It's the first clean sheet of our Premiership season and it's a very comfortable win the one
registered this afternoon at the Emirates, but unfortunately, there's still a question or two which
will be asked in the coming days.
Many will ask how come Fabregas didn't celebrate the fourth goal, is it an injury or something
else?
Manchester City away from home last season was when we really hit the bottom and you would
expect to see changes and lessons learned after that.
Unfortunately, not for us. Same old players, same old mistakes, same old tactics and same old
players out of position. I wish I could say I don't know why Nicklas Bendtner, who clearly said he
hates to play on the wing and did so well as a central striker for Denmark was played on the right,
but I have the answer.
Lady luck is back, it seems. A lot of questions will be asked after last night's performance,
starting with why on earth seven, eight, maybe more highly-paid professional footballers decide to
approach a Champions League game with such an uninterested approach.
I don't know, it seemed many didn't want to travel to Belgium or maybe thought that wasting time
against such a weak team was not in their plans.
The Game
Having lost their last two away games in the Premiership, Arsene Wenger's side will be looking
to end the away negative run as they face Roy Hodgson's Fulham. And, with Chelsea losing away at
Wigan, simply put, the Gunners cannot blow such a golden chance to close the gap at the top.
With Chelsea losing away at Wigan, we simply HAD to win this afternoon and so we did. It could
have easily ended in a draw or worse if it wasn't for Vito Mannone, the Italian goalkeeper who many
including myself thought he was there just to make numbers. Instead, he played full of confidence,
excellent in leaving his goal and incredible in denying the home side.
Last week I was away for four days and the timing for my trip was spot on as of course the
Arsenal were not in action because of World Cup Qualifiers and friendlies. But, I can't say I
didn't miss anything as there was plenty going on and below I will try to provide my thoughts on
all the news on our beloved Arsenal.
The Game
Having lost 2-1 away at Manchester United, Arsenal face the other side of Manchester, Mark
Hughes' team who according to many, may as well fight for one of the top four Premiership
positions.
As for the line-ups, contrary to false rumours, captain Cesc Fabregas is fit to start but Tomas
Rosicky is only the bench for the Arsenal, joined by Eduardo.
The Game
It's the first game of Arsenal's Carling Cup campaign. As always, Arsene Wenger opts to start
with a young side although Philippe Senderos and Mikael Silvestre will provide experience at the
back. Although on the bench, Carlos Vela makes his first appearance of the season after the Gold
Cup injury and it's great news for the Gunners to have him back.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was not surprised by the impact of Mexican striker Carlos Vela on
yesterday's game against West Brom in the Carling Cup.
On Vela's performance, the Frenchman said:
When he came on straight away he made a difference because he is dangerous in his control and in
his movement.
Having taken a few weeks off to study Arsenal‘s play, I am now back to discuss the latest game
and clarify the recent fear that is tingling inside you.
Following the last two trips to Manchester, I have noticed that many of you have commented on
Arsenal's failure but on the contrary; both games showed that we were very unfortunate.
The Game
Having lost back to back games away at Manchester, Arsene Wenger's Arsenal will try to get back
to winning terms as they face Standard Liege away from home in their first Champions League group
game.
If you want, please do join the discussion in our comments section which will also be active
when the game kicks-off.
Wigan and West Brom at the Emirates, Fulham away from home, Olympiakos, Blackburn and Birmingham
again at home and then AZ away, seven games which in my opinion can say a lot about how our season
can unfold this year.
When you put Arsenal alongside those seven aforementioned clubs, you only think about one
possible outcome: a win.
The Game
Having lost their last two Premiership games, Arsenal will be looking to take full advantage of
the Emirates support to get back on winning terms. Standing on their way are Roberto Martínez's
Wigan, who, according to their manager, are ready to cause an upset against one of the so-called
"Top Four".
It's funny how the Arsenal online community seems sort of divided after yesterday's game.
Granted, a 4-0 win is always a comfortable win, but many, including myself are not entirely
satisfied. And it makes sense. I mean, when you have Van Persie missing so many chances, Fabregas
not really delivering the way he should and Diaby yet again showing how poor he can be, you can't
be all smiles.
Regular readers of my space will know how much I adore Carlos Vela and how much I love to watch
him play and also, how many times I wanted him to start last season, something which, alas, rarely
happened.
Vela and I
The first time I heard about Carlos and Arsenal was when a friend of mine, a Real Madrid fan,
was surprised to find out that the little striker who zig-zagged his way past Sergio Ramos and
Madrid's back four was actually an Arsenal player loaned out to the Spanish Liga.
Having battled past Fulham thanks to an unforgettable performance by Vito Mannone, the lads will
now resume their Champions League adventure as they face Olympiacos, the leaders in Greece.
Important is of course not to make the same mistake of last Saturday with many believing we would
have eased past Fulham by three or four goals.
The Game
Having escaped an early first game scare away at Standard Liege, the Gunners will face Greek
leaders Olympiacos in today's Champions League game. Nicklas Bendtner, Theo Walcott and Denilson,
together with Samir Nasri and Manuel Almunia are all ruled out of the game.
We're yet to complete the first month of this new season, yet I believe tomorrow's game is a key
one considering a defeat would see us trail the likes of Chelsea and/or Spurs by six points. I
understand Manchester United and especially Liverpool are also trailing the leaders and have all
the time in the world to recover, but back-to-back defeats against the two Manchester teams would
be hard to recover from.
Do you want to know what the irony is? Wednesday, April 8, 2009 was the busiest day ever here at
the Gunning Hawk. Months later, yesterday that is, we broke that record. You know why it's ironic?
That Wednesday was the day when Adebayor scored that amazing equaliser away at Villareal. Funny,
isn't it?
It's time to forget Manchester and the best way to do it is to start our official Champions
League campaign in style. By this, I'm not saying that a comfortable win tomorrow should cancel all
the problems we saw in the last two Premiership games, but it would help to ease the pain a
little.
Eduardo's ban was overturned and that's great news although I'm afraid this means we will never
see divers banned for cheating.
That phrase came natural as I was rating the players in my full-time article, trying hard to
find a reason why overpaid professional footballers decide to take a Champions League game as if it
was a training session, whilst the likes of Bendtner surely not paid like the rest and Vermaelen
who only joined months ago decided to fight from the first to the last minute.

An Arsenal side which completely dominated Olympiacos eased past the Greeks and are alone at the
top of their Champions League group in a game which could have easily ended with a much bigger
scoreline if it wasn't for Nikopolidis who produced a number of fine saves.
Twenty two shots at goal for the Gunners with Cesc Fabregas and Gael Clichy back to their best
and Robin Van Persie again crucial in front of goal.

Don't you love the Carling Cup? I adore it, the atmosphere around the Emirates is always
fantastic with everyone sort of relaxed knowing that this cup is not our major objective of the
season. Just don't say that to the young ones though, who will be full of energy and full of
determination to prove a point, just like they did last year.

After archiving the Carling Cup's third round with a smile, it's time to concentrate on the
English Premiership and a tricky away visit to Craven Cottage, a game which we lost last
season.
We of course welcome Andrey Arshavin back in the squad and considering all the wasted chances
against Wigan, it's nice to have a prolific goalscorer back in the side.
