Despite both sides having punched their tickets to the 2012 London Olympics, bragging rights and
a No. 1 seed were on the line when the United States Women clashed with Canada last night.
Thanks to the continued brilliance of Abby Wambach and young gun Alex Morgan, the United States
trotted out a 4-0 victory to cap off what has largely been a pedestrian Olympic Qualifying.
Can-Am Connection - not Nut-Can Connection
PYRAMID
TOURNAMENTA day after getting all kinds of pun-related gifts, one of our faves was pulled out from under us
like a rug covered in health supplements. The Nutrilife Canadian Championship, or as we so lovingly
called it - "The NutCan" - is no more.
Toronto FC Might Be Looking To Trade No. 4 Pick; Would Sounders Be Interested?
It's tough to say how much stock to put in this kind of rumor, but Canadian Soccer News is
apparently hearing that Toronto FC wants to trade out of the No. 4 spot. They have limited cap
space and are looking mainly for allocation.
Major League Soccer will release the full schedule tomorrow at 1:00 PM CST but a couple of
different outlets have combined to give us a picture of 10 of the 34 MLS Regular Season games. The
bulk of this information comes from the Chicago Fire front office sending out a sneak peak E-mail
this afternoon that included the 'Significant Six': six top games to amp up the excitement.

Philadelphia Union
A leaked copy of Toronto FC's 2012 schedule obtained by Canadian Soccer News shows the Union
traveling to BMO Field on May 26 and Sept. 15, with the Canadian team at PPL Park on July 7. This
unbalanced schedule thing is gonna take some getting used to.
The Philadelphia Union will travel to Toronto in May and September and host Toronto FC in July,
according to Canadian Soccer News, during the 2012 MLS regular season. The Canadian news outlet got
a hold of TFC's 2012 MLS schedule ahead of the league's official release of each team's schedule
and it shows that the Canadian club is one of the Union's standard three game Eastern Conference
opponents this upcoming season.
It sounds like we won't have to wait much longer for the 2012 MLS schedule to come out. It seems
that the league has the schedule finalized and will be putting it out hopefully later this week. KC
is set to have their home opener on March 17th, St. Patrick's Day, other than that, the schedule
isn't really known.
You can never find FC Dallas on these damn Mayan calendars!Considering it's
apparently our last year on the planet, people are surprisingly making plans for the next few
months. According to the good and diligent folks over at the great Canadian Soccer News - this
includes Toronto FC. With Major League Soccer preparing to officially release the schedules soon, a
leaked version of SIXual Healing has found it's way online.
The ever diligent folks at Canadian Soccer News managed to get their hands on a leaked copy of
Toronto FC's schedule. While that is all fine and good, there's a nice little nugget in there even
if you only care about the Seattle Sounders' 2012 schedule: TFC will not be playing on First Kick
weekend.
Remember when, in the wake of a guy who posted a video himself screaming "nigger" at a Revs
player who had scored on a penalty kick in the dying minutes of a game at Columbus Crew Stadium,
MLS Rumors claimed Columbus Crew supporters chanted things like "Sieg Heil," "White Power" and
branded their groups with fascist symbols?
The Montreal Impact (French: Impact de Montréal) is a Canadian professional soccer club based in
Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Founded in 1992, the team will move from the North American Soccer League
(NASL) to Major League Soccer (MLS) starting with the 2012 season. A longtime powerhouse in
Canadian soccer with seven Voyageurs Cup / Canadian Championship [.

The field competing for CONCACAF's spots at the 2012 Summer Olympics is officially set.
Trinidad & Tobago and Cuba each recorded the results they needed Monday night to advance out of
Caribbean qualifying and earn the final two spots in the 2012 CONCACAF Pre-Olympic Tournament.

CHESTER, Pa. - It wasn't pretty, and it certainly wasn't impressive. But it was good enough, at
least for now.
Behind a goal from Sebastien Le Toux, the Philadelphia Union tied Toronto FC, 1-1, in front of a
record crowd at PPL Park.

Different coach, same old inconsistency.
That was the story Tuesday night as Argentina slumped to a 1-0 defeat away to Venezuela in the
second round of 2014 World Cup qualifying in South America. Despite replacing coach Sergio Batista
after a poor performance at the 2011 Copa America, Argentina once again struggled against a lesser
opponent under new coach Alejandro Sabella.

Last summer, Uruguay shocked the world by advancing all the way to the semifinals of the 2010
World Cup. On Friday, they started their path to the next World Cup in style.
Uruguay, which also won the 2011 Copa America this summer, opened their 2014 World Cup
qualifying campaign in CONMEBOL with a 4-2 win over Bolivia.

Canada's quest to qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup has started off in fine fashion.
After beating St. Lucia convincingly on Friday, the Canadians topped Puerto Rico by a 3-0
scoreline on the road behind goals from Iain Hume, Simeon Jackson and Tossaint Ricketts to take
early control of Group D on Tuesday.
North American Soccer Almanac
In case anybody was curious, MLS has put together an "almanac" on American and Canadian soccer
along with some nice infographics and lists.
The reason why I put almanac in quotations was because it's not very good yet. Also the name
doesn't include any other league or information stats from other nations in North America.
The fourth match of the 2011 World Football Challenge took place in Vancouver on Monday night,
and though the Vancouver Whitecaps gave their fans hope of a win, it was Manchester City that wound
up victorious.
Manchester City defeated the Whitecaps 2-1 on goals from John Guidetti and Shaun Wright-Phillips
in the second half.
The Canadian soccer writing landscape has exploded over the last few years. It almost feels
redundant to write this, but the number of Canadian soccer sources now available on the web is
truly remarkable.
I don't want to get in a long-winded breakdown of the "history" of online soccer coverage in
Canada, but suffice it to say, before the internet there were one or two newspaper reporters who
owned the soccer beat, and even then, coverage was sparse.

In honour of the royal visitors Kate and whoseewotsits, this has been an annus horribilis
for Canadian soccer.
Our two MLS franchises are stumbling through their respective league seasons. The Canadian national
teams crashed in out in the group stages of the U17 World Cup, the Gold Cup, and after today's 4-0
loss to France, almost certainly the Women's World Cup in Germany.

Nick Soolsma lined up his penalty kick in the 53rd minute and beat Vancouver goalkeeper Jay
Nolly to Soolsma's right for a goal.
It didn't count. Joao Plata was called for encroachment, necessitating a re-kick.
Unfazed, Soolsma went left from the spot this time in the 54th minute, and the ball got by Nolly
again.
Great news for Kara Lang, who only six months ago announced her unfortunate early retirement from
football. She'll be joining the Sportsnet crew for the FWWC. Just two wishes please:
1) Let her speak. She's whip smart on the game and the present state of Canadian soccer, and she'd
be a good candidate for a De Vos-esque column on the Sportsnet site.
I know. I missed a few things.
Mostly the launch of the Blizzard, what that meant for football blogging and whether it heralded a
new page in football journalism, which I hope to talk about in the coming days.
As I hope you've been aware, I've been writing daily posts for The Score's Footy Blog, which has
been an incredibly useful discipline.
It's been a fairly eventful week for the Sounders; a disappointing draw at home to the Vancouver
Whitecaps, the end of the trials of Cillian Sheridan and Myron Samuel, the beginning of the trial
of Sammy Ochoa and the beginning of (credible) big-name transfer rumors.
We'd also hoped to have an interview with Ben Rycroft of Canadian Soccer News and It's Called
Football, but the technology demons got in the way.
The Ottawa NASL rumors have been floating for months. Now word out of Canada and the US is that
Ottawa will be announced as the newest NASL team which would start play in 2013. The announcement
will come some time next week.
On the most recent Miami Ultra's podcast called Miami Ultra's Alive, hosted by Pieter Brown and
Uncle Ed, guest Tim Robbie, president of the Fort Lauderdale Strikers mentioned let slip that
Ottawa will indeed be joining the NASL for 2013.

The Canadian men's national team's Gold Cup began with a goal conceded due to shaky goalkeeping,
and it ended the same way.
Goalkeeper Milan Borjan couldn't control Blas Perez' rebound attempt on the goal line, and Luis
Tejada got the final touch to score in the waning moments of the clubs' Group C finale, which ended
in a 1-1 draw at Livestrong Sporting Park.
The New England Revolution are set to welcome the Reds of Toronto FC to Foxboro on Wednesday
night for their second match in just four days. New England is coming off an improved but
disappointing performance in New York on Saturday that saw them snap their 600+ minute scoreless
streak from open play but still lose 2-1 after fluffing several gilt-edged scoring chances.
Is this the week Fredy Montero returns to the starting lineup? We certainly hope so. The Seattle
Sounders Designated Player has started on the bench the past two matches and has played reasonably
well in a reserve role. The Vancouver Whitecaps seem like the perfect team for him to get into some
kind of groove with Mike Fucito.
The U.S. men's national team begins its quest to regain the CONCACAF Gold Cup with a Group C
opening match against Canada at Ford Field tonight (8pm, Fox Soccer Channel).
The Americans have struggled to get results in friendlies this year, but comes into the Gold Cup
with a dominating track record in Gold Cup group play, having never lost a match.
The United States and Canada face off tonight (8pm, Fox Soccer Channel) in their opening matches of
the 2011 Gold Cup and the excitement surrounding the match is building.
The Americans come in as Gold Cup co-favorites with Mexico, and have never lost a Gold Cup group
stage match.

The United States opens its Gold Cup run in a few hours against North American foe Canada, as
the two meet for the first time since a controversial matchup in the 2007 Gold Cup semifinals.
The tournament is of great importance not only to the national team, but also to its fans, who
have been waiting patiently since last summer's World Cup for the USMNT to play in meaningful games
with something on the line.
Okay, finish up your last gulp of paella.
US fans should pray the Yanks start imposing their will on CONCACAF Tuesday...
The US has left its Spain debacle in the rearview mirror as it looks to secure a spot in the
2013 Conferederation Cup through a championship win in this year's CONCACAF Gold Cup.

In its final tune-up before its Gold Cup opener against the United States, Canada tied Ecuador,
but it did so in controversial fashion.
Trailing 2-1 in injury time, Canada equalized through a goal from Tosaint Ricketts while several
Ecuadorian players were busy arguing a foul call with the referee.
Support Local Soccer
IMS friends Ben Rycroft and Duane Rollins from Canadian Soccer News had this piece on the CSN
site the other day.
This is a really nice video that was put together at a local bar in Toronto called the Football
Factory. I think Canadians should be behind their team.
Canadian Soccer Association officials have deemed the surface at BMO Field unplayable, and the
second leg of the Canadian championship between Toronto FC and the Vancouver Whitecaps has been
rescheduled for July 2.
Vancouver held a 1-0 lead in the 60th minute of Wednesday night's second leg, but torrential
downpours and repeated lightning forced the game to be abandoned.

The Vancouver Whitecaps are 30 minutes away from their first piece of hardware since becoming an
MLS franchise.
They'll have to wait until Thursday morning at 11 a.m., EST, to play those 30 minutes, however,
according to a bulletin from Rogers Sportsnet, which aired the match in Canada.
STARTERSBen Rycroft of Canadian Soccer News brings us a great inspirational video, and an ethos I firmly
believe: Support Local Soccer
-There is a funny part in there where a guy from Toronto begs you to love your local team, all the
while wearing a Boston Red Sox baseball hat.
