International press conferences at the best of times tend to be mundane, by the numbers affairs
filled with platitudes by the key figures within the national side. Not much changes when it comes
to conferences prior to World Cup qualifiers, or even the finals itself, but within the words
always lies a common train of thought: There are few, if any greater honours in football than
representing your country at the World Cup.

news even though we still can't access ESPN360 (Not so Comtastic after all, eh Comcast?).

United States U-20 midfielder Jared Jeffrey and his teammates are bursting with confidence
following Tuesday's emphatic 4-1 victory over Cameroon at the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
World wide world cup match days are the next best thing to the actual world cup, particularly when
we are in the last throes of the schedule. It's like a 1st round March madness day, but twice as
long. A few more tickets were punched, and a few other have the porter in the next cabin. Others
are starting to feel a little too uncomfortable.
Good weekend for the USA, as none of Argentina/France/Portugal could win.
1) In Africa, this weekend's results mean that Cameroon and Tunisia should now be considered clear
favorites to qualify. If Gabon can't beat Cameroon at home, then how they can hope to get a result
on the road? Togo let in a last second equalizer against Morocco which probably ended their hopes.
Hertha Berlin midfielder Bryan Arguez has been added to the U.S. national team roster that
will compete in the U-20 World Cup in Egypt later this month.
Arguez was summoned to replace forward Sam Garza, who will miss the tournament due to injury.
The 20-year-old will join a team that already boasts talented youngsters such as Mikkel Diskerud,
Brek Shea and Dilly Duka.

From the "Not that guy again" department comes word that the referee for the U.S. Under-20

Cameroon came into Libreville with their backs to the wall, yet they were able to come out with a
very important three points as they beat Gabon 2-0.
Cameroon International Alex Song is one of the many Arsenal youngsters who impressed in this
first part of the new season. The 21-year old declared he's satisfied with his season so far and is
ready to show manager Arsene Wenger he can be an important piece for the Gunners this season.
The central midfielder said:
I am more confident now and that is important to me.
Inter president Massimo Moratti has commented on the possibility of Thiago Motta
playing for Italy at the international level, claiming he "loves" the idea. The player has dual
citizenship and has already announced his desire to play for the Azzurri.
"It's always a pleasure to see one of your own players with the blue jersey on," he stated to
Inter's official website, inter.
I am glad to say it is Friday. Somehow this week has flown by me here but thankfully we have a
weekend full of soccer ahead of us here. Two games tonight, with one just about underway in New
York, and plenty more tomorrow and Sunday. Nearly every game has playoff implications surrounding
them.
The World Cup trophy is touring Egypt during the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
That's right, the U.S. U-20 National Team rebounded from their 3-0 loss to Germany Saturday with a
4-1 thrashing of Cameroon. The Nats spread the goals around, with Arguez, Taylor, Duka and Ownby
all scoring. Duka was the star of the night, however, as the #10 was involved in multiple goals and
scored on an amazing chip.
I seem to be backing up a lot of videos at the moment. Oh well, have more...It was mere consolation
against Brazil, but Argentina's Jesús Dátolo will still remember his international debut for a
very good reason.Denmark's Nicolas Bendtner shows both control and finishing against
Portugal.Venezuela's Jose Manual Rey fires our free kick fix.
The World Cup is not leaving Africa. Not for another six years at least. The only other team
that stands a chance of wining the cup is Brazil. Either way, history will be made in South Africa.
I say this with no disrespect.
Here's why. Brazil is aiming at getting their sixth title – no other team on the face of the
planet comes close to that record.
The Homeless World Cup is a life changing international football tournament. From Argentina to
Australia, South Africa to Portugal, Cameroon to Brazil, Germany to England homeless people take a
once in a lifetime opportunity to represent their country and change their lives forever. 77% of
players go on to find a home, come off drugs and alcohol, get into education, jobs, training,

The FIFA U-20 World Cup Egypt 2009 kicks off on Thursday, September 24th, 2009. Team USA will be
in the tournament once again and are grouped with Germany, Cameroon and the Korea Republic in the
first round. Here's a look at the roster for the United States team, the TV schedule for their
first round matches [.
I previewed Wednesday's Chivas USA-CD Guadalajara game Wednesday at the Rose Bowl. Read the
column here.
BTW, two Chivas USA players - Gerson Mayen and Jorge Flores - won't play because they, along
with UCLA goalkeeper Brian Perk and midfielder Michael Stevens, are in Egypt preparing for the FIFA
Under-20 World Cup that starts Thursday.

The U-20 World Cup in Egypt officially kicked off on Thursday with the hosts convincingly
defeating Trinidad and Tobago.
A first half 1-1 draw turned into a route as Egypt midfielder Hassan Hussam Arafat Abdalla's
brace led the way to a 4-1 victory over the Soca Warriors in front of the 80,000-plus in
attendance.
You are missing a barnburner. It got even better after Paraguay had star defender Ronald Huth sent
off. If you're away from a TV, here is the FIFA stream. You can also expect an update here with
extended highlights (once I find some, of course).I'll open the On tap reading room for tomorrow's
U.S. v Cameroon U-20 World Cup clash later on.
I was held up too much to post about an hour ago, and the line-ups are now out. The U.S. (who seem
to have switched to 4-4-2?) are listed by position and Cameroon by ordinal jersey number.Perk;

usual prattle.

The U.S. Under-20 national team needed a positive result in its match against Cameroon to keep
alive its hopes of reaching the second round of the Under-20 World Cup.
Well, that ended up being a great second half.
I thought I would leave todays post a little later. There have been two main responses to our
lack of action in the transfer market yesterday, the 'OH MY GOD WE ARE SCREWED' reaction, and the
'oh well there is nothing we can do about it now' reaction.
Mine is of the latter, the only player I think we needed was cover for Alex Song for if he got
injured and when he is on ACN duty with Cameroon.
Hertha Berlin midfielder Bryan Arguez has been added to the U.S. national team roster that
will compete in the U-20 World Cup in Egypt later this month, sources told SBI on Tuesday.
Arguez was summoned to replace forward Sam Garza, who will miss the tournament due to
injury.
Arsenal fans have been crying out for a defensive midfielder ever since Vieira left this despite
the fact that Vieira was not a defensive midfielder in the mould of Makelele. What Arsenal fans
have really been looking for is a player to protect the defence and to dominate the midfield.
This season Wenger has realised that to give the defence the protection they need, we need to
change formation, and we need to play 4-1-2-3.
The German U-20 national team easily defeated their American counterparts 3-0 in the first match
for both teams at the FIFA World Cup in Egypt Saturday.
The U.S. started auspiciously, with sloppy defensive errors, briefly regained their balance then
gave up a penalty kick that was easily converted by Semih Aydilek.
Current Ljungskile defender Etchu Tabe says that the US Under-20 team should have an edge over
Cameroon as the young Yanks try to rebound from Saturdays lackluster defeat against Germany.

Cameroon on Tuesday. Throw away the tape.

Well, this one was certainly much better than the last against Germany. The fabulously named
Dilly Duka's goal (0:58) was a thing of (deflected?) beauty.
