Several Americans wound up making last-minute moves yesterday all loan deals as the winter
transfer window came to a close. Here's a recap of all the action (and in some cases, lack of
action):
As reported before, Michael Bradley and Freddy Adu both made
moves, which were officially announced yesterday.

In the buildup to tonight's friendly against Chile at the Home Depot Center, Jeffrey Carlisle
described Bob Bradley's as being in "mad scientist" mode. Usually, when Chile is involved, it's
their head coach, Marcelo Bielsa, who is more deserving of that label. Bob Bradley doing anything
"mad" doesn't jibe with the coach we know.

The eyes of the U.S. soccer world will be shining on Seattle this week. You probably already
know that, though. ESPN2 cameras will soon descend upon us. Our supporters will probably start
seeing their names in big-name publications. Stories that many considered similar to family lore
will become national storylines.

teenage soccer player — forgot he owned a Porsche, leaving the luxury car at a train station for

By a nose, Scunthorpe United take this year's Best Fans Award. Last season, the gong went to Pride

US manager Jurgen Klinsmann describes his relationship with assistant Martin Vasquez with Jeff
Carlisle of ESPN.com-
One area where Klinsmann has moved quickly is in naming Martin Vasquez as his No. 1 assistant
coach. The U.S. manager had previously indicated that he would audition guest assistants whenever
the team got together as a means of filling out the spots on his staff.

Brad Guzan earned his first win for Hull who downed Portsmouth in the Championship while Carlisle's
American duo of Mike Grella and Frank Simek fell to Tranmere Rovers in League One.
My fellow blogger Frank Heaven and I are often prone to debate the merits of players labelled "ball
playing centre halves". It's a term pregnant with meaning- and a slight damning with feint praise
is never far from the equation. For just as Glen Johnson's attacking attributes from full back are
often highlighted only to stress his defensive inadequacies, centre backs who can "play a bit" are
Former Duke star Mike Grella became the latest American to move on loan abroad during the January

Our latest guest post comes from John McGee, gaffer of Carlisle United website, Bring Me the Head

According to reports in today's press, Celtic boss Neil Lennon is ready to sign Coventry's Ireland
keeper Keiren Westwood in a free transfer swoop.
Lennon wants Westwood to join his top SPL outfit in the summer but may try and tie him to a
pre-contract shortly if he can sort out personal terms with the highly-rated Irish shot-stopper.

Bjorn Helge Riise came off the bench in the 71st minute and promptly scored a

Coventry City on Saturday.
The Respect campaign is five years old this season, so how's that going? Well, it depends on how
you judge such things. The view of the players, as voiced by players union head Clarke Carlisle is

Diomansy Kamara started, played 72 minutes, and scored a goal in Leicester
City's 4-0 win over Burnley on Saturday. I'd post his goal, but I can't find any video nor can I
access the BBC iPlayer. Today he started and played 76 minutes on the Foxes' 1-1 draw with Crystal
Palace.
Kagisho Dikgacoi started and played 90 minutes in Crystal Palace's 2-1 loss at
Ipswich on Saturday.
Jason Kreis and Real Salt Lake take on Monterrey in the CONCACAF Champions League final. I was on a
conference call today about the match. The calls take a long time and to give everyone a fair shot,
reporters are only allowed a question or two. It takes even longer to write up the quotes, and just
as I was finishing, MLS sent out a quote sheet.
Former Ireland manager Steve Staunton is on the verge of returning to Liverpool in a coaching
role.
Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish, who took Staunton to Anfield as a 17-year-old in 1986, is
expected to make the announcement on Monday when he travels over to watch a Liverpool XI play Bray
at the Carlisle Grounds.
Our long national nightmare is over. Bob Bradley has been ousted as coach of the USMNT. And like
Jeff Carlisle says, there's little downside:
World Cup qualifying doesn't start until next year. There is no Confederations Cup to
plan for. And given the USSF's ability to schedule quality friendlies, there would seem to be ample
opportunity for a new coach to get up to speed.
Young Arsenal striker Rhys Murphy, who has recently declared for Ireland, is attracting strong
interest from Glasgow Rangers.
Murphy, 20, has already been training with the Ibrox club and recently played in a trial game
against Hamilton.
West Sussex-born Murphy, whose grandfather hails from Dublin has declared for Ireland, with sources
saying the processing of his application by the FAI is well advanced.
Clarke of the court Football's cleverest player Clarke Carlisle has been charged with drink

Police said: "A 31-year-old man has been charged with driving with excess [.
Darryl Duffy's career trajectory may perhaps have left the striker wondering if he has perpetually
arrived too early for the party. Most notably, journeyman though he may appear to be, he has
enjoyed spells at two clubs which, not long after his departure, have attained Premier League
status. First, he joined Hull City in a fanfare of publicity five years ago, his 37 goals in just
68 games for
Their Words The whole game was quite a unique experience with the stoppage of the game yesterday
when we were winning 1-0, sitting around in the locker room for another two hours last night and
then getting up early this morning for kickoff. It took a lot out of both teams, but again, our
boys came through.

One of a whole gaggle of new players to join Arsenal on transfer deadline day, Israeli captain
Yossi Benayoun has taken little time in celebrating his loan move from west to north London.

As a fan of a Non-League side it's very rare that I have anyone to talk to about the team I
support. I completely understand why some people will have little or nothing to say about the
Non-League but what really gets on my nerves is when I hear people writing it off as being a poor
level of football.
Y'all remember when Young Jozy signed my pumpkin? That was a fun night replete with Bruce Arena's
smirks and tequila shots with Joey Vide. Jozy was just a baby then, hadn't even suited up for the
Nats yet if I recall correctly. My how s*** done changed for him (and his former club but that's
another topic entirely).

It's come down to this for the New York Red Bulls. No cushy, concrete confines of Red Bull

On the road, in Frisco, in the rain.
Hans Backe's team is typically winners there in their last 4 (3 wins), but Dallas was missing

Dallas will try to shake the slump and as we learned in today's column by Jeff Carlisle
"momentum" going into the playoffs means little.
Gems of the Lower Leagues: Charlie Austin is a post from: Just Football

Charlie Austin has made a meteoric leap from being a bricklayer playing for
part-time Poole Town as late as September 2009 to free-scoring striker for Burnley
in the Championship.
