Are the CAF guilty of a huge injustice?
Togo have been banned from the next two Africa Cup of Nations following their withdrawal
from this year's tournament.
The Confederation of African football (Caf) also fined the Hawks $50,000 for quitting the
competition in the wake of a gun attack on the team bus in Angola.
Gunmen opened fire with machine guns on a bus carrying Togo's football team to the Africa Cup of
Nations in Angola, wounding several players.
Officials say the shooting occurred in the Angolan oil-rich territory of Cabinda, where rebels
have been fighting for independence. The Angolan government called the incident an "act of
terrorism".

We're over the halfway stage now in Angola and it has proved to be everything I hoped for;
excitement, bags of goals, ridiculous refereeing, gravity defying longshots and abysmal defending.
What I didn't hope for was the terrible Togo shooting incident that overshadowed the earlier part
of the tournament.

Burkina Faso must be getting sick of the sight of Côte d'Ivoire. Despite an excellent run in World
Cup 2010 qualifying it was always going to be difficult to sneak into their group's top spot for
South Africa ahead of Didier Drogba and co.
Simple question and yet such a complicated answer:
- The bookies say it's going to be the on-paper favorite Ivory Coast.
- History says it will be Egypt, two-time defending champions.
- Your gut says it won't be either.
Then who will it be?
Everything, at least right now, points to two teams: Ghana & Ivory Coast.
It's right around the corner, you know. And by 'right around the corner', we mean that quite
literally: turn the corner of this week into next week and you're there. The first game kicks off
Sunday evening when tournament hosts Angola take on Mali.
So with time at a premium, let's get right down to ten things you need to know for the African
Cup of Nations.

in Angola another prestigious tournament is ready to take place.
The African Cup of Nations (ACN) kicks off this weekend, providing 16 teams with the chance to
raise the most coveted trophy in African soccer.

Last night's opening game of the African Cup of Nation was the most entertaining football match
i have watched in quite some time. Mali made a dramatic comeback from 4 goals down to ensure they
earned a point against the hosts Angola. The Palancas Negras made light work of Mali in the first
half as Flavio scored a brace to send the crowd that included the president and his wife wild in
celebration.
The Ivorians play neighbours Burkina Faso (kickoff 1600 GMT) in the opening match of Group B in
Cabinda, the enclave where two members of the Togo delegation were killed in an attack on their bus
by a separatist movement previously considered dormant.
The question of whether Togo will play in the Africa Cup of Nations following the fatal attack

AFCON tournament favourites Ivory Coast were held to a barren draw last night in Cabinda by a
Burkina Faso side that were determined to make the most out of their opening Group B encounter.
Burkina Faso, the underdogs in this match, were lucky not to concede a goal as Ivory Coast had more
than a handful of chances to score.

(And if we were to get really technical, Egypt scoring their first two goals entirely against
the run of play had to be considered an upset within the frame of the game as well.
Well we all know how the competition started but the tournament kicked off in earnest on Sunday
evening with the host nation Angola entertaining Mali. Hopes were high after all the political
wrangling that engulfed the weekend, football could return to the forefront. What no-one expected

Ghana finally get their ACN campaign underway after the sad events leading up to what would have
been their first match against Togo. A win for the Black Stars would put them in the box seat to

worries including Michael Essien who's only 50-50 for this match.
