The real hero from yesterday's Carling Cup final this l'il Liverpool fan took his
self-administered retina assault like a chief...
Richmond Kickers head coach Leigh Cowlishaw is interviewed about the concept of cost-free youth
academies and what that means for youth soccer in America. We suggest a few improvements for the
MLS All-Star Game, discuss Carlos Tevez' apology, Eddie Johnson's press conference and ask the
question: Would Liverpool fans rather have the Carling Cup trophy or a spot in next season's
Champions League?

With six days since the last match, there seems little need for drastic changes from the side which
beat Wolves three-nil.
Park Chu-Young is a proven goal scorer. However, he needs a hell of a long leg to score from the
bench, which is where he's been wasting away all season long for Arsenal. Chu-Young is getting fed
up of watching games instead of participating in them and according to his agent he's ready to
leave Emirates Stadium in the summer.
THFC1882 welcomes another guest post by Anthony Lombardi, this one may have
some foaming at the mouth:
WHY SPURS NEED ARSENAL TO BE BETTER
As Arsenal succumbed to a humiliating 4-0 Champions League thrashing by AC Milan at the San
Siro, a rather surprising thought came to me:
Should we really be celebrating the demise of Arsenal Football Club?
Another week, another disappointment. I undertook this column the week before the Carling Cup
Final last February and it's kind of felt like I've been firefighting an overwhelming tide of
negativity ever since. That's not necessarily because I have felt positive about what we have
witnessed over the last twelve months per se.
To say the Gunners were woeful in defence against Milan will be an understatement. It was a
shocking performance. The 8-2 debacle at United earlier in the season didn't occur completely by
accident either and we can be fairly certain this isn't the last time Wenger's side have crumbled
defensively.

Here we see Jamie Carragher facing a bit of nosey, post-Carling Cup final questioning from Sky
Sports reporter Andy Burton, and duly taking Burton over his knee and paddling the little twonk's
pink buttocks (metaphorically of course) by responding with a killer quip about his past
conduct.

Does exactly what it says on the tin, 40 lovely photos from yesterday's Carling Cup final at
Wembley...

It's turning into National Jamie Carragher Day around here. This time it's the moment that Sky
Sports reporter Andy Burton attempts to coax some sort of post-euphoria retirement announcement
from the Liverpool legend. Pointing out that Carra had been partaking in a spot of Wembley
photography, was no longer a regular starter under Kenny Dalglish [.
We break down Arsenal's big win in the North London Derby, get a good look at Klinnsman's USMNT
roster for the Italy friendly, and have a good go at guessing his starting XI. We furrow our brows
at Stuart Pearce's England squad, and ask why Liverpool fans' reaction to the Carling Cup win was
so very muted (at least in Josh and Al's apartment anyway).
Tonight will be the fourth time Newcastle have met Blackburn Rovers this season. Danny Guthrie we
want to do even better now We met them in the Carling Cup and lost 4-3 at Ewood Park and then we
beat the 2-1 at home in the FA Cup, and 3-1 at home in the Premier [...]
In three short hours we face a stiff test. No, Bolton aren't that good. But for this is a test
for Wenger and the boys.
We've lost three games in a row in the league for the first time since 2007. We should have
drawn all three, and we could have won any of them. We're in 6th spot in the league, six points
behind Chelsea and have a worse defensive record than West Brom.
Languagecaster's ggod, bad and ugly: a side doing well in both the English Cup competitions, a
bizarre situation for women's football in the USA and tragic events in Egypt.
After I wrote a while ago that Manchester City were the clear favourites for the Premier League
title this year, my opinion seems to have changed over the past few weeks. Their recent form has
seen them playing decent enough but Manchester United have gone that extra mile. Manchester City
has lost on far too many occasions this season.

With the return of Luis Suarez to the Liverpool on Monday night, having served his mammoth ban from
football, reports are that Manager Kenny Dalglish will opt to unleash the talismatic Uraguyan
striker from the bench.
Monday night's game from Anfield will see Liverpool pit their wits against 3rd-placed Spurs who are
something like 12 points ahead of Liverpool in the Premier League.
Liverpool are in the midst of a mini-resurgence at the moment; the Carling Cup Final awaits;
hated-rivals Man United were recently dispatched with ease in the FA Cup, and it was back to
winning ways in the premier league against Wolves last week. Things are definitely looking bright,
but the plain fact is Liverpool are still seventh in the league, five points behind fourth placed
Chelsea in.

Luis Suarez's spell on the sidelines has come to a close.
Having served his eight-match ban for racially abusing Patrice Evra and a one-game suspension
for a gesture to Fulham fans, Suarez is set to return for Liverpool on Monday in its game against
Tottenham.

What a return it has been for Kenny Dalglish. Only Cardiff City now stand in the way of
Liverpool lifting the Carling Cup at Wembley later this month and thus securing the club's first
trophy in six years. King Kenny has brought the buzz back to the city. And thankfully, whatever the
dramas off the field, everyone at Anfield appears to be pulling in the same direction once
again.
After nine matches away, El Pistolero was back in the Liverpool line up. The Uruguayan had been
watching in the stands as the mighty Reds gained excellent results against Manchester City and
Manchester United without him. Suarez came on as a substitute and could not inspire Liverpool
against a weakened Spurs team.

Some players want to leave, Arsenal will be going places this summer, the English NT is filled
with jerks... your usual cup of Arse here at the Offside
We start today's blog with a subject Arsenal fans are always delighted to hear about: player
departures. Park Chu-Young has indicated that if keeps getting ignored for play action, he might
leave in the summer.
Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson believes that playing at Old Trafford tomorrow afternoon
could actually prove beneficial for the Reds, who have not been at their best at home this
season.
Despite using the Kop to their advantage to knock Manchester City out of the Carling Cup and
Manchester United out of the FA Cup, Liverpool's league form at Anfield has been nothing to rave
about.

Landon Donovan has one more game to leave his mark on Everton.
The Los Angeles Galaxy captain will be returning from his loan spell this Sunday, Galaxy coach
Bruce Arena told reporters on Tuesday. He will be returning to Los Angeles in full shape.
The FA aside, the news cycle has been a bit slow lately. I did receive an anonymous tip that in
Garden City, Kansas, a caterpillar had recently formed a cocoon and in a few weeks time may
possibly become a butterfly. However, the "source" failed to provide enough detailed facts to
corroborate the story, so instead I went with "Mourinho will quit Real Madrid to coach
England.
This happened.
4-0. A four, followed by a dash, followed by a zero. We fucking sucked tonight. Fucking abysmal.
An average Milan side who was on a poor run of form completely outclassed us, all but ending this
tie. People were expecting a spectacle, a great clash of the European titans.

Landon Donovan's Everton loan might be coming to an anticlimactic close.
Everton manager David Moyes said that Donovan has been battling the flu and is doubtful for
Saturday's FA Cup match against Blackpool at Goodison Park, though he has not been ruled out
completely.
"Landon's been great all round, he's contributed in every area, on the pitch and off the pitch
he's fitted in really well," Moyes said on Everton's official website.
Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech wants his teammates to revive their deteriorating campaign by
winning at home to Birmingham City in the FA Cup tomorrow a feat that he realizes won't be easy to
accomplish.
Birmingham suffered relegation last year but the Championship outfit has managed to become
somewhat of a cup specialist, claiming the Carling Cup at Arsenal's expense at Wembley 12 months
ago and now looking to send another London club packing out of the FA Cup.
Back to the business of football, then? Sounds like a welcome distraction if you ask me. More,
after the jump:
Heading forward
In our last foray into the FA Cup, we managed to slide past QPR courtesy of a Juan Mata penalty.
Yes, it took a stroke of luck and good fortune to secure safe passage into this current round- with
a fixture against a resurgent Birmingham squad.
Big, big match for us. Let's hope we can get back on track and arrest what could be a worrying
downturn in our season.
Sunderland
Recent Form: Very, very good. If the League started on the day O'Neill became manager,
they would be top. We did beat them in the same stadium a weak ago, doe.
Ahead of this evening's 5th round tie between Liverpool and Brighton & Hove Albion at Anfield, Gus
Puyet was in resilient form ahead of the FA Cup tie:
"I will do everything I can to win a football match, whatever you can imagine."
Brighton lie two points of the play-off places and are undefeated in ten games to date.
