Not that it's going to happen right now, but how bizzare/brilliant would it be if Toronto's demand
remains so fervent that for once a soccer team needs to make more seats instead of having too many
seats available? They're thinking about that and a host of other big thoughts up there in
Canuckistan right now.
The funny thing about the MLS expansion race is that you don't hear a damn thing from anyone for
months but then all of a sudden one group says "We're still trying to get a team" and
this avalanche "Hey, we're still in this too!" articles comes flying at you.
Portland started off the latest round of madness last week, quickly followed by Vancouver and some
overgrown children who carry dolls.
In addition to a couple of MLS clubs playing in the US Open Cup tonight, the inaugural Canadian
Championships start tonight when Toronto FC goes to Montreal. Now if you live in Canada you're
probably well aware that the game will be carried by the CBC. If you don't reside in Canuckistan
you're in luck because you can still watch the game online at CBCSports.
They had a press conference in Ottawa today. They also opened a website. Doesn't that stadium look
exactly like the old mock-ups of the stadium in Harrison when the Metrostars 1st floated the idea?
See, this is what I'm talking about. Put the fire brigade on notice because Canuckistan will be on
fire August 20th. Toronto's Park Lane club is hosting the official after-party for Wednesday's
World Cup qualifying game between Canada and Jamaica and it's going to be bananas. Why? Because
it's hosted by Dwayne de Rosario, Julian deGuzman and Fulham's Paul Staltari.
Toronto, don't sleep! Ain't no party like a DeRo party 'cos a DeRo party don't stop!
Hey y'all. If you happen to live in SoCal or frequent some of the dodgy Sopcast sites out there,
you can watch LA's game tonight against Vancouver Whitecaps live from Edmonton, Alberta...that's in
Canada. It's KWHY Channel 22 in LA, which is a Spanish channel.
So that's an American team, playing in Canada and available only on a Spanish-language channel.
Toronto FC are the Jackie Robinson on Canadian MLS clubs; they opened the door for wealthy
Canuckistani's nationwide who have big time soccer dreams. And while Vancouver and Montreal have
been knocking on the front door for a while now trying to lock up the Larry Doby spot, Ottawa --you
read that right, Ottawa-- is trying to use the tradesman's entrance and sneak in through the back.
I feel bad for RSL's Will Johnson. Dude scored a cracker on Saturday that is quite simply one of
the most skillful goals you will see all season regardless of league. Yet he won't even win Goal of
the Week because of Danny Cepero's freakish feat. And to top it of Max Bretos referred to him as
"the little Canadian" after scored; can't a kid get a break?
I have nothing to base the following on so take it --and everything else on TOR for that matter--
as merely one fan's random perspective. I was just reading this article in the Toronto Globe & Mail
about how Toronto FC owners MLSE may be purchasing GolTV when the following line caught my
attention: "It's conceivable that Toronto Blue Jays games could air on an MLSE channel
nationally.
Next on my list of favorite albums for 2008 is the third album from Montreal's The Stills. After
their altogether brilliant debut album Logic Will Break Your Heart, the guitarist left and the
drummer started playing guitar and splitting time as vocalist; it was a, um, sh*tty move that
resulted in a shockingly bad record, Without Feathers.
