The Webb City school board is being pushed once again to add Girls Soccer to the activities
offered by the school. You may recall in the Summer of 2008 when the School Board said no
Superintendent Ron Lankford said the R-7 Board of Education voted June 10 not to add girls
soccer and golf programs this fall based on his recommendation.
Duke standout Andrew Wenger and Stanford senior Teresa Noyola were named winners of the Hermann
Trophy on Saturday in recognition of being the top players in Division I NCAA soccer.
Wenger, who signed a Generation Adidas contract after a stellar junior year at Duke, led the ACC
with 17 goals and eight assists.
I've seen Luis Suarez do this but Recreativo Estrellas keeper Gabriel Orozco actually draws
blood after biting Nicolas Cardinal on the face and deservingly getting a straight red card in
doing so.

In a bizarre act of utter madness that even Chris Foy (or is it Hoy?) and his team of assistants
couldn't miss, one Gabriel Orozco, goalkeeper for Argentinian side Recreativo Estrellas,
decided to bite the face of an opponent after a minor coming together in the box during a local cup
game in Cordoba.
The Stanford Cardinal are the newest champions of Division I women's college soccer after defeating
Duke 1-0 in a hard-fought final at KSU Soccer Stadium outside Atlanta. The winning goal was scored
about ten minutes into the second half by Teresa Noyola. Much had been stated about Duke's slow
starts in their previous NCAA Tournament matches, and I think coach Robbie Church must have
communicated to the team that if they did the same against Stanford they would find themselves
behind early.
The U.S. WNT was right smack in the middle of training today when the final whistle blew at the
2011 NCAA College Cup, giving the Stanford Cardinal its first NCAA title in women's soccer. That
didn't stop Stanford Alumni and WNT regulars Kelley O'Hara and Rachel Buehler from hearing the
score right away and sharing high fives and a big hug.

Teresa Noyola scored from point-blank range Sunday to help top-ranked Stanford beat No. 3 Duke
1-0 and give the Cardinal their first NCAA women's soccer title after three consecutive attempts.
It was the perfect finish to Stanford's unbeaten season.
Stanford seniors Noyola, Camille Levin, Kristy Zuhmehlen and Lindsay Taylor finished their
college careers with a record of 95-4-4.
After pounding ACC tournament champion Florida State 3-0 on Friday night in the first
semifinal of the College Cup, Stanford has a chance to play once again for the national title.
The Cardinal advanced to soccer's version of the Final Four by completing its third straight
unbeaten season, a feat that parallels the great University of North Carolina teams with Mia Hamm
in the early 1990s.
The NCAA Women's College Cup, taking place this weekend at Kennesaw State Stadium in Kennesaw
will be the first NCAA soccer championship held in Georgia since 1968. And one thing is for
certain there will be a first-time national champion crowned at this year's NCAA final.
All four College Cup teams were seeded first in their respective brackets, and include three
ACC schools—Wake Forest, Duke and Florida State—and two-time NCAA runner-up Stanford, making
its fourth consecutive College Cup appearance.
In the updated BCS standings, the Stanford Cardinal have moved up to No. 4. Boise State, like
usual, got screwed and dropped a spot to No. 5, while the top three of LSU, Alabama and Oklahoma
State remained the same.
Stanford jumped from No. 6 after beating USC in triple overtime. However, Stanford will need
some help to move into the national championship picture.
Stanford, the No. 6 ranked team in the land, had a fight on their hands at USC against the
Trojans. But Andrew Luck and the Cardinal kept scratching and clawing until they took home a 56-48
victory in triple overtime.
Luck finished the game 28-for-39 for 302 yards and three touchdown passes.

The Champions League Final between Barcelona and Manchester United kicks off at 1:00 pm Saturday on
Fox Sports Midwest (same channel as Cardinal's games, right?) which conflicts with the Springfield
Catholic Quarterfinal game. So...
For local Soccer fans Bill Griffiths will have two screenings of the game at Farmer's
Gastropub.

For the second-consecutive year, the Hermann Trophy is in the hands of a Zip and a Cardinal.
Akron junior forward Darlington Nagbe was voted the best Division I player by the National
Soccer Coaches of America (NSCAA), beating out fellow forwards Will Bruin of Indiana and Colin
Rolfe of Louisville.
