You may remember that back in May I reviewed a football for this blog. You probably don't, but such
is life. If you do, you would remember that Soccerpro asked me to give an "honest, unbiased opinion" on the
blog and in return, I could keep the product they sent me. To me, it seemed a fair offer, so that
was exactly what I did: I wrote an honest review - that it was a good football, and in return I had
a lovely football to play with until I kicked it on the neighbour's roof, never to be seen again. Click to continue reading...
After a rather listless first half, an end to end move by the Galaxy in the 77th minute has
appeared to seal the win.
Goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts started the play, getting the ball to David Beckham, who passed to
Landon Donovan, who in turn got it out wide to substitute Chris Klein on the wing.
In the close season Arsene Wenger talked about making the Emirates more "Arsenal". So we
waited to see what was to happen.
When the Emirates was opened four summers ago, it was clear that the money had run out and there
were many blank, concrete clad walls. Arsenal fans accepted this as a short term measure knowing
that things would improve.
by Usman Azad, Football Perth Editor WELL, FP is back for another day - after spending a few hours yesterday with his cousin trawling

by the city. Click to continue reading...

We're less than a week away from the start of the new Premier League season, and though many
clubs have solidified their squads for the most part, there are still a lot of moves to come in the
next three weeks before the summer transfer window closes.
The two Merseyside clubs looking to be eying up a couple of talented midfielders from abroad,
while Hull City are picking up some real steam in the transfer market after hitting brick wall
after brick wall for much of the summer.
The Gunning Hawk brings you in advance the Wikio rankings for this month, known as the most
influential blogs in the UK blogosphere. Having made the rankings in January 2009 in position 105,
it was a rollercoaster of ups and downs as we went from 50th to 33rd and then down to 57th last
month.
But, we are delighted to now be in position 24 and thrilled to see so many Arsenal blogs in the
list.

A goal by Kenny Cooper gave FC Dallas a 1-1 draw at Houston Dynamo and clinched
El Capitan, the cannon awarded to the winner of the season series between the Texas rivals, for FCD
(ASN, June 29, 2008). The game was Dallas' second under coach Schellas Hyndman. The teams drew
three times last season but FCD took the trophy by outscoring Houston in road goals.
San Jose Earthquakes goalkeeper doesn't care about his saves if his team doesn't get any points
from a game. Following his team's 2-1 loss away to Seattle, Cannon was clear after the game that
saves are great when you get something from a game. Speaking to reporters after the game Cannon
said: "I felt like I did all right and they didn't create much, the couple of saves just kind of
came.
A week ago Wolfsburg managed to fulfill their dream and reach the champion's title. Even though
their primary aim was reaching Champions League for the first time, after the
first part of the season, even that seemed unreachable for Felix Magath's men. The
Wolves were the best hosts with only two points dropped at home, while they have gone whole autumn
without winning away.
Strike of the weekend for United's Darren Gibson at this cannon flies past an airborne Boaz Myhill.
Hull survived the drop regardless of the defeat with Newcastle and Middlesborough both losing on
the day. Click to continue reading...
I have been WAY too heavy on the WPS stuff, I admit it. Mostly because right now, MLS is baffling.
I've been afraid to read reactions to the Red Bulls win, because I think it's 50% Celades being New
York's first really good acquisition since JPA, 50% San Jose not having Huckerby, and 50% San Jose
being measurably worse than advertised. Click to continue reading...
The Houston Dynamo and FC Dallas announced rules changes for awarding El Capitán, the
18th-century cannon presented annually to the winner of the teams' season series. The teams will
meet for the first time in 2009 on Saturday night at 8:00 p.m. at Robertson Stadium in Houston.
The new rules do not include the away goals tiebreaker that was used last year, as the teams now
play an unequal number of home and away games in regular season play.
This from the home office in Frisco: FC Dallas and the Houston Dynamo today announced rule changes
for awarding El Capitán, the replica cannon presented annually to the winner of the teams' regular
season series. FCD and the Dynamo will...

Goals: Torres 33' The first thing I voiced after starting these Spain reviews was the worry that my support for the
Spanish squad would jinx their chances. After the conclusion of the tournament, I'm happy to say
the opposite turned out to be true. As I'm sure you've read multiple times by now, this is Spain's first major trophy in 44 years. Click to continue reading...
It's Thisaway's turn to win readers over one last time in our final template poll. I guess I might as well throw in my reaction to the Joe Cannon move. Personally, I liked Joe - he
was a stand-up guy who would take on most any question any reporter had. It makes me a little sad
to think that his honesty and my reporting what he said ever got him in trouble, because the world
needs more forthright people. Click to continue reading...
... in San Jose. Like Frank Yallop, Joe Cannon's stay in Los Angeles was not what it could have been. Like Yallop,
Cannon had long been considered one of the league's best at what he did yet neither could recreate
that magic with the Galaxy. Yallop left the Galaxy for San Jose, and he's now taken his preferred goalkeeper with him. Click to continue reading...
Talk about making a splash as they come back into the MLS. The San Jose Earthquakes (2.0 as some
like to call them) have gone out and traded for old Earthquakes netminder Joe Cannon from the Los
Angeles Galaxy for a partial allocation. Wow. I wasn't at all expecting this deal to come through
this quickly. Click to continue reading...
Its not a completely done deal but talks around the league say that along with the Joe Cannon to DC
deal could also see a deal with LA and Dallas moving Carlos Ruiz back to the City of Angels. So
this could be some kind of a mega-deal. Just a recap: Joe Cannon to DC Carlos Ruiz to LA (possibly,

One of the league's all-time best keepers could be on the move again this off-season. Steve Goff is
reporting that a deal between the LA Galaxy and DC United for Joe Cannon could be in the works and
may already be a done deal. Its hard to even give reasons against this kind of move for [...] Click to continue reading...
After the excessive time it took for the Galaxy to open their locker room on Thursday and being
told that the commissioner's mandate was "just a sign," I didn't go in their for one second. It's
too bad, because I wanted to get some player reaction about the result. Frank Yallop seemed rather
upbeat despite not winning but I wanted to hear how the guys on the field felt. Click to continue reading...
After the Galaxy's first two goalscorers versus Colorado went down with injuries, I asked Joe
Cannon how worried he was during the rest of the match about the extent of their damage.
"To be honest, I'm so happy that they scored, that I'm not really thinking
about that. I'm so relieved that we're on top. The forwards are the last things that I'm thinking
about at that point.
In what could be a turning point in the history of our blog, we now have documented proof that some
players read it - or at least have informants who read the material, then deliver hopefully
accurate approximations of what we actually write.
Truth be told, I felt rather awkward standing
there post-game, realizing the swing the conversation was taking.
Practically no goalkeeper had had a longer tenure in MLS than Kevin Hartman with the Los Angeles
Galaxy. Unlike the sometimes-sullen Zach Thornton, who also had a long stint with Chicago, Kevin
was outgoing and congenial with fans - justifiably a Galaxy favorite for years. It was never going to be easy for Joe Cannon to take over in such a situation, but to do so in this
difficult season has only compounded the adjustment. Click to continue reading...
This audio clip doesn't really have to do with the SuperLiga final, well, not much to do with
anything at all I suppose, as far as the Galaxy's on-the-field performances goes, but Joe Cannon
talked with a German TV crew for a few minutes yesterday. The first response is to a question about how David Beckham has affected Joe's life. I was standing behind the new rope the Galaxy has introduced to keep the players away from us (or
is it the other way around? Click to continue reading...
