Photo by ISIphotos.comAs you may know by now, I had the opportunity to interview U.S. national team striker Charlie
Davies last Friday in his first detailed interview since the car accident that nearly took his
life. What I found was a player in the midst of an amazing recovery, a Charlie Davies who looked
much more like the Davies we knew before last October's deadly car cash than the Davies we saw look
so swollen and unfamiliar in the interview he did with ESPN in late November.
It was a remarkable attempt for Charlie Davies to come back from a litany of injuries suffered
in an October car accident.
He's rehabbed, training and done everything humanly possible to get back on the field in time
for June's World Cup, but according to his club team, he's set to miss out on the trip to South
Africa.
Soccer America reported today that Charlie Davies is back to training, which is great news for the
US National team - roughly 3 months from the start of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
Charlie Davies tweeted the good news on Thursday: "It's official! I'm done with rehab!!! Leaving
for Sochaux tomorrow!
Charlie Davies said in a news conference recently that the next three weeks will be important in
his bid to return to action this season with French club Sochaux and hopefully make the U.S. World
Cup team.
He has resumed training at Sochaux and spoke on Friday, five months after the serious car accident
in Virginia that left him with multiple injuries, and said he is "closer and closer to being back.
You probably know of Darius Vassell's toils in Turkey. What you may not know is that he
documents his mental travails in a blog. Some of which is quite disturbing. Read on for the
choicest exerts...

I feel like there is something stirring, boiling .
Charlie Davies' club teammate, Jacques Faty, has admitted asking Davies to lie to
the police
Just a few days ago, news broke that Charlie Davies was stopped by police speeding 201 km/hr.
Given that Charlie Davies is still recuperating from a serious car accident last year that resulted
in a young woman dying, the news that he was found driving a car at such dangerous speeds caused a
bit of a stir.
Oh momma I can feel this coming....
According to the Sochaux web site, Charlie Davies, who scored his two goals against Bordeaux in
Ligue One last season, has been called up from the reserves for the first time since his terrible
car accident to face the same Bordeaux tomorrow at home.
The US striker has battled for over a year to return to senior team fitness after a horrific
accident in Washington D.
The Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner has spoken out for the first time about his car accident
before Christmas, when he wrote off his Aston Martin on the way to a training session. He was so
glad that he survived he immediately went out and spent £160,000 on a replacement model. "It's
parked outside,' he said in [.
Bob Bradley and his US National team coaching staff has some tough choices to make in picking the
roster for the FIFA World Cup in South Africa. A provisional roster of 30 players needs to be
submitted by May 11, and then down to the final 23-man roster by June 1.
Jeffrey Marcus of the New York Times looks at the task ahead for Bradley.
It has seemed at times that every moment the U.S. Men's National Team begins to get a glimpse of
what their squad will look like come the first group match of the World Cup, the injury bug
strikes.
At the Confederation's Cup, Charlie Davies became a household name and the U.S. finally had a
much needed injection of youth into the striking corps.
The man that played in the #11 jersey for Real Madrid occasionally last year was not Karim
Benzema. Well, maybe the Karim Benzema who plays for France. But it was certainly not the
Benzema that I saw playing for years in Ligue 1. The man I saw last year looked timid, unsure and
unhappy.
Clint Dempsey, a US Soccer supporters favorite looks like he could be available for the World
Cup this summer.
That sound you just heard was the US Soccer community exhaling a collective sigh of relief. You
know you just did! Fulham Football Club, the team that I follow and support in the English
Premiership, announced late on Tuesday in England, that American international Clint Dempsey will
NOT NEED surgery on his knee and is expected to make a recovery for Fulham before the end of the
season.

Charlie Davies has a message for all the doubters who didn't believe him when he said he would
be back for the 2010 World Cup.
You just don't know.
If you've read my ESPN.com story on Davies, you know how determined he is to come back, and just
how far he has already come since the accident.
Charlie Davies hopes of making the World Cup roster took a significant hit today, when his club
announced that he will not feature in a Ligue 1 match this season.
"He won't play again this season in Ligue 1," Sochaux president Alexandre Lacombe told local
paper Est-Republicain on Thursday.
Team USA's Charlie Davies, who was fatally injured in a car accident in Washington D.C. last
October returned on Monday for full training with his French club Sochaux.
The United States will open up the World Cup with a much anticipated match on June 12th against
England.
Davies wrote Monday on his Twitter feed that "it's about time & it feels great!
With the Red Bulls back in training today ahead of their US Open Cup clash with New England
Revolution on Wednesday night, a few bits of interesting news have emerged from Montclair. First,
the man pictured above, Brazilian defender Cléber António Oliveira, better known as Clebao, is
currently on trial with the Red Bulls and could see action in the upcoming friendly against
Juventus, should Backe and company decide to take a longer look at him.
Charlie Davies is obviously upset and frustrated about not being released by his club Sochaux, and
has been venting through the media.
"I'm very angry because I feel FC Sochaux has denied me a chance at playing in the World Cup,"
Davies said on the French radio station RMC's "Luis Attaque!
I've called in Matt Acconciamessa of US Soccer Daily for a little for-and-against on the
possibility of Charlie Davies making the US roster for the Brazil match next week; there are solid
reasons for US Soccer to both bring Charlie home for the match and pass on his return for another
day.
A fan's homage to Diego Rodriguez
Yesterday it was reported that Diego Rodriguez, 22, was in critical condition following a car
crash that left him suffering a fractured skull, brain damage, punctured liver, broken ribs among
other injuries. The accident occurred on Thursday when the player's car collided with a truck on
Montevideo's seafront boulevard (near the center of the city).
American striker Charlie Davies could face prison time in France after revealing that he made false
statements to French police following an incident where he and Sochaux teammate Jacques Faty were
caught driving 125 MPH.
Davies had told police he was the driver of the car clocked driving 125 last Saturday, but
revealed on Saturday that it was, in fact, Faty who was driving.
Charlie Davies will be in uniform for French club Sochaux for the first time since being badly
injured in a deadly car accident 14 months ago when Sochaux takes on Bordeaux on Sunday.
The club announced the news on Saturday, and Fox Soccer Channel will air the match on Sunday
(11am). FSC was originally airing Chelsea vs.
After weeks of rally and support, it has now emerged that River Plate's promising midfielder,
Diego Buonanotte may be discharged from the hospital in two days following his
horrifying car accident which claimed the lives of his three friends.
"He's a very peaceful guy, he's not a "night-man" and he was not drunk.
Bob Bradley should find out by the Monday what the exact fates of Fulham forward Clint Dempsey
will be after sustaining a serious injury at the weekend.
Dempsey suffered a knee injury in in the 61st minute of Fulham's 2-0 defeat at the hands of
Blackburn Rovers. An MRI was already taken and the initial prognoses indicate that he might have
suffered a torn PCL (posterior cruciate ligament).
After a phenomenal run at the 2009 Confederations Cup that saw the team finally fall to an
experienced Brazilian side, the USA is set to play England in it's first group match of the 2010
World Cup. One of the promising new youngsters of the tournament was Charlie Davies, who with his
pace and invention added a new dimension to Red White & Blue alongside Jozy Altidore.
As I'm sure many of you know, yesterday's post was a bit controversial. I attempted to take a
creative look at the CBA and the writing came across a bit poor to some of you -- while others
seemed to like it.
While I'm happy that the piece provoked such strong reactions from some of you, I wanted to say
that I didn't write the piece simply to get people fired up.

No, Charlie Davies is not fully recovered and he has a whole lot more to do just to get out on
training ground again. But if you ever doubted he could make that recovery let alone make it in
time for the World Cup this summer, yesterday's outstanding article by Ives Galarcep may make you
feel guilty for ever doubting.

If I had told you two months ago that critical forward/winger Charlie Davies was going to play
in the World Cup for the U.S. you probably would have scolded me for joking about such a serious
event. After all Davies was fighting for his life after suffering a horrific car accident that
left one person dead and Davies with several severely broken bones (including the femur), facial
lacerations, and a lacerated bladder.
Word off the news wires reveals Charlie Davies underwent elbow surgery on Tuesday to repair damage
he suffered in an October car accident. While the injuries Davies incurred usually take six to 12
months to heal, the USMNT striker is defying all... Read more
Whenever Jose Mourinho is involved you never know what will happen and this match is no
different. Except for the fact that Wednesday he will be facing his old club and last year's Milan
derby nemesis, Carlo Ancelotti.
Mourinho claims that his in-depth knowledge of Chelsea will not give his side the advantage:
"I know Chelsea well but that doesn't mean that it's any easier," he said.
Right then. I've got to touch on a couple of things this morning before we move on.
Tony Pulis claims that 300 Arsenal fans emailed messages of support to Ryan Shawcross. I mean, I
could talk about how every Arsenal fan I have spoken to this last week think Shawcross is a
horrible clogging cunt and doesn't merit the slightest bit of backing, least of all from Arsenal
fans, but I don't think I need to.
It doesn't seem like just six months ago since since Charlie Davies' fateful car accident and a
moment that shook U.S. national team soccer fans to their cores, but here we are, six months on and
that much closer to Davies making a miraculous recovery.
Davies is projected to return to action for Sochaux in early May, which would mark just seven
months since the accident.

The determination of the human spirit should never be undersold. Especially when there is a
World Cup roster slot on the line.
Charlie Davies nearly died October 13th, 2009. After being involved in a
serious car accident, which included the death of the driver in his car, Davies was written
off.
This will most likely be the headline of some of the most important newspapers in the morning.
Angel Cappa made his official debut in El Monumental with a victory. The goals: Ortega and
Ferrari.
With this Victory River finished a negative streak of 534 minutes without scoring a goal.
Gimnasia's Marco Pérez was the hero in La Plata (Diario Uno)

Chacarita lose their second coach of the tournament as Mauro Navas resigned, further confirming
that the club is going to go back to second division.
All of the positive momentum surrounding Charlie Davies' comeback has hit a roadblock, as FC
Sochaux president Alexandre Lacombe told a French newspaper that the American forward won't play
for the Ligue 1 side before the season ends.
Davies, who's recovery from a summer car accident has been nothing short of remarkable, was
still considered a hopeful to make the U.
Sports Illustrated are reporting that Charlie Davies will not play for Sochaux this season,
casting further doubt on whether or not the American forward will be ready for the World Cup this
summer.
Sochaux president Alexandre Lacombe reportedly told local newspaper Est-Republicain, "He won't
play again this season in Ligue 1.
The players, staff and fans of TOT-CAT are mourning the loss of 31 year old Chanon Wong-aree, who
passed away in hospital on April 17th following a car accident. The club have retired the number 19
shirt as a posthumous honour, and there will be a minutes silence before TOT-CAT play Thai Port on
Saturday.
Charlie Davies (25 June 1986) plays striker for the USA national team and the French Ligue 1's
Sochaux. Davies, who was nearly killed in a car accident last October in Washington D.C., has now
returned to full training as he looks to get match fit for World Cup 2010. Davies has had a no
quit attitude during his recovery process and has done everything in his power to get back onto the
pitch in the shortest amount of time possible.
The biggest winners of the weekend just gone were undoubtedly Racing Club, who took an enormous
step towards securing their place in the Primera División next season as their rivals fell by the
wayside. On Sunday night Ariel Ortega had a car accident (he, and the occupants of the other car,
are fine), Seba Verón [.
