The FIFA Women's Ballon d'Or shortlist contains names from outside of the United States like Sawa, Sinclair and Marta, but is once against dominated by Americans. Winning the largest tournament of the year will do that. The Americans on the list are Carli Lloyd, Abby Wambach, Sounder Megan Rapinoe and Sounder Alex Morgan.

The USA and Germany played to a entertaining 1-1 draw in front of a sold-out crowd at Toyota Park on Oct. 20 as the Fan Tribute Tour presented by Panasonic continued. Of course, this was a wee bit more of a test (understatement alert) that the USA is perhaps used to on these post-world championship tours, but that made for a great game for the fans and the players.

Ahead of the USWNT's match against Costa Rica, it was announced that Pia Sundhage, coach for the US
women since 2007, will be returning to her native Sweden to pursue opportunities there. Sundhage,
whose 88-6-10 record over five years included two Olympic gold medals and second place in a World
Cup, leaves big shoes to fill for her successor.

Video games giant EA Sports has received criticism for failing to include women's players and

the Olympic gold medal.
The Americans' 2-1 triumph was watched by over 80,000 fans in Wembley Stadium and an audience of

records, controversy and redemption. And of course in the end it featured the triumph of the U.S.
Olympic Women's Soccer Team.
With a 2-1 victory against Japan in the championship game, the Americans claimed their fourth
Olympic gold medal out of five Summer Games in which women's soccer has been contested.
The winners were predictable long before the first match – arguably since the last kick of the
2011 World Cup Final penalty shoot-out. The United States, fuelled by revenge for a defeat in that
match they didn't really deserve, went ahead early in an appropriately entertaining Olympic final
and, despite Japan's best performance of the Games, stayed there.
True grit, and a little luck, propelled the United States women's national team to gold medal
glory at the 2012 London Olympics. Carli Lloyd was the unlikely hero of the match, scoring both
goals to lead the Lady Nats to a tight 2-1 win. Several fantastic Hope Solo saves, a few shots
aided by the cross bar and some last-ditch defending from her back line helped perserve the lead
throughout the match.
But guess who won the gold? Oh, you really don't know yet? Ha ha! Lucky media-free bastard!
U.S. tops Japan for soccer gold
The unlikely hero, of course, was Carli Lloyd, who risked having her head taken off by the rising
knee and foot of Abby Wambach to ensure she scored the first.
The United States won their third straight Gold Medal with a 2-1 victory over Japan in the 2012
Olympics. It was a record crowd of over 80,000 at Wembley Stadium and a rematch of the 2011 Women's
World Cup Final.
Carli Lloyd, who had recently lost her starting job, was the hero for the Americans with goals

Delran, New Jersey's own Carli Lloyd scored two fantastic goals and the defense bent but didn't
break as the Americans won a third consecutive gold medal with a 2-1 victory over Japan.
France's Camille Abily seen here with her football hero Zinedine Zidane (come on, you can't talk to a French footballer without actually mentioning Zizou!) has been nominated alongside nine other women for the prestigious FIFA Ballon d'Or award!

Since women's football entered the Olympics in 1996, the USA ladies have been in every final. Today
they were set to win their fourth Olympic gold medal in this sport in a repeat of the 2011 World
Cup final USA-Japan, which Japan surprisingly won.. Japan is a patient team. They bite and fight
themselves into the match, but that seemed to go against them today.
