After being asked by a friend from the soccer pitch in Oakland about the LA Galaxy "trialists"
(South African midfielder Mark Haskins, Irish defender Fred Murray, and Danish-American midfielder
Jamil Fearrington) mentioned in Kyle McCarthy's article at Goal.com (click here for all the details
in the original article from June 10th), I found out from the LA Galaxy that all the "trialists"
have already left.
After a two year absence, Torquay United returned to the Football League after beating
Cambridge United 2-0 this afternoon at Wembley, in the Blue Square Conference Play-Off Final.
The game was watched by a crowd of over 35,000.
Boro confirmed today that midfielder John Martin has been released from his contract. It's a
disappointing end to Martin's career after a fantastic start which saw him an integral part of the
club's amazing start to the 2007/2008 season under Mark Stimson, particularly impressing alongside
Stuart Lewis in the Boro midfield.
It's pretty much well known that Setanta Sports are struggling financially at the moment and
according to the BBC are on the brink of collapse. Setanta apparently owe £30m to the Premier
League and have already failed to make a £3m payment to the Scottish FA for its rights to the SPL
highlights.
... but that didn't dampen the spirits of the nearly 5,000 Breakers fans who trooped to
Cambridge to see their Boston Blues defeat the St. Louis Athletica 2-0 in their home opener at
Harvard Stadium. Here are the Week 3 WPS Power Rankings by Jo-Ryan Salazar. (I'll track these
through the season on my WPS page.
Tonight is a huge night for Stevenage Borough Football Club. Tonight is the night that will more
or less determine whether the club will have the chance to play for football league status in the
play-offs. Basically what a win will do tonight is make Sunday the next 'Biggest game of the club's
history' and so on.
No, sadly not Canberra, not yet..but Burton Albion.
I was born in the Brewing Capital of the World, surrounded by Brian Clough League Champs Derby
County, European Cup winners Aston Villa, and Notts Forest, and the super Baggies of the
1980's.
Burton is just eight miles from Derby, 21 from Nottingham, 25 from Birmingham, 30 Stoke, 25
Leicester, 25 West Brom, 25 Wolves so plenty of local football around over the years.

It may seem all doom and gloom for the play-off dream now Boro have finally lost their 24 match
unbeaten run in all competitions, but with 6 games left there is still a lot to play for in the
Blue Square Premier. Graham Westley's side were beaten 4-2 at Aggborough by fellow rivals
Kidderminster. Things had [.
Stevenage will face Cambridge over two legs as they aim to make the Blue Square Premier Play-off
Final for the second time in 4 years. Although Boro were beaten at Field Mill by Mansfield,
Kidderminster's 1-0 defeat at home to Kettering confirmed that Graham Westley's side finished in
5th place with 81 points.
Mark Roberts has spoken out at the disappointment of missing out on the play-off final after
yesterday's dramatic collapse at Cambridge. Roberts, arguably Boro's best performer over the two
legs, spoke to BBC 3 Counties about the Cambridge game and added that it is imperative for the
club to finish the season on a high with a win at Wembley against York in the FA Trophy Final.
It seems very weird that Stevenage are playing in a FA Trophy Final tomorrow afternoon. Somehow
there is not the same buzz there was 2 years ago when Mark Stimson's side played Kidderminster
Harriers in the first competitive final at the new Wembley Stadium. I don't know whether it is the
fact that the stadium has lost its new 'magic' or that the main aim of the club this season has
been promotion from the Blue Square Premier.
Yup, it's Mother's Day. Hope yours is a good one, whether you're celebrating someone or being
celebrated yourself. The universe has been kind enough to send sun, a steady breeze, and cooler
temperatures hopefully making relatively pain free outdoor work a possibility for the hordes of
mothers in New Hampshire who will be out there tending gardens and planting, perhaps, Mother's Day
flowers.
There was another good result at Wembley today as local rivals Cambridge United were beaten 2-0
by Torquay United, who returned to the football league after a two year absence. The Amber Army
were the dominant force in the first half, but were not clinical enough in front of goal and were
punished 10 minutes before half-time when a Chris Hargreaves long range effort found the net.
English Conference side Cambridge United's Home Kit for the 2009-10 season has been revealed. The
new Cambridge United home shirt, manufactured by Vandanel, is an amber jersey with a black sash
running down from the left of the shirt to the bottom right. The V necked shirt also has black and
white flashes running down from the [.
German Bundesliga champions VFL Wolfsburg have unveiled their new home, away, goalkeeper and
Champions League shirts for the 2009-10 season. The new kits are made by Adidas. The home shirt (
modeled by striker Grafite in this picture), is primarily white in colour, with green stripes
running down from the collar to the right side of [.
There isn't much to talk about at the minute at Broadhall Way. Work is going on behind the
scenes to get the players fit and ready for the big kick-off on August 8th, but other than that
there is nothing to report on. That's not the case elsewhere in the Blue Square Premier.
Rushden face an uncertain future after receiving a winding up order.
Pre-Season starts in just 3 days time as Boro travel to Chemsford on Wednesday night. It's a
less high profile start to pre-season after last years visit to Gillingham. The Stevenage players
and staff have been back in training for about 2 weeks now and should be at a good fitness level
going into the first game.
Daryl McMahon finally left Stevenage Borough today joining rivals Cambridge United on a free
transfer. The Irishman has signed a contract until the end of season with the option for the U's to
extend it if he impresses while at the Trade Recruitment Stadium. It brings his 2 year spell at
Broadhall Way to an [.
Who will be playing league football next season?
Following their 17th win of the season, Burton Albion look set for automatic promotion. The
question remains on who will join them in League Football Two?
Torquay United's automatic promotion chances were dealt a cruel blow yesterday when they suffered
their first defeat in twelve games.
A big game tonight and another big win for Graham Westley's side. If only we had hit the ground
running back in August!
Stevenage have been superb since December. If the season had begun at the beginning of that
month, then Boro would be comfortable winners of the Blue Square Premier.
Stevenage will have a two goal lead to defend at the Abbey Stadium on Bank Holiday Monday.
Graham Westley's side dug deep and pulled out a fantastic second half performance to give them
the edge going into the second leg in 4 days time. Even after the sending off of Darren Murphy,
goals from Mark Roberts and a brace from Steve Morison sent Broadhall Way crazy in a thrilling
second half.
It's another year in the Blue Square Premier for Stevenage as they were knocked out of the
play-offs by Cambridge United this afternoon. Boro went into the game with a 2 goal cushion to
defend, but 2 goals from Scott Rendell and a deflected shot from Robbie Wilmott gave the U's a 3-0
win after extra time and a Wembley date against Torquay in just under two weeks time.

Morning everybody! It's looking like a good reading day here in New Hampshire, although it's
early yet!
The Bookeaters had an excellent meeting at the Exeter Inn last night, where we broke bread and
discussed The Lincolns: Portrait of a Marriage. We all loved (and most of us read) the book, and I
would highly recommend it as a portrait, not only of a marriage but of a period of time.
Not much Boro news about at the moment as everyone waits to see who is on the 'out' list at
Broadhall Way. I assume the club will announce who won't be retained in the next week or so.
It's expected that Callum Willock, Eddie Anaclet and John Martin were 3 of the 4 players that GW
said would be released or transferred.
In Wednesday night Women's Professional Soccer action, Sky Blue FC won at home while FC Gold Bride
and Boston split the points in Cambridge. Chicago 0 - Sky Blue FC 1 Rosana got the only goal of the
game in the 24th minute, scoring off a freekick from six yards out. This is Chicago's first away
loss of the season FC Gold Pride 1 - Boston 1 Christine Sinclair put the away team up in.
Last Sunday saw the Boro players begin their preparations for the season ahead just 6 weeks
after winning the FA Trophy Final at Wembley. They couldn't of planned their return to training at
a worse time with it being the hottest week of the year so far. Hardly the best conditions to get
your fitness back in?
Icelandic teenager Victor Palsson was so overawed to be playing alongside Steven Gerrard last week
he had to ask the Liverpool star if he minded him being captain of the reserves.
Palsson, 18, only joined Liverpool in January from Danish side Aarhus and looks set to be installed
as the skipper of the Anfield club's second string this season.
Cambridge United are again on the lookout for another manager after Martin Ling left his
position by mutual consent, just 9 days into the job. Cambridge released a statement at 2.00pm on
Tuesday afternoon stating irreconcilable differences between Ling and chairman George Rolls as the
reason why the former Leyton Orient manager has departed the club.

Torquay United Football Club, nicknamed the Gulls, is an English association football club based in
the seaside resort town of Torquay, Devon. They played in the Conference National in 2008–09, but

Daryl McMahon's proposed move to Cambridge is on the brink of collapse apparently after he failed a
medical. Boro's chief executive, Bob Makin confirmed earlier today that McMahon was talking to
Cambridge about a move after it was revealed yesterday by AmberArmy.net. "Daryl has been
available for some time and a number of clubs have made [.
Matches were played across the Blue Square Premier tonight and here's how they affect Boro's
position in the race for the play-offs. Table toppers Burton Albion visited crisis club Weymouth
aiming to get back to winning ways after last Thursday night's defeat away at Ebbsfleet United.
They did that in style beating the South Coast [.
After a fantastic 24 match unbeaten run it all came to a dramatic end a couple of weeks ago with
defeat at Kidderminster, however bouncing back was key and last Tuesdays impressive 2-1 win against
rivals Cambridge certainly showed that despite having injuries, suspensions and a terrible referee
we are able to compete at the top end of the table.
Stevenage's hopes of reaching the play-offs are still alive after a 2-1 win over local rivals
Cambridge United at Broadhall Way. A fantastic performance with 10 men gave Graham Westley's side
victory in a frantic encounter. The evening was made even better as fellow play-off contenders
Kidderminster could only draw 2-2 against Forest Green, narrowing the gap between 5th & 6th.
After the 4-2 defeat away at Kidderminster on Saturday, tomorrow night's game has just got that
bit bigger. If playing Cambridge at home isn't a big enough motivation for both players &
supporters anyway, it certainly will be after the weekend's result at Aggborough. Boro need to win.
Anything less and they can kiss goodbye to the Blue Square Premier play-offs for yet another
season.
Newcastle midfielder caught without train ticket Joey Barton was given a £61.20 penalty fare after
being caught on a train service from London's King's Cross to Cambridge without a ticket. The
midfielder was in possession of a piece of literature though. An onlooker told The Sun: "Given his
reputation, it was all about par for the course.
Tomorrow night's game is the next biggest game of Stevenage Borough's history. It seems like
every game at the moment just keeps getting that bit more important and the visit of Cambridge
United to Broadhall Way for the second time in the month promises to be another end to end affair.
Boro ran out 2-1 winners a few weeks ago with goals coming from Junior Mendes and Lee Boylan.
