I confirmed that eons ago, first thing this morning, but have yet to get the full details. Here is
the gist, but check back for updates or perhaps some comments.Meanwhile, I'm going to go file a
missing persons report on the Sion press officer.Elsewhere, Ajax are having a little trouble
signing up AZ Alkmaar striker Mounir El Hamdaoui, meaning Jozy Altidore could still be in the
picture for them.
Hull forward Jozy Altidore has fired home a Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink knockdown from just above
the area to open his English account and put the hosts up 1-0 on Man City close to the half hour.-

Yup, Freddinho has lit the lamp just before halftime to put Aris FC up 2-1 on visiting Ergotelis.
Much love goes out to an NSC pal, all-star BigSoccer poster Johan Derksen, for capping this clip.-

This was a really tough one, with so many variables and possible reality branches to come. But this
is why they pay me the meager bucks: to make the tough decisions. Ahem.I've factored in everything
that could possibly come to mind - age, potential ceilings, high-level skills, injury histories,
mental make-up, international game evolution, positions and those of need for the USMNT four years
plus
NSC pal Bryan Zygo was using pretty good logic when he guessed that Stuart Holden's impending New
Year's Day appearance on Good Morning America meant that the U.S. midfielder would re-sign with the
Houston Dynamo. However, it appears that Holden will be making a different announcement, delaying
his decision while he auditions for Burnley manager Owan Coyle.
Everton loan item Landon Donovan has just scored his first goal in England to put the home side up
2-0 near the half hour. I'll get this clip up ASAP. The U.S. star fired home a Tim Cahill flick
lefty with help from a deflection.- Greg Seltzer
So I was one game early on my prediction... Bolton winter catch Stuart Holden is in the line-up at
White Hart Lane for a fifth round FA Cup replay. He's playing the middle, at least from the start.I
will be popping in with periodic game updates at the S365 Twitter. I will return here later with
clips of any Holden goal involvement, then finally the highlight reel.
Just ask Hamilton. Watch Mo Edu run behind the entire play, from the right side to the left...

[Photo: Villarreal]It had been three days short of two years since Jozy Altidore last scored a
competitive match goal for Villareal until he supplied their marker in a 1-1 Copa del Rey first leg
draw at Poli Ejido on Wednesday night.- Greg Seltzer
Is there anything else to say?- Greg Seltzer
MLS commish Don Garber made a couple new headlines yesterday. After talking up the arrival of more
stars to the league, he then offered what seemed to be a vague threat over the D.C. United stadium
mire.- Greg Seltzer
The obligatory release.I knew St. Louis would get dumped (kicks can).- Greg Seltzer
Yup. About 7-9 of these 30 names will not be in uniform when the USMNT invade Amsterdam. And for
those headed over for this one, I will send out another mailing to our NSC list today. Sorry to be
slightly tardy, but I've mostly slept the last two days, fighting off something. It looks like we
are going to have some fine folks hangin' out on gameday.
And it was the first time he did so. We talk so much about what's his face lately, Everton keeper
Tim Howard gets forgotten a little. Well, today he helped the Toffees topple defending champs
Manchester United at home for the fist time in nearly five years. It was a 3-1 final, I will have
highlights here ASAP and I will switch them for better until we reach Match of the Day-land in the
Yup, Aris FC loan item Freddy Adu has now scored in two straight after a nice volley redirection of
a right wing cross put his side up 2-0 on Greek Cup guests Xanthi in the 23rd minute. The game is
now approaching halftime, so perhaps we could have a scoring update.Of course, I'll get the clip up
ASAP.
I was planning to do a By The Numbers column on Everton loan ace Landon Donovan from Saturday's 3-1
win over Manchester United... but changed my mind in favor of a different idea.Still, there's no
need to throw out the raw data, which you may remember comes from both typical soccer stats and
some of my own invented categories.
Let me be clear. I am not advocating a coup or even suggesting Bob Bradley will be out after this
cycle. It's a brain exercise, man.So without further ceremony, I give you the magnificent five...#5
- Frank RijkaardI'm not totally sure on this one, but part of me thinks he could maybe pull the
confidence of style out of the USMNT - make 'em play (gasp!
We have story/audio from the man himself, some quotes from manager Davie Moyes and the Match of the
Day reel from last night's game...Everton v Sunderlandvon brezmexri- Greg Seltzer
Ya know, I could swear I saw that Aris FC score as a 2-0 final. Maybe it did say that, maybe I saw
it wrong... either way, I totally flaked on the last minute goal scored by one Edward Johnson (of
the USMNT Johnsons). Furthermore, his trusty set-up man on this account opener was none other than
one Freddy Adu.
Not only does the account opening goalscorer speak to BBC post-game, but good ol' Matty has hooked
up a full match presentation for those who may have missed it.- Greg Seltzer
As predicted by my Facebook buddy Bruce of DuNord a spell ago, Clint Dempsey has just put Fulham up
with mere moments to play in leg two regulation by scoring a disturbingly gorgeous goal.Down 4-1 on
aggregate, the home side Cottagers have rallied with four, Dempsey's putting them in front. Stay
tuned for updates until the whistle and the clip.
As we near halftime, Aris FC leads 1-0 at Panionios thanks to an 11th minute sharp angle one-timer
from Eddie Johnson.- Greg Seltzer
I saw that listing on Denmark Craigslist today, not long after AGF ace Benny Feilhsber bagged his
fifth goal in three games with a stunning last gasp free kick to beat Koge 3-2.Matty has the clip.-

It sure is nice to see the good recovery vibe starting to spread, and US Soccer talks here with
Oguchi Onyewu, who took part in 30 minutes of team training on Thursday. Nice to see, indeed.- Greg
Seltzer
And if you literally scanned the 'Nats training room today, you'd probably run into Oguchi Onyewu.
He's in for some fitness testing and will be back with AC Milan this weekend.Meanwhile, AGF says
Benny Feilhaber is expected to be back in the line-up on Monday. Finally, Stuart Holden has returned
to Bolton from a rehab center and is walking without crutches.
Not only does Seba Le Toux hit the winning hat trick, he corrects the post-game reporter more
politely than any Frenchman in history. Vive le Union!- Greg Seltzer
Uh oh. Best get that league fine checkbook handy. And in other Brad Friedel news: "GRRR", "GRUNT"
and "RAAAAWRR".- Greg Seltzer
As you can see, I've switched to Afrikaans. It's another busy day, so let's again start by catching
up with the USMNT in South Africa. Later today, look for a World Cup Top 5 List here and the new
MLS Club Ladder at S365. I've also several fun items coming up at MLSsoccer.com, but you'll just
need to wait to see what they are.
I will improve the reel as better ones surface and you can look for my first U.S. Player Ratings
for MLSsoccer.com before too long. Let's start with the soundless first half highlights.UPDATE: Now
with all four goals and sound. Woohoo!- Greg Seltzer
I'll be dropping Random Thoughts at S365 before long, but then I must hit the road a bit. Posting
will be tough for a spell, but I will find a way...MLS had who knows how many Matchday 360 cameras
trained on the NYRB debut of Thierry Henry.Sticking with MLSS, Simon Borg hits the nail on the head
with D.
The Mauves new boy has nodded home beautifully just past the half hour to put his side up 1-0 at
Lokeren. The game is now at halftime.Video still to come...UPDATE: Now in the second half, 2-0
Anderlecht. And we now have a clip of the deluxe Sacha Kljestan opener!- Greg Seltzer
AGF midfielder Benny Feilhaber has bagged a hat trick, with two of the goals coming from the spot,
to see his side past Ekstra Bladet Cup foes Skive. Highlights are forthcoming, but may not be up
until tomorrow. One goal we aren't likely to see is the one by Helmond Sport handyman Charles
Kazlauskas in last night's KNVB Cup loss at Veendam.
We complete our hat trick of barnburners with the Puebla v Pachuca contest, which was decided by a
young man identified by Mexican soccer authorities as one... (Jon Stewart card check)... "Gringo
Torres". - Greg Seltzer
No suspenseful wait for this roster, which will man the USMNT against the Netherlands on
Wednesday.I'm surprised to see neither Casey nor Ching, and a little less so that Bob Bradley isn't
bringing Sacha Kljestan along. I don't have beef with these choices, just a little surprised. I
actually had figured on a few more players in the travel party, but the coach is goin' lean and
mean.
And I'm really at a loss on this one, so I need some help. Can anyone tell me what Alejandro Bedoya
did to make Carlos Bocanegra suddenly haul off and deck the kid during the goal celebration?I did
not see that coming at all.See what happens when I'm low on sleep? Just kidding, guys.- Greg
Seltzer
I'll just assume you all have hands up and turn it over to Benny Feilhaber.- Greg Seltzer
Sakes alive, fellas, work the news cycle!Anyway, MLS have offered two big bits in the last hour:The
L.A. Galaxy insist that Landon Donovan will return from Everton on March 15th, come hell or high
water, and that there's never been any opening for a loan extension from their side - and then
proceed to offer a "well.
(imagine you hear that old-timey background telegraph sound)After Landon Donovan's sub appearance
in a 2-2 draw at Birmingham, Everton manager David Moyes had this to say:"He is on a plane home
tomorrow. We are still trying to do something. You never know, who knows?"- Greg Seltzer
I have a lot just up or coming (a new MLSNet bit with Jermaine Jones, the promised Top 5 List and a
S365 Random Thoughts column), but first I'm going to occupy you kids by sticking you in front of
the TV...Let us not dilly dally - it's 2 Good 2 Bad.2 Good 2 Badvon BozWolfESPN tries to get us
primed for the new MLS season with preview roundup.
I've just had a great talk with Puebla strike ace Herculez Gomez for a S365 bit and he has
clarified a portion of the quote that, while on the club website, came from a regular Mexican media
source did a little number on his quote.Gomez did not in fact say there was direct contact with
U.S. coach Bob Bradley, and there has been none as of yet.
