsea
Chelsea spent much of the summer promising a marquee signing, but their inability to deliver one
reflected both Roman Abramovich's reduced largesse and the manner in which Real Madrid have changed
the rules of engagement in the transfer market. Yuri Zhirkov was the club's only significant
signing.
The end of the football season brings out the mathematician in us all. Brighton & Hove Albion
supporters spent most of yesterday morning poring over fixture lists but, behind the permutations
and logarithms, there was a simple equation. Beat Stockport County, and you don't have to do any
sums. Beat Stockport County and you will stay up, regardless of results elsewhere.

From the LA Galaxy front office, the team today agreed to terms with Trinidad and Tobago midfielder
Chris Birchall. The 25-year-old received his P1 Visa on Monday and will officially be added to the
club's roster upon the receipt of his International Transfer Clearance (ITC), which cannot happen
until the transfer window re-opens on Wednesday, July 15.
His name has been up on a locker in the Galaxy dressing room for weeks.
He's given a farewell interview to his local newspaper in England.
And today the Galaxy announced the 25-year-old Trinidad and Tobago midfielder would join the
club effective July 15, the day the transfer window reopens.
You're may be wondering: Where have all those talented Chelsea youngstas buggered off to? Well,
you're in luck.
Here's a roundup of those youths the two youths? that have been shipped out on loan before the
start of the 2009-10 season. Let me know if I missed anyone, people.
Franco Di Santo
Destination: Blackburn
Loan Length: Six months
After a month of speculation, Big Sam finally snapped up young Di Santo on a six-month deal.
It's time for the next of our gargantuan pre-season previews we're off to League Two, where
the Bovril is likely to be scalding hot and the pies may still be frozen in the middle. Perhaps
surprisingly, everybody that finished last season starts this time around, and no-one (at the time
of writing) has been deducted any points yet, either.
Stockport County lost 2-1 to Carlisle United last night at Edgeley Park.County got off to the
brighter start from the off, as the ball was threaded through to Carl Baker who dragged his shot
wide.
County were pressuring Carlisle and it began to show as Tansey intercepted a miss pass and put
Danny Pilkington onto goal who couldn't get the ball out of his feet and fired over into the
Railway Stand.
Carlisle United player-coach Graham Kavanagh has accused referee Darren Deadman of shouting
words of encouragement to Millwall striker Neil Harris during the two sides' 0-0 draw at The Den
last Saturday.
Says Kavanagh:
"It was in the second half of the game, the ball went out to the left and as the Millwall lad
crossed it, I was running back into the box.
Referee Darren Deadman should be, well, a dead man. Especially after Carlisle United player-coach
Graham Kavanagh heard the man in the middle make some disturbing in-game remark.

Millwall lad crossed it, I was running back into the box.

Early January will not come near the top of the list in any ‘best time of the year polls'.
The post-Christmas Blues kick in as the decorations are put away and everyone trudges back to
work, wrapped up against the cold, wind and rain.
But hidden amongst the winter gloom is one of the best and most famous days of the footballing
year – FA Cup Third Round day.
