*Reporter Phil Collin went out to Galaxy practice Wednesday to get a feel for the team's mood in
the wake of its recent string of disappointing results.

*Given that I've spent much of the season gazing from the Home Depot Center press box at plenty
of empty seats during Galaxy games even though they have topped the league, I've been curious to
know what other teams are doing during this weak economy to bolster their attendance.
With the change in MLS rules regarding designated players as explained in today's column we can
also cue the speculation over potential imports this summer (it's widely accepted that with the
deadline for MLS clubs to sign overseas players under contract with another team closing April 15,
this summer will begin to see the arrival of new stars when the next registration window opens July
15, right after the World Cup).
His prayers are answered: Beckham is still the world's top earning soccer player (AP Photo)
I'm guessing, given David Beckham's injuries and lack of playing time in MLS, that $250 million
in potential earnings mentioned when he signed for the Galaxy over the life of his five-year

you're talking money like this.
*Mexico is moving cautiously on appointing a new national team coach:

Enrique Meza will handle the Aug.

At the risk of appearing a total shill for EA (I don't even play FIFA 11 and I'm sure Landon
Donovan, supposedly an accomplished player, would metaphorically spit me out like a Chivas USA
center back if we faced off video gamely speaking) after this post earlier today the EA Sports FIFA
Soccer 11 Takeover Tour comes to LA Friday through Sunday.
LA Live: World Cup soccer in downtown LA? It could happen.
Barely a month after the backers of the proposed city of Industry NFL stadium opened a soccer
front with their publicly stated desire to attract World Cup games Anschutz Entertainment Group has
released more details of their proposed downtown stadium (given a skeptical review for obvious
reasons by our sister paper the San Gabriel Valley Tribune it should be noted).
*The U.S. will play No. 10-ranked Egypt Feb. 9 in Cairo, officials confirmed today.
Coach Bob Bradley had his usual canned reaction:
"Egypt is an extremely talented and competitive team. Their performances in the
Confederations Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations have demonstrated their ability to challenge the
top teams in the world.
