According to reports in Football Italia, Juventus 'ultras' (i.e. the hard-line,
bordering on hooligan, faction of the club's supporters) have threatened to make the next year of
Juve midfielder Mauro Camoranesi's life a living hell if he decides to
stay at the club.
scelte in casa dell'Italia.
Mondiale.
The Old Lady of Italian football was humiliated 0-3 by struggling Udinese this weekend, making it
12 losses and 47 goals against in 32 serie A matches this season. After this latest embarrassment,
the formerly powerful and prestigious Juventus FC apologized to millions of fans and began a
'silenzio stampa' (no media interviews until further notice).
The 2010 World Cup is coming fast, and the time has come where provisional squads are being
announced from countries in the tournament. The FIGC (Federazione Italiana Giouco Calcio) or the
Italian FA has revealed the 30-man provisional squad chosen by Marcello Lippi.
Here are all 30 players in their positions and the clubs they play for:
Goalkeepers: Buffon (Juventus), De Sanctis (Napoli), Marchetti (Cagliari), Sirigu
(Palermo)
Defenders: Bocchetti (Genoa), Bonucci (Bari), Cannavaro (Juventus), Cassani
(Palermo), Chiellini (Juventus), Criscito (Genoa), Grosso (Juventus), Maggio (Napoli), Zambrotta

After the madness and midweek distraction of the World Cup preliminary squad list, it's back to

Since Italy are the current World Cup holders, we thought their 2010 team portraits were worthy
of a Kickette critique. Unfortunately, the squad shots that follow below were not nearly as hot as
the above free standing/sitting footballers.
Dirty Tactics?Well today the Azzuri just lost one potential fan in myself. Along with any other
person who enjoys clean and fair football. I won't even talk about the great performance Paraguay
put on because it was overshadowed by the poor character of the Italians. To start the match De
Rossi went on a total dive.
Italy managed to draw 1-1 against both Paraguay and New Zealand while failing to impress despite
having seen a lot in terms of ball possession, in particular against the Kiwis when the Italians
had just over 70% in terms of ball possession. Pundits and fans alike are debating what has gone
wrong for the Azzurri in South Africa 2010 with some attributing it to the Italian tendency to
start slow referencing Spain 1982, USA 1994 and even Germany 2006.
Commendatore Marcelo Lippi faces his sternest test
Disunity. A common theme which emerges from European teams that are struggling in the World Cup.
France is the bench mark. But England with the John Terry coup nipped in the bud provided rumblings
of a similar kind.
Add Italy to the list as Marcelo Lippi struggles to find an answer to his ailing team.
10.08.2010 - Calígula - Mauro Camoranesi debe pagar u$s 50.000

Brum boss Alex McLeish has pulled out of a deal to sign Argentinean born Italy international,
Mauro Camoranesi. The 33-year-old Juventus winger was thought to be close to signing on at St.
Andrews, but after a small delay in contact McLeish backed out.
The former Scotland manager admitted "I have always been a big admirer (of Camoranesi) but
negotiations became protracted and I had a further think.
Appointing young, relatively inexperienced but high profile coaches seems to be in the in thing
at the moment. This is perhaps inspired by the success of Pep Guardiola at Barca. Under his
leadership the club have swept all before them in recent years. But this tactic hasn't worked in
all cases and last weekend's clash at the San Siro was a prime example of how things can go
wrong.

Italy coach Marcello Lippi has picked 29 players for training this week but did not include any
players from Roma or Inter who will be contesting the Coppa Italia final. Serie A leaders Inter
will probably not have any member in the Azzurri squad headed to South Africa 2010 considering
Davide Santon is injured while Mario Balotelli has not impressed Lippi with his unprofessional
approach and mistakes.
Mauro Camoranesi is moving on in the summer. After 8 seasons and 287 appearances the Argentinian
winger is looking for a new club as Juventus looks to purge house. The Old Lady is very confident
that Rafa Benitez will be part of that revolution.
A host of players are expected to depart. The biggest name is Gianluigi Buffon who now sees the
Premiership as a destination.

Juventus duo Mauro Camoranesi and David Trezeguet are linked with a moved to Argentine giant River
Plate. Los Millonarios are facing one of the worst negative streaks in the history of the club, and
the only solution will be to bring high profile players, including Camoranesi and Trezeguet.
With only two games left in the season, Angel Cappa has a clear idea in mind of what he wants his
squad to look like next season. He has asked the board for four reinforcements for next season,
including one goalkeeper, a defender, a central midfielder and a center forward.
He has asked the board to also extend Ariel Ortega's contract, however he has put in doubt the
continuity of Marcelo Gallardo and Matias Almeyda; The 36 year old and current captain of the squad
is a fan favorite and one of the most regular players in the squad.
Juventus finished their abysmal campaign with another humiliating defeat as they were brushed
aside by a rampant Milan side 3-0 at the San Siro. The hosts did not do anything extraordinary but
rather the visiting Bianconeri once again were deflated after conceding a goal first.
As has become habit during this season the Juve players dropped their heads after conceding a
goal and were not able to mount a comeback.
Sudafrica.
Giuseppe Rossi, an American-born striker who currently plays for Villarreal, abandoned the
chance to play for the United States national team and landed a spot on the Italian national
team... or so he thought.
Italian coach Marcello Lippi sent Rossi packing after announcing his 23-man roster that will
take the pitch next week in South Africa for World Cup 2010.
Until this morning, Italy was one of three teams, along with England and Germany, to have an
entirely home-based squad. Then Fabio Cannavaro ruined the narrative at least through the group
stages, when he'll still be under Juventus contract and signed for Dubai side Al Ahli, in turn
taking his career into the sun.
Injuries are a part of every sport and, yes, that even includes soccer.
It is a common misconception that footballers can't really get seriously hurt. With one of the
longest schedules in duration along with hard tackles left and right and the general battle to
win the ball, (plus did I mention the general wear and tear of a eight to nine month long
season) injuries are more then prevelant in the world's most beautiful game.
Probably one of the most exciting matches of this World Cup so far, both teams went for it, looking
for goals as they both attacked providing an unseen spectacle so far.
Italy - Paraguay
The match started with a bit of apprehension from both sides, but they eventually started to create
chances, Paraguay had one of the best in the first half, working their way with Torres right
outside the 18 with the ball on his foot and Buffon out of position, but his shot was
disappointing.
We have seen the world champions be stumped not once, but twice. First against Paraguay, and now
against New Zealand, Italy are just unable to find a win. But Paraguay go on to take the lead in
the group after defeating Slovakia 2-0.
Here's how Group F stands after these two results:
Paraguay (4)
Italy (2)
New Zealand (2)
Slovakia (1)
Italy - New Zealand
A match which the reigning World Cup champions really would've wanted to win, but instead, they put
themselves in a bad position just 7 minutes in conceding from a free kick.
The Ka Mate of the All Whites are striking terror into the opposition
Do you remember Brandi Chastain's condescension after the US Women's team demolished the Kiwis,
4-0 in the Beijing Olympics.
"We have to remember. New Zealand is a small island in the middle of the ocean, so they
don't get a lot of games.
I love results like this. A 1-1 draw with Italy is a massive massive victory for New Zealand,
easily their best ever result in international football, I think. It's the sort of result that
should help grow the sport of soccer in New Zealand, where it currently lives in the long and
muscular shadow of rugby union.
What with one thing and another I've fallen a bit behind in my crazy quest to watch more or less
all of the World Cup. But I'm more or less up to date with Groups F and G, so...
Group F
If New Zealand snatching a draw with Slovakia was a surprise, their fully deserved point against
the defending champions was nothing short of a sensation.
The Azzurri performed poorly throughout the World Cup and waited till the 80th minute of the
match against Slovakia to start playing when it was too late to make a reaction to compensate for
the failures in the previous 260 minutes of football. What is most troubling is the fact the
Italian reaction was not due to team effort but rather down to a spark offered by Fabio
Quagliarella who was behind one goal and scored another.
With Italy out of the 2010 World Cup, we have plenty of time to plan for the future and avoid
any mistakes we made in this tournament. So it's important to know what Italy did wrong, the
mistakes that cost us dearly in the World Cup, making us end up last in the group, behind New
Zealand..
stagione agonistica.
