At 3:37pm on Thursday, 2nd December 2010, it was announced by Fifa president Sepp Blatter that
Russia will be the host nation for the 2018 World Cup.
Ater tireless preparation by some of England's most prestigious faces that includes the likes of
Prince William, PM David Cameron, David Beckham, Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker, our bid was
subsequently eliminated in the first round of voting.
Now before I begin, you have to realise this article is entirely based on the fact that England
have made a solid start to their Euro 2012 qualification support and should, emphasis on should,
comfortably qualify for the tournament in Poland/Ukraine. With Capello's decision back in the World
Cup not to name his team selection until a few hours before kickoff, treat this as a shot in the
dark at who will play in the Euro 2012.
This is my latest piece for In Bed With Maradona. Bit frivolous but what can I
say, I don't get out much.
.
For some reason I've always been strangely drawn to the idea of wife-swapping. Probably, it has to
be said, because I've never had a wife. I think I was influenced by the seductive story of Ronnie
Wood and George Harrison's evening spent jamming on their guitars.
Here we are with the 9th edition of Calcio Thoughts! As always, I have to thank all of you that
ask questions every week, because with your questions Calcio Thoughts would never be able to
succeed. Another week of great questions! Next week Calcio Thoughts will take a break because of
the Holidays, but it will return the following week for it's milestone 10th edition!
Chelsea youngster Ryan Bertrand has given an interview to a local newspaper in Nottingham and has
stated he made the right choice joining Nottingham Forest on loan but at the same time is wondering
whether staying at Chelsea would have seen him called up to the England team.
He said:
"I often think about whether I might have got a chance at Chelsea, if I was there,
There is probably more of a chance of that now than there would have been a year or two
ago.
.In the wake of last Monday's humiliation (Yes Jose, it was a humiliation, if it wasn't to you, it
was to Madridisimo), I sought solace with fellow Madridistas to ponder the loss at my favorite Real
Madrid Blog – The Offiside. It's a great place for a level-headed, humble discussion about Real
Madrid.
I couldn't think of a catchy, headline grabbing title for this match preview so I figured I'd
just go with the does exactly what it says on the tin method. Tonight we have our sixth
and final champions league group game away to FC Twente and while we're at it, our subtle leader is
babbling on about the England job again.
By now the dust is beginning to settle over England's disastrous 2010 World Cup campaign as well
as the unsuccessful 2018 bid, but a disappointing end to 2010 for England may once again have the
critics debating whether this England team is actually capable of anything noteworthy on the
pitch.
Reminds me of my mate in England around 30 years ago.
Sean Parker . On completing my Business Management degree Sean said, "I was going to go University
and do a degree, but my mate /Steve Atkins, Akkers, didn't pick up the form."
Now the same dynamic attitude could keep English football in the "thump long and get it right up
at" era.
