Maroon Is The Colour

I don't know how long Geylang United have worn green. Certainly for me I have always identified them as the team in green. Green befits them. So why change the colour to maroon for the new season? Apparently the club consulted with management and the Singapore FA before going ahead with the change.

First off, I accept that this is a pretty unfair comparison.

To rank any Arsenal team from any era against the most feted group of Gunners ever to have worn the sacred cannon is clearly destined to be a mismatch.

It's a bit like comparing Dan Brown with Charles Dickens, or Boyzone with the Beatles.

The Sunderland fan on the train has low expectations but he's loyal and a long way from home on a cold Sunday afternoon. Spurs have more points, better players and better prospects but he has his devotion to his club, a precious commodity these days for any any fan as far as I'm concerned, so he expresses this in the time-honoured fashion: 'Where were you when you were s**t?

Liverpool loved Fernando Torres... now they rightly mock him

Torres had every attribute a Liverpool No 9 should possess. Strength, speed, ruthlessness and a right foot that could blast like a cannon. He was a force of nature, lively and worked tirelessly.

Why do Arsenal fans leave Emirates so early?

I'm starting to think I'm missing out on something. Is there a big party that everyone goes to? Something exciting on the telly? Or perhaps it's a free goodie bag for the first 10,000 on to the tube?

It's an age old moan but I am going to go on about it again. Just what is people's (I'm refusing to call them fans) excuse for leaving Arsenal games at the Emirates early?

Liverpool vs. Man United: Two blatant DIVES that spoiled the game...

The controversy over Luis Suarez's alleged racial abuse of Patrice Evra may have overshadowed Liverpool's (forgettable) draw with Man United at the weekend, but it also took the focus away from two blatant acts of cheating during the game.
As you will see from the evidence below, United's Ashley Young and Liverpool's Stewart Downing were guilty of trying to con the referee with outrageous dives.

Today’s Poll Question – What Would Cause You to Drop Arsenal as Your Favorite Team?

I got to thinking about this question in the wake of the most recent Carlos Tevez controversy. I know he's been a constant headache for years, but the latest news is that he apparently refused to enter the game on Tuesday, when Mancini summoned him at about the 60 minute mark. Of course, as an Arsenal fan, I pretty much just laughed at this one, hoping this is the beginning of a downward slide for Man City this season.

Finding themselves 2-1 down at Odd Grenland as the game ticked over into injury time, Tromso threw everybody forward in search of a late equaliser it wasn't to be, as Odd midfielder Jone Samuelsen took the resultant opportunity to seal the deal, heading home from the 50-yard mark to seal a 3-1 victory.

FC Barcelona and Real Madrid got pulses racing in Spain, thrashing Atlético Madrid and Rayo Vallecano respectively on Saturday night.

David Villa produced a sharp finish to give Barcelona a ninth-minute lead and the game looked to be up for Atlético just six minutes later when Thibaut Courtois saved Lionel Messi's shot, only for the loose ball to cannon into the net off defender Miranda.

Welcome to The Bridge, Juanito.

Let me see if I can track the genesis of this one. On Wednesday of last week, news broke that we were in pole position to get Mata from the clutches of Arsenal and Tottenham.

I'm starting a new feature for View From the Couch, the Rapids All-Time Team. Through the course of the season I'll roll out a starting XI of, IMO, the best Rapid player at each position. I've decided to go with a 3-4-3 over a 4-4-2 but it was close. There will also be a 7 man bench/honorable mention and a coach.

I wanted to win this game so badly before kickoff. I just wanted the players to leave their blood, sweat and tears all over the pitch. I got the sweat, but not the result. With Chelsea beating Birmingham today, it leaves Arsenal in 3rd place. Disappointing, but the performance from the team showed heart and

The game started as if the players had been shot out of a cannon and it barely let up for the entire first half.

Starting things of on Friday the 15th of April it was the clash of the titans, or maybe one titan and a has-been titan? Djurgårdens IF played hosts to reigning champions Malmö FF at the old Olympic Stadium in Stockholm. Djurgården used to be one of the top teams in Sweden and I don't think it's a stretch to imagine that in the near future they could reach such heights again.

I was sent a link yesterday to what is claimed to be Arsenal's home shirt for next season. Of course, the kit will be going along with the 125th anniversary theme and to be honest if this is it I will be wholly disappointed:

I had seen some prospective designs for next season a little while ago and there was one quite similar to this, however there were far better designs there.

What a Match – Sagna The Stalwart

What a match that was against Leeds. I know you saw it, so I won't go into all the gory details. Needless to say it was a thrilling match with a lot of back-and-forth play, featuring some stunning goals. Sagna blasted home a real cannon that the ghost of Schmeichel was unable to parry (check out my previous post for a picture of Sagna on top of the world with a goblet of fire wine while the Millenium Falcon flies overhead).
