Canberra United players Ashleigh and Nicole Sykes maybe be barred from playing in their local
Dubbo/Bathurst Under 18 team in the Western District boys league...but the story has reached the
FFA....
And the FFA has it seems engaged their Legal Department quicksmart.
Some members of the local association were laughing almost mocking when I rang them recently.

Last season Cian Maciejewski was the only local premier league player to take part in Canberra's
inaugural W-League side.
Peter Funnell caught up with Canberra United's new Coach Ray Junna.
Where else would you get such a lengthy interview on local football in Canberra?
Got to love volunteers in this city; And it's a great interview.

how hard is it to be a United player?
At last nights Canberra United award night The Nearpost's Russ Gibbs presented the fans player of
the year.
And presented with the winners trophy by Nearpost Host and Football Commentator Russ Gibbs was our
inaugural winner:
Lydia Williams.
With Cian Maciejweski in second place and Amy Chapman in third.
A few local types in Canberra complain and rant about girls from Dubbo getting a go in the Canberra
United W-League team.
Their logic is clearly flawed in my view. So only players from a town or city which has a W-League
team can play for that team. Should we kick out Ulladulla's Cian Maciejweski, Albury born Amy
Chapman and Albury resident Ellie Brush or do the rules not apply for them?
Canberra United defeated Newcastle Jets 1-0 in the W-League Semi-Final in Newcastle this afternoon
to take their place in the first historic W-League final next weekend.
If Sydney defeat Queensland tomorrow Canberra will host the final.
For now isn't it great to see the team from the Capital in the final.
20 players required.

Should Cheryl Salisbury be dropped? Should Elyse Perry be included. Courtney Beutel in? Jo Burgess
to remain a Matilda? Is Melissa Barbieri under threat from other keepers?
Ashleigh Sykes, Kyah Simon, Courtney Beutel, Lana Harch ahead of a returning Sarah Walsh?
Canberra United: it's the final but who should start?

Queenland powered to a 2-0 and wrapped up the inaugural Grand Final early.
Goals from Lana Harch and Tameka Butt gave the classy Roar the edge and there was no way back for
Canberra.
Alicia Ferguson was injured for the Roar and this allowed the pacy Ellen Beaumont a start and she
sped past Rhian Davies in the sixth minute.
Apologies to fans of the Nearpost..no National show this week due to..er I pressed the wrong record
button...you'd think after two years I'd get it right....and the Station is having a few
issues!!!!
Locally we have another great show. Peter Funnell wonders if Vikings wouldn't be better off running
Futsal in Canberra.
All fans have the chance for the 2XX Nearpost/Farpost Canberra United player of the year.
