Former Wizards Update

Down the Byline 11 November @ 10:38 PM EST
The former Wizards season in MLS continues to wind down and while there weren't a lot of goals this week by players, there was some news involving former Wizards. First I've added two new players to the list, as the Jermaine Hue and the Jamaican league started up a little bit ago. And the Wizards 4th round draft pick this past year, Akeem Priestly is now playing in the top division in Azerbaijan. Click to continue reading...

Expansion Draft List: Chivas USA

WVHooligan 11 November @ 07:32 AM EST

Who will Chivas protect this year? (Getty Images)

Yesterday we started our look at the expansion draft and who teams will and won't protect for this month's upcoming draft. The Philadelphia Union get ten players to pick from and this year will be as tough as any to predict who will stay and who will be left exposed.

Former Wizards Update

Down the Byline 04 November @ 09:39 PM EST
The list of former Wizards currently playing is getting smaller and smaller as more of the American team's seasons come to an end. The first round of the MLS playoffs are half over, so next week will be the end for even more former Wizards.

Western Conference Semifinal: Galaxy at Chivas USA

100 Percent Soccer 01 November @ 04:42 PM EST

Sunny and 80 degrees here at the under populated Home Depot Center.

Kick off has apparently been pushed back to 2:25 p.m. to accommodate TV if you're wondering.

It's the same starting lineup this afternoon that both teams fielded for the respective MLS season finales.

Here's Arena's team: Donovan Rickettts, Sean Franklin, Gregg Berhalter, Omar Gonzalez, Todd Dunivant, Chris Birchall, David Beckham, Dema Kovalenko, Mike Magee, Edson Buddle, Landon Donovan.

Houston Dynamo (12-8-9) at Chivas USA (13-10-6)

100 Percent Soccer 25 October @ 01:57 PM EST

Galaxy fans will be watching this one as closely as Chivas USA supporters given that the clubs will meet next Sunday should Houston beat or tie the home team.

A half dozen changes for Preki today after Chivas USA's rather meek 1-0 loss to the Chicago Fire last time out.

Carey Talley and Ante Jazic replace Mariano Trujillo and Jonathan Bornstein at full back respectively, with Bornstein sliding into the middle in place of Shavar Thomas who drops to the bench.

Most former Wizards were back in action this weekend. We're almost done with the regular season for MLS, meaning some players will be dropping off soon. The USL season is now completely done as Montreal are the Champions. I've also found two more former Wizards plying their trade in Trinidad. Both Gary Glasgow and Anthony Noriega are playing for United Petrotrin of the Trinidad Pro League. Click to continue reading...

Former Wizards Update

Down the Byline 30 September @ 08:55 PM EST
Another week of former Wizards updates. The USL playoffs are inn full swing right now. Still looking for a few former Wizards still, and since Carlos Marinelli hasn't even appeared for Argentinos Juniors at all, I'm doubting he actually signed for them, so he joins the list of former Wizards I'm searching for, along with Alex Zotinca, Doug DeMartin, Jose Burciaga, Neal Kitson, Scott Sealy, and Will John. Blog Death Watch: Jeff Bull

The Fake Sigi Schmid Blog 29 September @ 06:34 PM EST
Jeff Bull has called it quits (again) over at BigSoccer:
Good luck to all y'all and all your teams. I'm done, the Carey Talley Fan Club is closed, and the minutes from the final meeting duly recorded.
And to answer a question that might come into any of several brains, yes, I am this neurotic in real life.

New York Red Bulls (4-17-5) at Chivas USA (11-9-4)

100 Percent Soccer 26 September @ 09:29 PM EST

The Galaxy's 2-0 loss in Columbus earlier today (more on that later) has given Chivas USA the opportunity to pull within one point of their intrastadium rivals with two games in hand. But they need to win today to accomplish that.

Preki makes just one enforced change to the team that drew 0-0 with Seattle last time out, Carey Talley coming in for the suspended Marcelo Saragosa, shown a red card against the Sounders.

Final: Chivas USA-Chivas

100 Percent Soccer 24 September @ 10:26 AM EST

CD Guadalajara 2 Chivas USA 0

I "watched" this one on TV and this description of the alleged action by reporter Phil Collin is apt: "The first half was like a family reunion with everyone sitting in the living room trying to dream up something to talk about."

Still, that didn't prevent a Chivas USA player from suffering a potentially serious injury (bet Preki is thrilled with that).

Chivas USA Post-Game

100 Percent Soccer 14 September @ 03:55 AM EST

Chivas USA 2 Revolution 0

Highlights:

This was one of those it's all about the three points games because there wasn't much else to it. And it kept Chivas USA within striking distance (with games to spare) of the top of the Western Conference.

"Right now it's all about points, right now it's all about getting a position in the playoffs, and every game and every point is important, and today is no different," said Chivas USA Coach Preki.

Update: Revolution at Chivas USA

100 Percent Soccer 13 September @ 03:34 PM EST

Chivas USA's Carey Talley was sent off in the 70th minute for apparently throwing an elbow at the Revs' Edgaras Jankauskas (although it was hard to tell from the TV replay)

It's the most excitement we've had here in the last hour or so.

Chivas USA has drawn first blood in the 10th minute in a move that began when Carey Talley fed Justin Braun up the right wing. Braun's cross found Brazilian Maicon Santos inside the six-yard box who had the simple task of tapping it in with the Revs marking AWOL.

International Week Former Wizards Update

Football Americana Week 24: leaders stumble

Some People are On The Pitch 01 September @ 12:52 PM EST
Week 24 threw up a few little surprises in Major League Soccer, including defeat for both Houston Dynamo and Columbus Crew, another win for New York Red Bulls and something vaguely resembling consistency from Real Salt Lake.
The week's action began in Salt Lake last Wednesday, where RSL thumped Chivas USA 4-0. Click to continue reading...

SuperClasico Lineups

100 Percent Soccer 29 August @ 09:32 PM EST

It's thankfully cooling off here in Carson - the temperature right now is 76 degrees - as Chivas USA and the Galaxy play the season's third and final SuperClasico.

If Chivas USA wins tonight they would win the SuperClasico trophy because the teams would be even with four points apiece after a 0-0 tie and a 1-0 Galaxy home win earlier this season.
