U.S. WNT head coach Pia Sundhage officially named the 2012 Olympic Team a few hours before the
USA took on China from PPL Park on May 27. It was not an easy process for Sundhage and her staff to
cut down a talented pool of players to the 18 that will travel to the U.K. in search of Olympic
gold, but the Americans will bring one of its strongest Olympic Teams ever over the pond this
summer and that surely should make for some exciting matches.
This past Sunday, USWNT Head Coach Pia Sundhage announced the 18 players she will be bringing
with her to London to compete in this Summer's Olympic games in London. Eleven of the players named
to the Olympic squad also competed in the 2011 World Cup in Beijing. Three players named to the
squad, Shannon Boxx, Heather O'Reilly and Heather Mitts, are each returning for their third Olympic
games.

Union 2–1 Schalke
The Union are now 4–0–0 in international friendlies at PPL Park after a very entertaining
2–1 win over Schalke 04. The official attendance was 7,464 which, as is usually the case with
attendance figures, seems generous. Whatever.
U.S. women's national team coach Pia Sundhage has called on 28 players for a May training camp
in New Jersey ahead of a friendly against China at PPL Park on May 27, as the U.S. women continue
their preparations for this summer's Olympics.
The U.S. women will train in Princeton from Thursday until May 25 in the build-up to the
friendly, and this camp comes on the heels of an April camp in Florida in which 26 of the 28
players called upon this time around participated.
For a game that had its start time pushed forward four hours from its originally scheduled
8:00PM start time (Japan time), the USWNT played surprisingly well. With typhoons on the horizon,
the US Women quietly dispatched a Brazilian squad who played without their star player, Marta.
Brazil was also without their starting goalkeeper, Andrei, who picked up a head injury during their
recent game against Canada, diminishing their chances for revenge against the team that knocked
them out of the World Cup just nine months ago.

Philadelphia Union
Danny Califf says of the hype leading into Saturday's game, "I think there was a lot of hoopla
leading up to the game but once the game got underway, Union fans were cheering for the Union."
Califf, in the starting lineup after a two game layoff, was named to Goal.
The Nadeshiko were the better team in the first 45 minutes getting a number of chances with
their quick interchanges. The USA relied a bit too much on Alex Morgan who was quite dangerous but
there was no midfield presence to graft out scoring opportunities. In the 32nd minute Yukari Kinga
put Japan ahead after Hope Solo was able to stop the first shot but off the rebound Kinga, the
right back put the ball into the net.

The U.S. women's national team will play China at PPL Park on May 27 in a tune-up friendly prior
to this summer's Olympics.
The last time the two nations met, the United States defeated China 2-0 at the Four Nations
Tournament on Chinese soil in January of last year.
U.S. head coach Pia Sundhage has named the 23 players that will travel to Japan for two of the
biggest non-Olympic, non-World Cup matches the U.S. WNT has played in recent history, taking on
Japan on April 1 in Sendai (6:30 a.m. ET) and Brazil on April 3 in Chiba (7 a.m.)
Both matches will be broadcast on ESPN2.

NorwayAfter the USA's solid 5-0 win over Denmark in its first match of the Algarve Cup on Feb. 29, the
team will face Norway on March 2 in a quick turn-around. The players who played 90 minutes against
the Danes did not train on the field today, instead doing a regen session on the hotel, but the
remainder of the squad went through an extremely sharp session on the pitch.
U.S. WNT head coach Pia Sundhage has named the 21 players who will suit up for the four 2012
Algarve Cup matches. She brought 23 players to Portugal so only goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris and
defender Meghan Klingenberg (who suffered a slight ankle injury during training this week) will not
suit up for the games.
The U.S. WNT will depart for the Algarve region of Portugal next week in preparation for the 19th
Annual Algarve Cup, a tournament that has become a fixture in the USA's yearly schedule and soccer
culture.

U.S. women's national team coach Pia Sundhage has named a 23-player preliminary roster for the
Algarve Cup in Portugal, and there are no surprises in the bunch.
Abby Wambach, Hope Solo and Alex Morgan are among the usual suspects who will compete in the
tournament's Group B along with Denmark, Norway and defending World Cup champion Japan followed by
a placement game from Feb.

Despite both sides having punched their tickets to the 2012 London Olympics, bragging rights and
a No. 1 seed were on the line when the United States Women clashed with Canada last night.
Thanks to the continued brilliance of Abby Wambach and young gun Alex Morgan, the United States
trotted out a 4-0 victory to cap off what has largely been a pedestrian Olympic Qualifying.
It was the Alex Morgan show as the US downed Canada in the final of CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying.
Morgan scored twice and assisted on two Abby Wambach goals as the US ran out easy winners over the
host nation. The game was largely meaningless save for regional pride, with both sides having
already qualified for this summer's London games.
The US WNT overcame early match nerves and a very game Costa Rican team through goals scored by
Tobin Heath, Carli Lloyd, and Alex Morgan. This win qualifies them for the London Olympics. In the
other semi-finals, Canada held off Mexico, 3-1, to also book their spot. The final will be played
tomorrow and pits two of the most potent goalscorers in the game.
The US Women took down Costa Rica 3-0 to book their ticket for this summer's London Olympics.
Tobin Heath scored in the first half, Carli Lloyd continued her current run of form with a goal in
the second half, and Alex Morgan sealed the win with a late goal of her own.
Pia Sundhage made two changes from the team that faced Mexico on Tuesday, preferring Tobin Heath
over Amy Rodriguez and giving converted striker Kelly O'Hara a start at right back.
The U.S. Women's National Team faced a tougher test than expected, but ultimately the Americans
proved too tough for underdog Costa Rica and eventually punched their ticket to the Summer
Olympics.
A first-half goal by Tobin Heath gave the U.S. women the lead and despite a courageous fight
from the Costa Ricans, the United States held that one-goal lead before Carli Lloyd blasted home a
long-range blast in the second half to give the Americans a 2-0 victory in the CONCACAF Olympic
Qualifying semifinals in Vancouver.
If Costa Rica had any hope of qualifying for the Olympics this summer, it was extinguished in
the second half of tonight's match against the USWNT. While Costa Rica played hard all match long,
it wasn't enough, as the US scored two late goals to secure their fifth straight Olympic
appearance. The US Women's National Team now awaits the 2012 Olympic Summer Games in London, where
they will defend their 2008 gold medal from Beijing.
It was no walk in the park, but United States claimed an Olympic berth after withstanding a
spirited and stubborn Costa Rica to earn a 3-0 win Friday night.
Tobin Heath put the U.S. on the board with a 16th minute goal while Carli Lloyd followed up
with an insurance strike in the 74th minute.

The US Women did it again last night, defeating a Mexican squad that actually gave them a run
for their money. Don't let the 4-0 score fool you; the USWNT got lucky with two quick goals in the
7th and 8th minutes. That was it for the first half. Despite the strong will of Mexico, it wasn't
enough to stop the US who scored two more goals in the second half, winning Group B with all nine
points.
Mexico's World Cup qualifying victory clearly shook the US Women's National Team to their core.
On Tuesday night, the US settled the score, reminding Mexico, and the world, that there is still an
enormous gap in class between the two sides. Were at not for some shoddy finishing and a whole lot
of five-alarm defending, the score line could easily have been doubled as the US controlled the
match from the opening whistle and were rarely troubled throughout the 90 minutes.

Carli Lloyd scores a hat trick, Heather O' Reilly chips in with another as USA easily beat

reversed their shocking loss to Mexico in the World Cup qualifiers which forced them into a playoff

The U.S. team once again practiced indoors at BC Place (with the weather so far in Vancouver, trust
us when we say outdoors would not be too much fun), this time in preparation for its final Group B
match vs. Mexico. The CONCACAF neighbors will meet on Tuesday, Jan. 24 at 7:30 p.m. PT. Fans can
watch the game live on Universal Sports Network, Universalsports.

I tried to tune in to watch the USWNT take on the Dominican Republic at the appointed 10:30 pm
start time last night. In the 10 or so minutes it took me to update the stupid Silverlight player
and get the game to load, I missed the opening 3 goals, which all happened inside the first 7
minutes of the game.
