So, that's what a victory tastes like. After five games without a win and four without a goal
the Bialo Czerwoni finally managed to defeat their opponents, though we had to wait for a game
against the mighty Canada for them to do that. Mind you, what I find more important is that two 20
year olds, Maciej Rybus and Maciej Sadlok, showed some national team promise.

Major League Soccer commissioner Don Garber appears ready for a work stoppage,
should talks with the players' union not lead to a new deal by the Jan. 31 deadline. Speaking on a
conference call with reporters Nov. 16 as part of his annual State of the League address, Garber
said the league was not willing to yield on any of the principles that it felt had driven its
growth the past 14 years.

There's been an interesting exchange on the Canadian soccer front, with Jason de Vos and Paul James
both writing articles about Canadian players who have chosen to play for other national teams, and
Duane Rollins responding in kind.
While this might get me into all sorts of trouble, my own view is that while I am sympathetic to
those who are angry at players like Begovic and Lensky for switching national allegiances at this
late stage, and for misleading Canada fans over their intended decision, I have trouble accepting
that they should play for Canada "no matter what," as in "no matter if the CSA actively supports
both them and the national program in a meaningful way or not.

I've always said that one of the realistic options for the disaffected USL owners was to leave and
then just setup their own league away from the USL umbrella. Today, that appears to be what has
happened, with everyone bailing on Francisco Marcos and the USL. I have not been following this all
that closely, but where does this leave Portland, who has one more year to go before they join MLS.

With a couple of upcoming Friendlies (Macedonia on Nov 14 & Poland on Nov 18), and with a break
in my Masters happening right now (oh, how convenient), I finally have chance to to write a proper
blog post that isn't a summary of my Twitter stories.
Yeah a lot has happened lately. First Begovic, then Jacob Lensky (and thank you, Stephen Hart,
for publicly expressing your disappointment).

Perhaps not remembering what happened to Duane the last time someone wanted to move the Columbus
Crew, Jason Davis over at MatchFit USA decides he wants to take a crack at getting rid of the team
everyone loves to hate now that they win a lot.
Last night, only 10,109 could be bothered to watch the men in yellow go down to Real
Salt Lake.

Could you imagine Marvel Wynne or O'Brien White getting racially abused in the BMO parking lot by a
Toronto FC supporter? Not that I'm of the whole "there's no racism here, we live under Pierre
Trudeau's beautiful multicultural rainbow where nothing ever goes wrong" school of Canadian self
back-slappery, but let's just say if it happened, I suspect you would get headlines in every single
national daily, weeks of op-eds about how racism persists in Canada, and anti-racist tifos in the
south end that would make Dichio's tribute look like a bit of tissue paper.

cool parents who would let him have wine at dinner.

The traditional after match soccer handshake will be banned in minor league soccer games
throughout Canada for fear of spreading the H1N1 virus. The move was decided by league members who
have said that everyone needs to do more to stop the spread of the swine flu virus. The flu is
spread from infected people to others through handshakes, fluids or air.

With J Hutcherson -- The United States National Team's involvement in the Under-20 World Cup kicks
off on Saturday in Suez, Egypt (10am - ESPN Classic/Galavision) minus the associated hype we saw
last time around in Canada. Blame it on relative proximity and a lineup not dominated by players on
the short list to be the next big thing in Major League Soccer.

With this winter quickly approaching now that we are in the fall season it seems only fitting to
really start the discussion on what will certainly be the number one topic all off season in Major
League Soccer, the CBA negotiations. The big one comes down to the great wage debate.
I bring it up today because of a link I found late last night over on one of my favorite sites,
Pitch Invasion.

First came Toronto FC, then Vancouver Whitecaps got an expansion team and now Montreal L' Beckhams
are trying to join MLS. Throw in further interest from Ottawa and Major League Soccer has a sudden
influx of Canadiana! Don't tell our friends to the south that a whole list of possible expansion
clubs are lining up as we speak.

With J Hutcherson -- For all the knocks he's taken for the frequency of moves Toronto has made in a
relatively short time, manager - but not coach - Mo Johnston doesn't seem overly bothered. How else
to explain spending designated player money on a primarily defensive midfielder? Julian de Guzman
suiting up for Toronto is a very big deal.

other twice. The League also announced that no League games will be played during the World Cup
group stage, semifinals, or final. "The decision to stop League play during the group phase of the
2010 FIFA World Cup is part of MLS' commitment to deepen its connection with the millions of soccer
