Or maybe they can just plead ignorance? Perhaps they'll have changed it by now, so I grabbed a
screenshot from Grant Wahl's recap just in case. Quick! What's wrong with this picture? Or rather,
the caption... Whoops! Heck, the .jpg is even named...
As the great Bill Shankly remarked: "Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I
assure you, it's much more serious than that.". It many cases we would be inclined to believe him.
There are times when football captivates us so much that we forget that at the end of the day,

I have to say I feel sorry for Liverpool at the moment, it seems that their midfield is about to be
decimated. Xavi Alonso and Javier Mascherano are both wishing for moves to sunny climes in Spain
and Steven Gerrard is defending himself in a court case. Xavi Alonso seems to favour a move [...]
As there has been a lot of talk of one Arsenal legend returning to Arsenal, I'll give you four
points for the funniest caption regarding one of the biggest:

With the news that Xabi Alonso has handed in a transfer request in order to set in stone his move
to Real Madrid Liverpool fans are in despair. For 5 years the Basque midfielder effortlessly pinged
the ball around the Anfield pitch; whether it be 5 yards or 50 yards its precision was guaranteed.

You know, I never do the CAPTION THIS thing, but this one was too good to pass up . . . .

Got a case of the Mondays? Take some time out of your day and come up with a caption for this
photo. I found this gem via Behind the Badge and thought I'd share it for a little contest:
So many things happening at one time. From Chris Pontius puffing his cheeks out to Jaime Moreno
and Ben Olsen covering themselves where the sun don't shine.
Good afternoon and welcome to the latest installment of You Write the Caption, the contest where
we ask readers to submit their funniest captions to go with the humorous soccer-related photos we
find.
Congratulations to SBI reader Blake for winning the last YWTC contest, the Liverpool Lovebirds
edition.
English Premier League club Portsmouth have announced that their owner Alexandre Gaydamak has
accepted an offer from Dubai based billionaire Dr.Sulaiman Al-Fahim to buy the club. Al-Fahim, who
is on the board of the Abu Dhabi United Group (Owners of Man City), had talks with Pompey chairman
Peter Storrie last night in Rome.
That's a bit harsh This poor chap wants to talk about Notts County's takeover, but ends up with a
caption he probably didn't want. In the process Sky Sports managed to create the most prominent use
of the c-word in one of their reports since they stopped asking Steven Bywater onto their shows! [.

It's time for the latest installment of You Write the Caption, with David Beckham and Landon

Before we get to the top entries for the Beckham/Donovan photo, it is time to recognize the

Newcastle took on Leeds in a friendly at St. James Park today, so I thought we'd check in and
see how things went as the Most Troubled Club on the Planet played host. The caption attached to
the above picture:

. A dismal draw was witnessed at Ewood Park between Blackburn and West Ham United as none of the
teams scored. Blackburn substitute David Hoilett had two chances but was stopped in his tracks by
the keeper. This match was very important for the Rovers who have lost all their previous
encounters this season.
. Chelsea stopped Burnley from their third win over a ‘Top 6' team after they had scalped
Manchester United and Everton. The Blues won 3-0 in a match that saw the first half being
defensively contested by the newly promoted team. Goal keeper Brian Jensen gave a spirited
performance for Burnley as he [.
.Just days after Chelsea were handed a transfer ban until 2011 it seems that Manchester United
could very well be next in the firing line. Fifa have received a complaint from French club Le
Havre over the transfer of 16 year old Paul Pogba who moved to Old Trafford at the beginning of the
summer. Whats [.
How long does he have left?
With Portugal on the verge of non-qualification for the World Cup in 2010, manager Carlos
Queiroz is under extreme pressure and has the very real possibility of unemployment looming over
him. Given this threat, and inevitability that this will occur, I ask you.

After the Texans finished polishing off the Raiders I decided to check in on the Orange. What
was the first thing I saw? It was Cam Weaver making an aggressive tackle and receiving a red card.
Well, I was watching a Spanish channel so he actually received a roja card. But don't worry, I'm
told it's the same thing as a red card.

winning entry to the Sven-Nery edition of YWTC.
The news that Newcastle were humiliatingly beaten 6-1 by Leyton Orient in a pre season friendly on
Saturday further confirms how far this club has fallen. Pre season games should not be over
analysed by any means but when your team is soundly beaten by such a large scoreline then it
suggests that there are [.
It unfolds so perfectly that it almost seems fake, but then you read the caption on the Youtube
page that says the kid needed surgery after this and you realize it probably wasn't.
Also, this continues the DTotD subgenre of people getting tripped and smashing their face into
the post.

with a 1-0 victory over Birmingham at Old Trafford. United put early pressure on

Tottenham have defeated title hopefuls Liverpool 2-1 at White Hart Lane. The
first half was cagey affair with the two sides feeling each other out. Tottenham had slightly the
better of the first half and former Liverpool striker Robbie Keane was denied twice by Liverpool
keeper Pepe Reina.

Blackburn Rovers 2-1. Striker Kenwyne Jones was the star for Sunderland as he struck twice to seal
the match for is team. Gael Givet had the score board ticking as he scored [...]
The Midfield Magician
Cast your mind back to May 2009, Manchester United were comprehensively and soundly trounced in
Rome by a magical Barcelona side, inspired by Xavi and Iniesta. For many, the lack of quality in
the centre of the park was plain to see, Carrick looked lethargic and unsure of himself, Fletcher
was missed, this, a surprise in itself.
Can Diamanti emulate Di Canio?
Can West Ham United's new Italian talent have the same impact on the Hammers as club legend
Paolo Di Canio did between 1999 and 2003? Gianfranco Zola signed Alessandro Diamanti for a fee of
around £6 million in the summer. Big money for an untested player especially in light of West
Ham's supposed financial handicap.
Big Story
It's been a bad week for football with racism by fan(s) prominently rearing its head again.
Supporters continue to take a stand against racism in the game, but sometimes even their own clubs
don't support their efforts in a shocking and petty move, Bristol Rovers
management have refused to run an anti-racism ad in the club's matchday magazine by the club's own
supporters trust, the Gas Independent Fans' Trust (GIFT).
Fulham came from two goals down to hold Manchester City to a draw 2-2. This played a spoiler to
City's clean record at home as they have won their last seven games at Eastlands. While the match
saw some tense minutes in the first half, no team could score. Joleon Lescott broke the shackles

by CARL ELDRIDGE I am only guessing here but surely to heaven this picture is a result of the
upcoming Children in Need campaign. The snap dropped into our mailbox and we thought, you know
what, let's see just how inventive you lot can be. So, I have a spare ticket for the Arsenalv
Standard Liege Champions League game later this month at the Emirates and I'll give it to the best
caption sent in to us here at arsenalinsider by the end of the week.
Once we've stopped tittering, we'll try to write a caption for this photo of Michael Owen and
Anderson waiting to board the Manchester United team bus on November 7th. It may be some time

Ronaldo's two goals meant Real Madrid qualified for the last 32 stage in their match against
Marseille. They stay group winners as AC Milan followed them close behind. Real won 1-3 as Ronaldo

Bilbao's Kit To be Used For Copa del Rey final (Europapress)
When stepping on to the pitch at Mestalla, Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao will both have 24
conquests in the Copa del Rey. In an effort to begin the campaign to become once again the
undisputed Cup King, the Basques presented an exclusive jersey that will be exclusive to the Copa
final.
José María Gutiérrez was always a players with a temperment. Now that same temperment has him
on the outside looking in with Madrid coach Juande Ramos. This rivalry has become part of the
subplots in the Madrid media as the team now sees the weeks pass by and their six-point deficit on
Barcelona not budge.

Welcome to the latest edition of You Write the Caption. We received more than 70 entries for
this photo of Tom Hicks and George Gillet making nice during a recent Liverpool match and some of
YWTC entries were very good (and some were great, but not quite family friendly if you know what I
mean).

On that note, enjoy your Wednesday.
