It's been a busy weekend and Monday for Americans Abroad with several matches in Europe. In
Germany for 1860 Munich of Bundesliga 2, Kenny Cooper scored again while Brad Friedel earned an
impressive road win for Aston Villa. Tim Howard once again had little support from his offense as
Everton fell while Jonathan Spector struggled for West Ham.

The sensation of the first part of Bundesliga this season were certainly the debutants,
Hoffenheim, led by three excellent Brazilian players, as well as equally important Bosnians,
Vedad Ibisevic and Sejad Salihovic. The best striker in the first
part of the season was Ibisevic with 18 goals scored and there would probably have been even more
if he didn't earn a serious injury that saw him out for the season.

And lo, the German club football season did come to a halt. Last week the Bundesbag took you
through the final round of what has been a vintage season for the Bundesliga. If you followed us
for the last ten months as a novice, you picked the right season to get involved. You may not
encounter a campaign quite as exciting as this one but the Bundesliga will still be relied upon to
produce unpredictable results and unlikely heroes in the future.

It was a light midweek for Americans playing in Europe with most of the matches taking place in
the Scandinavian leagues. Charlie Davies played for Swedish side Hammarby, Parkhurst for FC
Nordsjælland, and unfortuantely Heath Pearce has been sent to the 2nd team of Bundesliga 2 side

Who said Americans cannot buy a break in Europe? The story of Jay DeMerit's rise from the PDL to
the EPL has been well written, but fewer have tracked the fall and then the rise of Matt Taylor
from MLS to USL to USASA to Bundesliga.
Many MLS and USL fans remember Taylor. While at UCLA, Taylor played in the PDL for the Orange
County Blue Star, and for eleven games he was paired up top alongside Jurgen Klinsmann.

In a weekend that turned out to be a score-fest for Americans Abroad, Clint Dempsey stole the
show as he knocked in a brace to help Fulham defeat Manchester City, 3-1.
Dempsey, who upped his total of goals this season to seven, was not the only American to hit
a brace this weekend however.

It's almost impossible not to feel a frisson of nostalgia when 'Gladbach and Bayern play each
other. In the 1970's these two giants of the game fought like titans for Bundesliga supremacy.
Think of those days and you think of Franz Beckenbauer and Gunter Netzer. These days its Bayern
with the upper hand.

If you follow German football a bit more than casually, you almost certainly know the name Patrick
Helmes. If you've paid attention to Die Mannschaft callup sheets even sporadically, you've probably
seen his name. But Patrick hasn't become a household name quite yet. Having spent the last two
years in the Bundesliga.

March is finally here and we're deep into the heart of the domestic season. Many of you will be
happily supporting your team as they bumble along in the Premier League, La Liga, the Bundesliga
and so on, but we'd bet the shirts on our backs that you've probably forgotten all about the teams
that were relegated last Summer.
