Walking wounded

1
Unless something drastic changes, there is quite a bit of talent and experience that will be absent for Chivas USA against the Galaxy on Thursday.

Now, that doesn't mean that the club will field a reserve team or anything but there are concerns over certain aspects of Chivas USA's potential lineup. Click to continue reading...

Should Have Been Easier

1
3 points is 3 points, but that came should have been much easier then it was. Up 3-0, the Wizards allowed Chivas USA back into the game, and if not for some stellar keeping by Kevin Hartman, we'd be talking about Chivas coming back to earn a point being down 3-0. Thankfully it didn't, and we're talking about 3 points and the Wizards currently in a playoff spot. Click to continue reading...

Chivas USA-New England running blog

2
Welcome to the beautiful Titan Stadium for tonight's SuperLiga (and I use the word beautiful loosely). I tried to get pictures of both teams before the match but only New England gathered for a team shot. Perhaps Chivas players were too focused on the game...

Here are the starting lineups:

Chivas: Dan Kennedy; Carey Talley, Claudio Suarez, Bobby Burling, Francisco Mendoza; Sacha Kljestan, Daniel Paladini, Jesse Marsch, Jonathan Bornstein; Ante Razov, Roberto Nurse. Click to continue reading...

Carey-ing the load

1
When Chivas USA acquired Carey Talley, I figured he'd man the right back slot until Lawson Vaughn was healthy enough. I didn't realize that he'd become such an integral part of the squad, so much so that The Law may not play right back provided he gets back healthy and Talley stays healthy.

I had the chance to catch up with Carey after the match as he was holding his new but fully drenched Santos Laguna jersey. Click to continue reading...

Talley it up

2
Carey Talley battled Edgar Castillo all match long, and the two exchanged jerseys as the match ended. I don't know where Castillo put his Talley jersey, but Talley had Castillo's with him (you can just see it on the edge of the picture).

Of course, the Talley jersey his kid is wearing here wasn't from this game. Click to continue reading...

SuperLiga: Santos Laguna at Chivas USA

2

All sorts of changes tonight for Chivas USA including Dan Kennedy in goal, Claudio Suarez on the bench, Mexican Roberto Nurse making his debut up front and young Kraig Chiles getting a rare start (likely as a withdrawn forward).

The Chivas USA lineup: Kennedy, Jim Curtin, Carey Talley, Shavar Thomas, Jonathan Bornstein, Francisco Mendoza, Sacha Kljestan, Paulo Nagamura, Chiles, Nurse and Atiba Harris.

Chivas USA - Pachuca running blog

2
Andrea is absent from tonight's match so I'll try and hold the fort down in her absence.

Pachuca won SuperLiga right here in this building a year ago, topping the LA Galaxy in PKs. But, los Tuzos also lost a game right here to the same Galaxy squad, dropping a 2-1 result in the tournament opener. Click to continue reading...

SuperLiga: Pachuca at Chivas USA

1

Chivas USA plays its first ever competitive international game tonight against SuperLiga and CONCACAF Champions Cup title holders Pachuca.

So it's a hell of a time for goalkeeper Lance Parker (Missouri State) to make his professional debut. Parker is favored over presumed starter Dan Kennedy with Brad Guzan headed to England's Aston Villa.

Keeping Talley

1
Bobby Burling wasn't the only Chivas USA player who was new to the Clasico. Carey Talley joined Chivas shortly after the first game and though he was injured when he arrived, he's been a great pickup for the club.

He's filled in well at the right back spot and at this point figures to keep Lawson Vaughn on the bench whenever the Law returns healthy. Click to continue reading...

Chivas USA-Galaxy at Home Depot Center

5

Five changes for the Galaxy this evening after last week's loss to New England and no wins in the last three games.

Most fans will undoubtedly be pleased to know that even with an ankle injury to central defender Sean Franklin that was announced Wednesday the hapless Abel Xavier is nowhere to be seen.

San Jose Earthquakes-Chivas USA at Home Depot Center

0

Chivas USA (5-6-3) can jump from sixth to tied for first in the Western Conference with the Galaxy if they manage to beat the worst team in MLS, the San Jose Earthquakes (3-8-3), who have one goal in the last four games while going 0-2-2.

Coach Preki makes three changes to the team that drew 1-1 last week with the Red Bulls.

U.S. Open Cup Result: Chivas USA at Seattle Sounders

0

Chivas USA:
*Lost yet again Tuesday in the U.S. Open Cup (and for the second successive year) against the USL Seattle Sounders, falling 2-0 in the Pacific Northwest.

*Had the experienced likes of Claudio Suárez, Jesse Marsch, Carey Talley and Francisco Mendoza on the bench. Striker Ante Razov and defender Bobby Burling (Loyola Marymount) remained in Southern California after picking up minor knocks over the weekend.

Chivas USA/NY running blog

Sorry this is late. I couldn't find the TV channel for this at first.
"Andrea, why aren't you at the game?"
1. Gas is expensive.
2. I have no assignment to cover this match.
So TV running blog it is.
NY - Jon Conway, Kevin Goldthwaite, Hunter Freeman, Carlos Mendes, Seth Stammler, Sinisa Ubiparipovic, Dave van den Bergh, John Wolyniec, Dane Richards, Andrew Boyens, Jeff Parke
Chivas USA: Brad Guzan (GK), Claudio Suarez, Jim Curtin, Francisco Mendoza, Ante Razov, Carey Talley, Jonathan Bornstein, Bobby Burling, Jesse Marsch, Sacha Kljestan, Justin Braun
15 - I love the matches in Spanish - the announcers usually sound much more serious about the game. Click to continue reading...

Red Bull New York at Chivas USA

0

It's the ( 5-4-4) Red Bulls against (5-6-2) Chivas USA on a lovely night for soccer at Victoria Street.

Chivas USA Coach Preki has named a 3-4-3 formation, although indications are we'll see a 4-4-2 with Jonathan Bornstein (who is listed as a forward) actually playing at left back.

Brad Guzan is in goal as usual, while Jim Curtin is presumably drafted into the middle of defense alongside Claudio Suarez, leaving Bobby Burling at right back.

Back from Prague

Well it was unfortunate to see the Czechs crash out of Euro 08. I was hoping to be able to see them play while I was over there, but it was not to be as they lost before I got there. My research trip I would generally call a success, even though I did not find 100% of what I was looking for. I am looking into Jan Masaryk and especially events leading up to his death in 1948 by apparent suicide. Click to continue reading...

This one's wide open early.

Chad Barrett just missed badly. Erratic is what Shep Messing called it. I think Blanco called it something like mierda, I'm not sure...

Half Time: Real Salt Lake at Chivas USA

1

Real Salt Lake, looking for their first-ever win against Chivas USA in Carson (and their first on the road this season), found something to build on in the first half, taking a 1-0 lead through Robbie Findley, for his third goal of the season.

RSL, which showed more attacking initiative than Chivas USA, deserved the lead.

Real Salt Lake- Chivas USA at Home Depot Center

A curious line-up this evening for Chivas USA Coach Preki.

Dan Kennedy makes his MLS debut in goal, while Sacha Kljestan also starts.

Does that mean Brad Guzan starts in goal Sunday for the U.S. against Barbados instead of Tim Howard? Does it also mean Kljestan won't even dress tomorrow for the World Cup qualifier?

Euro 08 and Chivas

First to the Euros. I can't stop watching. Who would have thought the Dutch would emerge as the team to beat? Wow! Beating, emphatically, both Italy and France, excellent. Spain also look tough, but I'm not convinced yet as they won big against a pretty weak Russian side. What can I say about Portugal either? Click to continue reading...

Clavijo's Mediocrity Marches On

2
With the Rapids loss to Chivas USA at Dicks Sporting Goods Park, they have yet to win 2 games in a row in 2008. At least in 2007 they pulled off a couple of winning streaks. One was 3 games and the other was 2 games. Not much to brag about? Yep. But so far 2008 hasn't been much better.

This loss really gets my goat.
