FourFourTwo are hyping up "our Kofi" Danning as he aims to take it to the other Youth
Teams in the National Youth League.
Sydney FC's Kofi Danning (right) and Newcastle Jets, Jason Naidovski recently appeared on Nearpost
Radio.
The former Majura junior club will be back to earth with a bang when he takes on his Canberra
mates, the ACT Youth Rockets, in Sydney this arvo.
Canberra United are expected to announce their first round of signings on Friday.

ADELAIDE UNITED ANNOUNCES MATILDA AS CAPTAIN FOR WESTFIELD W-LEAGUE
Adelaide United FC has secured former Matildas representative Di Alagich as the club's Women's
League Captain in a major coup for the women's game in South Australia ahead of the inaugural
Westfield W-League.
The camera never lies, well this one did. Apologies for the shot but Grace Gill pictured here with
Christine Ng and Doug Gibbs in the background is looking a little bit concerned about the initial
question from the Awesome Foursome on this weeks Nearpost Radio show.
But Grace soon had us running round in circles as the talented defender swotted us away like flies.
Kyah Simon and Emily Van Egmond score for Australia....
"It was a much better performance today. The score was 3-3 which isn't much different to the
other day (Young Matildas lost 4-3 on Wednesday) but the quality of play was much better today.
Kyah Simon (2) and Emily Van Egmond scored the goals, but we dominated for maybe 70% of play today.
While the US' Women's Pro Soccer league has enjoyed a relatively high-profile launch, Australia has
quietly been laying the groundwork for a professional national women's league of their own. The
W-league will commence playing in October, with eight teams including the female sides of seven
established A-League clubs plus brand new entity Canberra United.
Canberra's Nick Schlie is representing Australia at the World Deaf Cup 2008 in Patras, Greece.
Australia are drawn against Russia, Thailand and open today against Turkey.
Ned Zelic, Carl Valeri, Joe Simunic, Peter Buljan, Lindsay Wilson and others, and our A-League
Five, Kaz Patafta, Shaun Ontong, Nikolai Topor-Stanley, Adam Casey, and Matty Kemp.. all are
professional footballers from Canberra but do we produce enough?
We've got thousands playing at junior level and there is no reason to think this will change.

Extended interview with Canberra United W-League Coach Robbie Hooker talks about his new role.
Belconnen United thrashed Canberra FC 4-1 in the ACT men's Grand Final today and Belwest Foxes beat
hot favourites Weston Creek 1-0 in the Women's final.
Belconnen United hadn't beaten Canberra FC in living memory or so it seemed despite these two side
being the best clubs for a number of years in the local game.
Nationally we talk to Tom Sermanni on the upcoming W-League, and AIS Under 20 Coach Jan Versleijen
on his hunt for overseas players.
Locally Russ Gibbs, Chris Gottaas and Aaron Walker talk to Canberra United signing Grace Gill and

Wannabee's Matildas flocked to show their skills to World Cup hero Caitlin Munoz and Asian Cup star
Amy Chapman on a cold Friday night at Dickson Oval.
The usual training session was taken by not one, but two, of Australia's star players.
Southern Cross FC are bidding to be an A-League team in 2010. Same as Canberra. And Les Murray from
SBS is an Ambassador for the bid.
Biased? Hardly...couldn't be more Canberra friendly....
SBS reported today on Les' show that Les Murray was with the bid team when they presented to the
FFA last week.
Great to hear Canberra United announce their first signings this morning. I listened to Robbie
Hooker on ABC radio this morning announced the players. And Tim Gavel got a few things wrong:)
Firstly the signings:
Caitlin Munoz, Amy Chapman. Lydia Williams and Grace Gill are all Matildas and local players who
have signed up.
A young Canberra team took on Sydney FC in a Youth League game yesterday. I know we're not in the
league...yet. But take a look at the names below....plus how quick is Kofi Danning?
How many of these lads could get a paid gig in a Canberra A-League Youth side in 2010if we get an
A-League side?
The FFA handed, on a plate, the 11th spot in the A-League to a Melbourne consortium.
Hand in your plan and you get the gig. If you're from Melbourne.
No measuring alternative plans, we want Melbourne and probably Sydney and that's it.
The rest of you, Tassie, Canberra and Wollongong can well.
Mike Cockerill has written more pieces on Wollongong's A-League chances than any other bid. Why is
this?
In fact to date he's written NOT EVEN ONE piece on the Canberra bid. Wollongong make their move
Now he tells us Wollongong are cashed up, well whoopee do. Aren't we all.
I'm more interested in the fact West Sydney are reported as having no coherent plan.

By Russ Gibbs
With only nine days until the big match with the Central Coast Mariners, the ACT Rockets held their
third training session at the AIS Football Fields on a mild, yet cool, Wednesday evening on the
18th June.
Canberra's Socceroo Nikolai Topor-Stanley comes off contract at the end of next season.
Seems like he could be off to Turkey, or possibly the more lucrative English Championship. The
Glory will want a fee, and with Topor-Stanley expected to play in the Olympics in August, he may
not move until January.
On Nearpost radio tonight, Capital Football CEO, Heather Reid, announced the name of the
"hoped for soon to be announced" National Women's team.....and it is... Canberra Spirit.
Having listened to Heather Reid on Nearpost Radio last night discussing plans for the first game in
the Westfield W-League for Canberra United in October, I'm predicting a record crowd for McKellar
Stadium. (Expected to be the venue but to be confirmed.)
With all the hype, the entertainment planned, it should be a day to remember and a great turn-out.
The potential for overseas sign-ups for the Canberra and Region A-League team is, I believe,
significant.
Overnight Razif Bahari from Singapore, left Canberra 5 years ago, only failed to sign-up as he got
an error message. But the email he sent to his friends, (see below) all ex-Canberrans, from other
countries is interesting.
Corporate, Small and Large business can now show their support for Canberra's A-League bid. They
get a Foundation Membership and their name and logo on the website. So why not encourage your
favourite small business to sign up. They can keep the membership, donate it to charity or an
employee whatever they like.
Ivan has sent a message to Foundation Message. I'm one so I got the email. But the update is in
full below.
Dear Foundation Member
Wow! What an amazing few weeks we have had in regards to the A-League4Canberra bid. Firstly I must
say thank you for signing up to become a Foundation Member, we are certainly on our way to
achieving the goal of bringing an A-League team to Canberra.
W-League is coming even if things have gone a tad quiet. I'm expecting the TV Deal with the ABC to
be announced next Thursday...and..
in Canberra I'm expecting the Coach to be announced next week.
There have been a number of applicants, interviews were held last week, so an announcement any day
soon.
You would think if you play Premier League/ Reserve/Pathway football and ACTAS, Capital Football
Academy that you are very into your football and the development of the game and opportunities of
the game in Canberra.
Training and playing what 3 or 4 nights a week. That's commitment isn't it?
Melbourne's Brazilian Ney Fabiano is out for nine weeks after being found guilty of spitting in the
game last week.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xkT6xyAUo-0 Did he spit? Well treefellas's met last night including
Canberra's own Danny Moulis to adjudicate. We assume they got it right. but the Fox video seems
inconclusive.
Having attended last nights Canberra A-League committee meeting I can tell you things are moving
along at an impressive rate.
I can also tell you we are in the fight of our lives and, I believe, only the people of Canberra
can secure this team.
Melbourne hae been handed a second spot for 2010.
Rumours abound. I want a house in Sydney, and so does the prospective new Dutch AIS Coach.
The AIS look set to appoint an overseas coach, if you believe the pitchside talk, yes he's Dutch.
No surprise there.
Previous AIS Coach Steve O'Connor was on somewhere around $100,000. The new position was advertised
at $200,000.
Gary Phillips Coach of the Newcastle Jets W-League side will be on the Nearpost show tonight along
with 442 Editor Paul Hansford.
Gary Phillips is also Coach of the Under 17 National Women's team which lost to an older Japan side
4-3 in Canberra yesterday.
Phillips was delighted with the result particularly pleased with stand-out performances from Nicola
Bolger and Emily Van Egmond.
Young Matildas lost 4-3 today to Japan Under 19's, but in other local news the Coach of Canberra
United will be announced on Friday morning.
Just to inform you I've been officially appointed as the Canberra A-League bid Media Liason
Officer/Committe member. You heard it here first:)
More importantly here's the most up-to-date news on the bid...more money rolls in.
FFA chief commercial officer John O'Sullivan spoke to Ivan Slavich yesterday.
Another day another article on Canberra's Kaz Patafta. This time it's 442 discussing what Kaz needs
to do.
Kaz, of course is well known and respected throughout Canberra fooball. He Captained the Under 17's
at the World Cup a few years ago and was outstanding and a joy to watch.
Matildas are in Camp from Thursday this week at the AIS. Training sessions are open for anyone to
observe.
And expect the W-League fixtures to be announced this week, on Friday. Canberra United will be away
first game if my tea leaves are correct...and probably even if they aren't. With their first home
game pencilled in for the first weekend in November.
Capital Punishment the Canberra A-League Supporters Group are aiming to make their first outing and
flying the flag at a Sydney FC game.
You can join here. There will be family buses, club buses and one for the lads I'm told.
Adelaide United fans celebrate last nights historic win. But how many people will turn-up for the
Semi Final, they're already talking about switching venues to cope with the crowd...
And whilst Australia and particularly Canberra has been slow to grasp the opportunities that Asia
can provide to football, to the city and the region; our own A-League side would benefit the
city/region like no other sport.
The Mariners are coming to look at Canberra's Youth, but they face a fight from former AIS Coach and now Sydney FC Youth Coach, Steve O'Connor.
O'Connor is rumoured to be on the hunt for a number of Canberrans currently at the AIS and playing in Canberra.
We know Kofi Danning has already been asked, but there could be a few more Canberra lads.
The saying in football "you're only as good as your last game," means Caitlin Munoz and
Amy Chapman are pretty good. Australia 1 Brazil 0 was the Matildas last game!
Matildas stars Caitlin Munoz and Amy Chapman take time out for a photo with Alexandra Cook,
Matildas fan and Majura Soccer Club junior, after their Nearpost radio performances this week.
