south and mid-Essex? At the turn of the year, train companies were heavily criticised for
increasing fares way above inflation and at a time when the UK is trying to find a way out of
recession.
Rail fares in Southend and surrounding areas will either be frozen or slightly reduced in the New
Year.
Train company chiefs from National Express - which owns and runs the two lines between Liverpool
Street and Southend Victoria and the c2c service between Fenchurch Street and Shoeburyness - said
fares would stay as they were or be reduced by 0.
There's good news for New Year's Eve revellers who are planning on heading back to the Southend
area after a night out in London. c2c's last train departs at the very respectable time of 0210 on
New Year's Day.
