Team Coach Vance Carlisle of 6 Weeks To Soccer Magic demonstrates how to improve the accuracy of

Landon Donovan converted a penalty kick in the 43rd minute and Bocanegra scored on a diving header
off Dempsey's knock-down header in the 68th Saturday night for a key 2-1 victory over Honduras.
Carlisle:
U.S. shows some grit + player ratings
The USSF can be pretty depressing. While certain problems are to be expected due to the
relative youth and lack of resources of US Soccer, others are just baffling. My biggest complaint
of all is the inability of the USSF to part ways with personel. Senior national team coaches are
guaranteed a minimum of four years.
Head over to ESPN Soccernet and read a nice piece about one-time Rowdies midfielder, Hugo Perez.
The article is by Jeff Carlisle and details the career of one of the better US national team
players of the late 1980s and early 1990s. Before Claudio Reyna and Landon Donovan, there was
Hugo.
He played just two seasons with Tampa Bay and unfortunately his career coincided with the dark
years after the collapse of the NASL.
Morecambe have taken former Liverpool youngster Craig Lindfield on trial, skysports.com
understands.
Lindfield is looking for a new club after having his contract at Liverpool cancelled by mutual
consent.
The 21-year-old came through the ranks with the Reds and helped them win the FA Youth Cup in 2006
and 2007.
It was a difficult year for the Bay Area boot squad, but an easy choice on who to ask for some
answers. Sorting through the Earthquakes rubble for us is ESPN & Center Line Soccer all-star Jeff
Carlisle.NSC: What went wrong?JC: Just about everything. Players like Francisco Lima and Scott
Sealy werent adequately replaced at the start of the season.
If Boro haven't been brought back down to earth already after the semi final victory over Ebbsfleet
United, then they certainly will have by tomorrow night when they visit Histon in the Blue Square
Premier. It's back to the bread and butter for Westley's men after reaching Wembley and another 10
cup finals await, this [.
Soccernet's Jeff Carlisle gets the engines warm for the first Superclasico of 2009. With the way LA
has played so far, on paper this should fall to the Goats. But the derby atmosphere is the wild
card as it always elevates the level of play to unusual heights. It really is a toss up for me.

This man without a team may finally have his prayers answered in San Jose.
Jeff Carlisle over at Centerline Soccer (please click here and here for the original and full
details at his site) is reporting that 28 year old Trinidad and Tobago international striker
Cornell Glen is training with the San Jose Earthquakes for the week, after which they will decide
whether to offer him a contract or not.
Championship Playoff Final: Burnley 1 - 0 Sheffield United
Burnely completed a fairy tale season by winning the ultimate prize, promotion to the top flight of
English Football. Burnley was not considered one of the better teams in the league when the season
began, but they completed an historic season by beating Sheffield United 1-0 in the playoff
final.
Before I give my short pre-game analysis of Saturday's game at the CAB I would like to say that
I feel honored because it seems that Coach Curt Onalfo took the time to read my last post and
e-mail me his opinion on my criticism about the team, the players and his coaching. Since the Coach
sent me an e-mail and did not post his answer in an open forum (comments) I will not answer his
e-mail in an open forum (although I will do it if he's OK with that), but regardless of his
displeasure with how I see things, I can only say that my article is actually based on facts and my
opinions were based on those facts.
Of all the Italian players in the new jerseys, the standout was the kid from New
Jersey.Teaneck-born Giuseppe Rossi scored twice in the second half, Daniele De Rossi had a goal and
Italy rallied to overcome a Landon Donovan penalty kick and beat the United States 3-1 Monday night
in its opener at the FIFA Confederations Cup.

The US National team have an all-important World Cup Qualifier against El Salvador on Saturday

The U.S. hasn't lost a home qualifier since Sept. 1, 2001, when it fell to Honduras 3-2. Since
then, the Americans have gone 16-0-1 at home, the lone blemish being a 1-1 semifinal round tie
versus Jamaica during the 2006 campaign that occurred after passage to the final stage had been
secured.
Earlier today, we featured the review of the book 'Secret Diary of a Liverpool Scout' which, I
think is a must read for all Liverpool fans. Now here's a chat with the writer of the book Simon
Hughes about what went into the writing of the book. We hope you'll enjoy.
How did the idea to write a book about Geoff Twentyman come about?

League One
Leicester City have won League One and bounce back to the Championship a season after being
relegated. Peterborough continue their climb up the divisions and will join Leicester in the
Championship along with the playoff winner. Scunthorpe needed a late goal from captain Cliff Byrne
to earn a 1-1 draw against Tranmere to claim the final playoff spot.

I won't lie, I've been busy today with loads of last minute work at the office thanks to
everyone taking their holiday breaks tomorrow and due to having to finalize all my Christmas
shopping. Yes busy day and I'm partly to blame for the ladder of those two items since I put that
kind of stuff off until the last minute.
St Patrick's road trip was all in vain as they left Carlisle Grounds with no points, falling to
Bray to drop to fourth place in the Irish Premier Division.
Remember that roster spot which opened up when San Jose traded Nick Garcia to Toronto? Well it
looks as though they are poised to fill it:

The San Jose Earthquakes' extreme makeover looks set to continue, as the team is on the verge of
signing Canadian international midfielder Antonio Ribeiro, CLS has learned.
The bad thing about having a "real job" is that I don't blog about the beautiful game as much as
I'd like. There is a silver lining though, I get to ignore lots of topics that are only marginally
interesting to me and rather focus on some more interesting theories.
I decided to sit down for a few minutes and think about an article that for blogger standards is
ancient (August 26) but that struck a chord for me.
