NSC pal Bryan Zygo was using pretty good logic when he guessed that Stuart Holden's impending New
Year's Day appearance on Good Morning America meant that the U.S. midfielder would re-sign with the
Houston Dynamo. However, it appears that Holden will be making a different announcement, delaying
his decision while he auditions for Burnley manager Owan Coyle.
Everton loan item Landon Donovan has just scored his first goal in England to put the home side up
2-0 near the half hour. I'll get this clip up ASAP. The U.S. star fired home a Tim Cahill flick
lefty with help from a deflection.- Greg Seltzer
The obligatory release.I knew St. Louis would get dumped (kicks can).- Greg Seltzer
We have story/audio from the man himself, some quotes from manager Davie Moyes and the Match of the
Day reel from last night's game...Everton v Sunderlandvon brezmexri- Greg Seltzer

Regulars around here have already seen super strikes from Dempsey, Pienaar, Maccarone and Sneijder
this week, so they're not included today...Let's start off with AC Milan scissor kicker Marco
Boriello.Valencia defender Carlos Marchena goes on the attack like he means it.I have to admit that
I was wrong.
It wasn't enough in the end, but... shazam!- Greg Seltzer
Let's start this on off early and see how much I can add before closing time. I feel like this
could be a fruitful day.Let's begin with Jeremiah White, who seems to have been switched over to
Saudi team Al-Ettifaq. The club owner also owns Qatari outfit Al-Sailiya, but has apparently
decided that the American would be better suited for his Saudi crew.
We continue to look forward to next Thursday's SuperDraft by counting down the greatest late round
heists in the previous 10 editions.Unlike yesterday's Top 5 List, I confined my pool of choices to
2000 and beyond. The reason for this was that the awkward split between College and Supplemental
drafts run before the first four MLS seasons makes it difficult to compare directly to the current
This won't be heavy reading, but there's just stuff goin' on...#1 - Okay, this is the best Arsenal
v Everton extended reel for now - but I will come back here first thing in the morning to switch it
over to the Match of the Day version. Hopefully, they will also upload the analysis segment after
the highlights.
How do I know this? Because one can plainly see Mr. Stu in the 2.19 freeze frame of this Sky Sports
News clip.- Greg Seltzer
Hey, guess who dozed off at around 10 o'clock and didn't post this last night? Sorry, folks, I was
exhausted...#1 - As you probably already know by, Fulham expect injured ace Clint Dempsey to be
back before season's end, which means he should be ready to go come World Cup. In short, he won't
be going under the knife.
And here it is: we can report that Preston Zimmerman has signed on with Mainz II for the rest of
the season, with a club option to extend his stay. I'll file a proper report at S365 once I talk to
the newest 0-Fiver.- Greg Seltzer
This is just a quick pop. I'll have Who likes goals? for you here later, as well as an interview
with K.C. exec Robb Heineman about their new stadium...#1 - Bolton finally confirm it: Stuart
Holden has now picked up the Whites courtesy phone. The deal should be sealed tonight, though it
wasn't clear if this end-of-the-season pact had an option for more on it.
Don't sit so close to the awesome. You'll ruin your eyes...Let's start with Birmingham's Barry
Ferguson, who runs this two-man stunt perfectly with James McFadden. This is a double treat: after
Arjen Robben grabs our free kick salute for the week, celebration stylist Louis van Gaal goes to
work.We have a two-fer from Barcelona's Dani Alves, who tees up Xavi for a scissors kick strike

A few things seem to be jumpin' and I will gradually update this through the day. Many of our
situations to follow have wrapped up already, so I wouldn't suspect an avalanche here, but I'll see
if I can dig up a few things. We shall start slow...German outlet TorFabrik claims that both FC
Cologne and Turkish side Trabzonspor are pondering transfer offers for 'Gladbach midfielder Michael
Bradley.
Hull forward Jozy Altidore is back in training, and here he relays a bit of great news from Haiti
(among other topics). Please donate to the American Red Cross in times of catastrophe. They will
gladly transfer the benefit of your time effort, money or blood to someone in need.- Greg Seltzer
Urgh. This roller coaster weather is giving my head a case of the oogies. If that groundhog sees
his shadow next month, I'm gonna hire another varmint to slap him. In other words... that's why I
was lazy yesterday. I do still have one Top 5 List to come, and it involves food tips for the
Amsterdam trip many of you will take in March.
'Tis the season, ain't it? If I collect any more goodies, I will update (Official translation: I
will still be chasing stuff for a few hours).I have learned that Aston Villa right back Eric Lichaj
has loan interest from three Championship clubs in the lower third of the table (including,
predictably, woeful Peterborough) and could go out by this time next week.
I've simply not been mentioning food enough, that's pretty clear. I've not talked grub or dropped
AD references enough, so I'm doing both today. For those planning a trip to Amsterdam for the March
3rd USMNT friendly, or for anyone who might visit any time really, I have for you the absolute top
food deals in town.
Oh, I'm sooo full. I got too hungry from writing about food for two hours and portrayed a piggy.
There was broccoli and cauliflower stamppot with meatballs in gravy, and then chocolate caramel
cake, and now here we are with me typing this from the couch.I like food...#1 - Ladies and
gentleman, Fulham presents.
I have goodies to chase and a game of my own later, but I am working on a column for S365 for
later. For now, I'll occupy you all with some TV that won't rot your brains...We have another
skilled pitch invader, this time in Indonesia. I include 101 Great Goals' post that explains the
form of protest that makes this invasion more charming than the norm.
Man, it's easy to get rusty having not played for three weeks at age 40. I mean, I usually don't
feel my age at all. But I am now. Yeah, go ahead and laugh, suckas. You're all next and I have
Nurse Distracter. Getting "old" isn't so bad after all.Seriously, shut up...#1 - I have completed
the promised feature for S365, my Top 5 MLS Draft Days of all-time.
I think Aris FC supporters are excited to have Freddy Adu in town.- Greg Seltzer
This one will be much shorter. And yes, the Top 5'er is still coming later...#1 - Landon Donovan is
still talking. And he's still ready to bring it straight from MLS to the Prem.#2 - As you probably
already figured if you read NSC's adventures of the restaurant snoop, the Chicago Fire are set to
name erstwhile El Salvador coach Carlos de los Cobos as their head man.
Yup. The game starts at 10:00 AM ET and has been added to the Setanta USA broadcast schedule
(pregame begins at 9:30).Seeing as many of you do not have this channel and may also be snowed in
from hitting the pub, I will do a conditional Arsenal v Everton LIVE, with the heaviest updates to
come when our man Landon is in the game.

Wycombe Wanderers striker Jon-Paul Pittman bagged a classy goal just past the hour to earn his
relegation fighters a 1-all share at tabletop Leeds United. The goal was Pittman's fourth of the
league campaign, and a team joint-best seventh across all competitions. And being that it came
against Leeds, I am very confident we will see a clip of it in under two days - if not even
tonight.
And that's why you always wait 'til the weekend is done to pick barnburners...This time, we have
two absolute slugfest thrillers for your highlight viewing pleasure: Inter Milan v Siena and the
Angola v Mali wonder show that kicked off African Cup of Nations play.- Greg Seltzer
I will have Who likes goals? later on and you can expect a slightly different take on MLS
mock-SuperDrafting over at S365 when you wake up tomorrow...#1 - Like any good lil' American soccer
scribe, I have dutifully jotted down my thoughts on Landon Donovan's pretty darn good Everton
debut. For his part, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger had some very positive things to say about
Donovan's ability to
I will have your regular Video Tuesday later on, but let's get out our Hardy Boys kit and see if we
can crack The Case of the January Transfer Waters first...Clue #1: Young American defender Euan
Holden, brother of 'Nat/Bolton trialist Stuart, has just begun an audition with Danish second
flighters Vejle BK.
The glow of the tube, the buzz of the crowd...Let's kick off with Landon Donovan's post-match debut
TV hello to England. The ESPN Press Pass crew hosts Gabrielle Marcotti to weigh in on Donovan's
actual playing debut.MLS Insider Shawn Francis has a word with new NYRB general manager Erik
Soulpatch... erm, Soler.
I'm sure you've been wondering what I've been up to today. I have been busy, but nothing major to
report yet. And Bolton still doesn't seem to want to give me details about Stuart Holden, despite
the fact that everyone knows he's there. Urgh...#1 - Another quick couple of Americans Abroad notes
of note from this Wednesday night in Europe: Eddie Johnson made his Aris FC debut with 11 minutes
of a
Let me say right off the bat that I will be leaving in a few hours to play my game (hopefully much
better than I played last week!), so there will be a gap on this. However, I will be here well
before the draft kicks off at 2:00 PM ET on espn2.Of course, many of you will be at work and that's
why I'll be here to round up all the day's news, MLS or otherwise.
A new post so RSS folks know I'm back. I just walked in from my game (scored twice in the first 10
minutes, which I think qualifies as "much better than last week"), so let me get caught up and I
will unveil my first round mock-up just before the fun begins.Back in a moment...--1.39 PM ET -
From what I can see, we've had New England deal Chris Albright to NYRB for a couple of
middle-of-the-draft
The full Magillah, picks 1-64. I will have my SuperDraft day winners and losers up at S365
tomorrow, followed by a Philly Union "How've they done building from scratch so far?" take early
next week. Now watch TV, youze...- Greg Seltzer
Today, we kick off a new series leading up to World Cup 2010 that will take a video look at the
USMNT's group (and hopefully, come June, knockout) opponents well in advance. You can bet Bob
Bradley, the players and staff are busy doing their homework, so let's do ours as well. Our first
target is Algeria, who had two radically different African Nations Cup showings this week: a
stunning upset
Now that I'm 40, I can gauge my fitness level by how many joints hurt the morning after a game. I
am proud to report that only one joint is sore today. Next stop: top form (so to speak)...#1 - My
MLS SuperDraft picks & pans are up at S365. As you can see, I've not dropped my anger at the way
the league exclusiv-ized the first round broadcasting to espn2 during a weekday.
Please read the title all-Britishy, rhyme "again" with "pain".Yep, Wycombe forward Jon-Paul Pittman
has connected for his team-best sixth league goal of the campaign. It momentarily pulled the hosts
level with Charlton, but as often happens, Wanderers conceded to drop the points.I will find a clip
for this one, but League One stuff usually takes time.
