Hey everybody, wanted to pass along a few bits of MLS news before Friday comes to a close and
the weekend really gets going. Two pretty big names in North American soccer made the move from
Europe to MLS today as U.S. National Team defender Heath Pearce joined FC Dallas and Canadian
National Team star midfielder Julian DeGuzman -- formerly of La Liga's Deportivo La Coruña --
returned to his hometown to join Toronto FC as the club's first ever Designated Player.

I had the honor of being a guest on the outstanding Canadian based show, It's Called Football.
You know the cast of characters involved in the program well if you follow MLS north of the border,
so without further adieu here is the link.

Neither Gina Pacheco or Bahar Sansar saw action in Canada's 1-0 loss Wednesday night to the USA in
a friendly held in Charleston, South Carolina. Both USF players are veterans of the Canadian youth

substitute appearance.

It was one of the worst penalty calls I've ever seen, but it condemned Canada to a 1-0 loss to
Honduras in Philadelphia in the quarterfinals of the Gold Cup. I suppose we could look at the
bright side though...Ali Gerba will be here for Columbus, and, who knows - Julian De Guzman might
be as well, right?

Last night, Canada wrapped up its group stage matches at the Gold Cup in Miami, Florida. A 2-2 draw
against Costa Rica gave the Canucks top spot in Group A, after two previous victories over Jamaica
and El Salvador.
Stephen Hart rested a number of our key players last night, including Julian De Guzman, Ali Gerba,
Dejan Jakovic, Paul Stalteri, and Atiba Hutchinson.

In what I hope will become a regular occurrence for us, Ali Gerba scored a wonderful half-volley
last night to give us Canucks a 1-0 win over the Reggae Boys of Jamaica. Former Toronto goalkeeper
Greg Sutton played well in goal for Canada, making several key saves to keep us in it. To be fair
to Jamaica, they deserved something from the match.

According to CanadaSoccer.com, we're only going to be missing two players during the Gold Cup. None
of Dwayne De Rosario, Adrian Serioux, or Nana Attakora are included in Stephen Hart's side, but
Kevin Harmse and Ali Gerba are.
Looks like it was club over country for DeRo and Serioux.

Guzman, one of the stars of the Canadian national team, did not have the greatest of campaigns. He
only saw action in twenty league matches.
Stats to follow -- 17 games started, 3 substitutions, 0 goals, 0 assists, 18 shots, 3 shots on

Over the past few days, there has been some pretty significant news that has come out within the
Canadian soccer scene.
The first is that Joey Saputo has finally pulled his head out of his ass gotten serious about
bringing an MLS franchise to Montréal. I hate the Impact, but I'm a huge fan of Montréal in MLS.
