Charlie Davies has been released from the hospital and is progressing well in his recovery since
a terrible car accident in October. The American striker was on the rise after proving himself in
Europe, scoring consistently for the USA National Team, and contributing for Sochaux in Ligue 1. He
suffered significant injuries from the car crash and most figured a recovery in time for next
summer's World Cup Finals unrealistic.

Charlie Davies is lucky to be alive, and the long list of injuries he suffered in a deadly car
accident on late Monday evening provides the evidence.
Recently, ESPN's Jeremy Schaap sat down with American striker Charlie Davies for his first

Underwent surgery Tuesday afternoon after being injured in a one-car crash early Tuesday morning.
There are certain angles of the game that I think often get overlooked by the average football fan.
For example, football psychology is of particular fascination to me, but it often gets swept under
the carpet, or else ridiculed a la Glen Hoddle and his faith healer. But it should be of great
interest to us, especially since the first really great football psychologist was one of our own.
Rafa Benitez has made peace with Sir Alex Ferguson in a private letter.
The pair have been at loggerheads all year, but the Liverpool boss wrote to Fergie after the
Manchester United manager's grandson was badly injured in a car crash.
Benitez, a father of two girls, wrote offering his help while 10-year-old Charlie Ferguson is at
Alder Hey Children's Hospital in Liverpool.

America's best option up front, Charlie Davies
Update: Davies' injuries may
be career threatening.
Here's wishing America's Charlie Davies well, after it appears he was involved in a car crash last
night. Davies is in surgery, and seems to be doing OK, but reports suggest that there was a
fatality in the accident - a 22 year old woman.
More fuel to the spreading rumor that Montreal is set to be awarded the next league expansion

Also, RSL's Will Johnson, Chicago's Bakary Soumare and Chivas USA's Zach Thornton have all been
added to the MLS all-star game to replace tired and injured folk.
The 2009 FA Community Shield Match was sponsored by McDonald's whose ads were everywhere telling us
how much they support football in the community. What their ads don't say is they simultaneously
destroy football in the community by making their awful food available to consumers.
Manchester United's first goal was simultaneously a clinic in the effectiveness and ineffectiveness
of teamwork.

All it takes is one weekend and so many crazy stories come out, many of them sad, many of them
bizarre.
First off, here's a ref giving some heckling fans the finger. He later provided this quote:
"I let myself get provoked by the verbal insults of the fans and was dragged down to
making an unsporting gesture.
USA defender Oguchi Onyewu had surgery this week to repair a ruptured patellar tendon in his
left knee, that he injured in the recent World Cup qualifying game against Costa Rica.
After the game the U.S. Soccer Federation estimated that his recovery at three to four months,
but the federation issued a new estimate of six months on Thursday after his operation.
I'll update this story a little later in the evening when there's more detail. For now, though, the

San Lorenzo and Club América de México manager, has been involved in a car crash near

12.45 Chelsea v Hull City, Premier League, Sky Sports 1 / Sky Sports HD1
The Premier League begins right here (as Sky are probably only too keen to remind you). Hull earned
a creditable goalless draw here last season but few will predict anything similar this time around.
Toluca will play Marthon on Thursday
It was looking very shaky for a while, but Toluca will indeed be traveling to Honduras for their
Concachampions tilt vs. Marathon. Toluca had decided against making the trip because they were not
sure that the safety of the team was guaranteed.
Firstly, congratulations to Arsène Wenger on becoming the longest-serving manager in Arsenal
history, overtaking George Allison's previous record from 1934 to 1947. Allison's reign included
the Second World War of course when only war-time games were played which don't count in the
official records.
Who: Arsenal (England) Vs Olympiacos (Greece)
What: UEFA Champions League, Group H, Matchday 2.
Arsenal, as favorites of their group, will be looking to overcome Olympiacos, in order to move
another step closer towards qualification.
Here's a short video tribute to Charlie Davies who was seriously injured in a car crash this

United States and Sochaux striker Charlie Davies has been released from hospital after being
injured in a car crash last month near Washington DC.
In Bob Bradley's search for Jozy Altidore's strike partner now that Charlie Davis is
unfortunately out for six months or more recovering from that horrific car crash.
Johnson has always been an enigma. Great promise and an ability to get behind defenses with his
speed. His was a blazing start with the MNT as he scored 7 goals in the 2006 World Cup qualifiers
including a goal on debut against El Salvador and a hat trick three days later against Panama.
Usually when the injury news pops up over the International Break it comes in the form of pulled
hamstrings or strained thighs - as in Frank Lampard's case with England today.
But this year continues to be the year of sad and scary high speed road accidents in world
football.

River Plate's ever-sensitive former Argentina forward Ariel Ortega, who has been under treatment
for drinking, was hurt more by the media attention than the accident when he crashed his car on
Wednesday.
Having pranged his car in Argentina yesterday, he just knew it was too good an opportunity for
those Argentine hacks to miss.

This week's Ultimate 11's is transfers that shook the world. Who can remember David Jack's
controversial £10,890 move from Bolton to Arsenal back in 1928? Not even Mickey Marbles remembers
that one! Or how about the rather unfortunate Gianluigi Lentini who signed for AC Milan in a world
record fee of £13m, only to be involved in a serious car crash a year after signing, the extent of
the injuries he received were a fractured skull and damaged eye socket and he spent approximately 2
days in a light coma.
Right then, we'll start first with team news ahead of tonight's clash with Olympiacos. There's
no Theo Walcott who still hasn't recovered enough from his back problem to make the squad although
the manager did hint he may be involved on Sunday while Young Guns reports he's due to play in a
behind closed doors friendly against Olympiacos reserves tonight.
Bendtner will miss the Olympiakos clash due to being in a car crash.
Arsenal vs Olympiakos
The Gunners will be keen to put the horrible start against Standard Liege behind them against
Olympiakos on Tuesday. A solid 1-0 win has to give them confidence going in, especially in young
Italian goalkeeper Vito Mannone made a series of spectacular stops against Fulham at the
weekend.
Apologies for my absence over the past few days, my server has been somewhat temperamental.
It is a bit late to tell you about the game on Saturday night but you can see my summary here on
my Sunday column:
Yesterdays win was fantastic in my book, we were made to show a few characteristics that
have been beyond the side in the last few seasons.
