Photo by ISIphotos.comAs you may know by now, I had the opportunity to interview U.S. national team striker Charlie
Davies last Friday in his first detailed interview since the car accident that nearly took his
life. What I found was a player in the midst of an amazing recovery, a Charlie Davies who looked
much more like the Davies we knew before last October's deadly car cash than the Davies we saw look
so swollen and unfamiliar in the interview he did with ESPN in late November.
You probably know of Darius Vassell's toils in Turkey. What you may not know is that he
documents his mental travails in a blog. Some of which is quite disturbing. Read on for the
choicest exerts...

I feel like there is something stirring, boiling .
Clint Dempsey, a US Soccer supporters favorite looks like he could be available for the World
Cup this summer.
That sound you just heard was the US Soccer community exhaling a collective sigh of relief. You
know you just did! Fulham Football Club, the team that I follow and support in the English
Premiership, announced late on Tuesday in England, that American international Clint Dempsey will
NOT NEED surgery on his knee and is expected to make a recovery for Fulham before the end of the
season.

Charlie Davies has a message for all the doubters who didn't believe him when he said he would
be back for the 2010 World Cup.
You just don't know.
If you've read my ESPN.com story on Davies, you know how determined he is to come back, and just
how far he has already come since the accident.
After weeks of rally and support, it has now emerged that River Plate's promising midfielder,
Diego Buonanotte may be discharged from the hospital in two days following his
horrifying car accident which claimed the lives of his three friends.
"He's a very peaceful guy, he's not a "night-man" and he was not drunk.
Bob Bradley should find out by the Monday what the exact fates of Fulham forward Clint Dempsey
will be after sustaining a serious injury at the weekend.
Dempsey suffered a knee injury in in the 61st minute of Fulham's 2-0 defeat at the hands of
Blackburn Rovers. An MRI was already taken and the initial prognoses indicate that he might have
suffered a torn PCL (posterior cruciate ligament).
After a phenomenal run at the 2009 Confederations Cup that saw the team finally fall to an
experienced Brazilian side, the USA is set to play England in it's first group match of the 2010
World Cup. One of the promising new youngsters of the tournament was Charlie Davies, who with his
pace and invention added a new dimension to Red White & Blue alongside Jozy Altidore.
As I'm sure many of you know, yesterday's post was a bit controversial. I attempted to take a
creative look at the CBA and the writing came across a bit poor to some of you -- while others
seemed to like it.
While I'm happy that the piece provoked such strong reactions from some of you, I wanted to say
that I didn't write the piece simply to get people fired up.

No, Charlie Davies is not fully recovered and he has a whole lot more to do just to get out on
training ground again. But if you ever doubted he could make that recovery let alone make it in
time for the World Cup this summer, yesterday's outstanding article by Ives Galarcep may make you
feel guilty for ever doubting.
