Resurgent Rangers attacker DaMarcus Beasley punctuated his 90 minutes by notching a late goal and
assist in a 6-1 rout of poor Motherwell. While we wait for the clip, I should also mention that
Clint Dempsey bagged an assist in Fulham's 3-0 destruction of Manchester United today.Back shortly
with the video evidence, the resurrection has been televised.
Busy, busy, busy...#1 - New Philly forward Alejandro Moreno doesn't sound too happy about leaving
Columbus.Meanwhile, The Always Sunny Gang (I will be pushing this nickname for them, by the way)
also officially has a new keeper in Chris Seitz.#2 - K.C. Wizard and Nebraska Furniture Mart
celebrity Jimmy Conrad has a detailed and intriguing plan to move MLS forward.
Mike Grella has not only scored an extra time FA Cup winner for Leeds United, but he also added a
last minute second (a real beauty, too). I will have those clips up in a separate post when they
surface...As always, we check in with MOTD2's 2 Good 2 Bad.If you missed Live With Landon on World
Cup draw day, ESPN supplies the full 40-minute goods for belated viewing.
It's the most wonderful time of the year!I told you I'd start dispensing some holiday goodies this
week, and here is what I hope to be the first of many: having been bought out of the final 2+
seasons of hs FC Midtjylland deal, Danny Califf is headed for Philly Union. It should all be
official next week.
I've been trying to find a good quality clip of Charlie Davies' ESPN Sunday interview, but no dice.
However, a Du Nord reader hooked up a makeshift webcam version to fill the online void. We also
have a brief interview with AGF attacker Jeremiah White about his future with the club.Today, I
have so much stuff, I'm needing to be picky and make cuts.
The FC Liège site had a clip of American Niko Gkionis' first league goal from last weekend, but
now it's not working. I will keep an eye out for when that's fixed and get it posted later...We
begin with Fiorentina ace Juan Vargas, who dials long distance rather casually.Montpellier's Karim
Ait Fana hits a sick chip shot that would make Dennis Bergkamp proud.
A new Modern Family is on tonight, and I cannot wait. I discovered this show two weeks ago, went
through all nine episodes in two days and was left waiting all this excruciating time for
another...#1 - While we wait for a proper highlights clip of Leeds United's FA Cup victory form
last night, NSC pal Matty had a reader hook up an animated gif of Mike Grella's second goal, a
super-deluxe curler.

Everton says, yes, they are trying to secure a three-month loan for L.A. star Landon Donovan.A
couple of quick questions: why in the hell is MLS still playing this leash game with Donovan... and
why the hell is Donovan apparently going along with it again?Good grief, has anyone involved at the
American end bothered to notice that this is not a good situation (including, perhaps, for the
USMNT,
The match still has about 10 minutes left, but 'Gladbach midfielder Michael Bradley just got
finished applying a 4-1 coat of gloss to their lead over visiting Hannover 96 (who got one back
moments later). The U.S. got his boot at the end of a free kick to re-direct home in the 68th
minute. Clip to follow.
Gosh... I could just swear that there was some voice out there in the mist warning people not to
shovel dirt on DaMarcus Beasley's game. I will try to remember who that was while you check out Run
DMB's sweet goal (and assist) from last night's Rangers cruise.- Greg Seltzer
As I promised a few weeks back, the USMNT has officially announced a March 3rd friendly with the
Netherlands in Amsterdam. With many of you now scrambling to put together travel plans for this
one, I have the first of a few posts offering help to travelers.- I have been informed that U.S.
Soccer will indeed be selling a block of tickets for this game.
We return to our series of woe and hope to get through the last few clubs, starting with the first
of two L.A. sides picking up the pieces. Really, I could have asked 100% Soccer/Daily Breeze
all-star Nick Green to do either Home Depot Center side - but the Galaxy were still alive when I
asked him, so here we are.
Problem solved now. I'll be back tomorrow.- Greg Seltzer
The draw for the 2010 FIFA World Cup is set to kick off in about 30 minutes and we will update the
proceedings as the groups fill out. After they're done, I will attempt to make the fastest sweet 16
prediction in the world.Get your refresh button ready, the lottery basket starts spinning at 10
minutes before the top of the hour.
We're getting near the end of the series, and as promised, Fire Confidential rookie of the year Sam
Stejskal is here to explain the Chicago Fire. As you may remember, these guys were my preseason
title pick, so I'd like some answers as well. Clearly, they did not follow my instructions.NSC:
What went wrong?
Oh, don't we all just love the British soccer media - even if we hate them? Who else can
spectacular-ize every aspect of Frank Lampard's personal life, yet manages to fit at least one
factual error in nearly every story about the USMNT or one of its players?Unlike a normal AFT, I'm
just gonna roll out these English reactions to the World Cup Group C draw reading room-style:- The

We had some hot ones this weekend, but NEC giving Dutch leaders FC Twente just about all they can
handle takes the prize.- Greg Seltzer
But just a quick few because it's a very busy day. I am fervently working on a monster USMNT Top 10
List (that's right, TEN) for over at S365, I still have Who likes goals? to come here and I am
hoping to have another treat for you later. Oh, and I need to go buy a curtain. And, like, eat...#1
- The Out of Bounds blog says it was a dream World Cup draw for the USMNT.
Widespread British reports say Everton manager David Moyes has revisited and furthered previous
Landon Donovan interest by making a January loan offer for the L.A. Galaxy star.I can't be sure,
but it seems to have emanated from The Telegraph, one of three English papers with occasional
transfer talk that is actually worth a damn - so it's hardly a de facto press release, but it's
certainly far
The group phase of the Champions League is now complete. I will be putting together some sort of
video package for when you wake up, be it a Who likes midweek goals? or another concoction. For now,
your 16 teams that will go into the first knockout round draw on December 18th are:AC Milan,
Arsenal, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Bordeaux, Chelsea, CSKA Moscow, Fiorentina, Inter Milan, Lyon,
Manchester
A little late, mainly because the clips I expected to wake up to have yet to appear at all - so we
improvise...In case you forgot, a quick visual rundown of the 16 survivors. After one of the night's
crucial wins, The Special One gives his team a subtle knockout hint and talks about young striker
Mario Balotelli.
I've been asked when the third promised Top 5 List will drop. This one requires a lot of research,
so it will probably be a week, give or take. The good news is it will actually be two lists...#1 -
Everton is close to winning the loan race for Landon Donovan. From what I can gather, there are at
least two other mini-loan offers.
This one is a championship two-fer as underdogs Monterrey rallied to earn their third Primera
División crown, and it was all capped with a fitting goal tribute from Aldo Di Negris.- Greg

I am now a bakfiets expert. Moved a half-sized fridge on one just like that today, all by myself.
And that thing has no proper brake, only one hand break. It is a major workout and a trip. I wanna
do it again tomorrow...Let's begin with one of the funk-nastiest curlers I have ever seen, courtesy
of Siena's Massimo Maccarone (who has one of the coolest names I have ever seen).
I will hook up some fine T programming later on, but I'm working on a column about the USMNT and
the roller coaster that is our expectations for their World Cup 2010 fate. And in case you're
wondering that is The Screaming Eagle at the Six Flags outside St. Louis, which was the fastest
coaster in the world when I was a kid with a season pass every summer.
It's hardly a secret that fellow World Cup 2010 invitees Honduras will invade the Home Depot Center
to play the USMNT on January 23rd... but you still gotta have that ticket info, dontcha?- Greg

As promised, my riff on the incredibly mobile USMNT expectations is up at S365. But, first, we have
tuuuube..In case you missed it, the University of Virginia topped Akron on PK's to win the NCAA
men's crown this weekend.Let's not even be coy; we all love MOTD2's 2 Good 2 Bad.CNN has an

L.A. Galaxy star Landon Donovan is set to announce a loan move to Everton. The press conference is
set to begin and you can watch here. There has also been speculation that either 1) the Galaxy will
announce a sweetened contract for Donovan and/or 2) another player acquisition.Back after the
presser with the details.

The Europa League rounds of 32 and 16 were drawn this afternoon, with Clint Dempsey and Fulham
staring directly into a tie against UEFA Cup holders Shakhtar Donetsk and Tim Howard's Everton
squared off against Sporting Lisbon. As you may remember, I wildly predicted that an American would
appear in the first Europa League final before the season began.
For those who have already emailed me for Amsterdam tips, I will go through and reply to those in
just a bit. I had a interwebs outage stretch from last night to this morning and it's been a busy
day...#1 - The Landon Donovan mini-loan to Everton is done. It's a terrible situation which I
predict could soon be complicated by the Toffees not wanting to let him go.
We should claim it in the asterisk file anyway. Just after Leeds United's American striker Mike
Grella goes close with his Soccer AM Crossbar Challenge attempt, midfielder Bradley Johnson (he of
an American grandfather) does the deed. The "strike" broke a loooong drought in the weekly TV show
feature.
Manchester City extends its NSC season lead in this category by fighting off pesky Sunderland.

Things at NSC will probably slow down just a bit this week, but I'm still always on the hunt for
goodies...Let's begin with the FIFA World Club Cup extra time winner, chested home by Barcelona's
Lionel Messi. For the second time in a few weeks, Bochum's Christian Fuchs earns our free kick nod
of the week, this one a rally winner.
If anyone is still out there scrambling for my Christmas gift, here's a hint: I'd like a
teleportation machine. I think they have those at Brookstone or something...#1 - USMNT boss Bob
Bradley has called 30 players to January camp. It's mostly an MLS roster (including a couple of
head- scratchers), with a few Scandinavian-based guys.
Remember when I said my World Team of the Year would be up later this week at S365? Well, you can
make that "up tomorrow" or my name isn't Jan Vennegoor of Redenbacher...Let's begin with the 10
goals nominated for FIFA's first Puskas Award. As you probably know by now, C. Ron won this
prize.NSC pal Adam Spangler took to the streets of New York to test USMNT knowledge.
After finishing with my World Team of the Year, I taste-tested a couple of star-studded benefit
matches for you.Friends of Ronaldinho (for needy children in Brazil)Champions for Africa (for
UNICEF and to fight African poverty)- Greg Seltzer
Things will really slow down over the next two days, so I'll just go ahead and wish Christmas
revelers fully safe travels and a happy time. Now, on with the show...#1 - Former Canada defender
Jason de Vos echoes many of my concerns about Landon Donovan's Everton mini-loan. The reason I
haven't written at length about it is because I'm intrigued by the added factor of his MLS
extension a day or
The sooner I get your little ones hooked on NSC, the sooner soccer takes over the American sports
landscape... or something like that. - Greg Seltzer
