Obviously the true bargains won't be known for some time, but there were a few transfers which
caught the eye before the participants had even put on their new shirt. Eliminating loans made sure
somebody has actually bought up the entire contract this summer, and everyone of these guys
happened to come in at under [.
Sadly, we could've turned this thing into an all-Prem list, but did our best to look elsewhere.
Didn't turn out so well. The problem is so many sums paid in the Premiership dwarf that of those in
other leagues - Serie A, Bundesliga, La Liga, Ligue 1, etc. - that it can make their normally [...]
There's really only a couple (well, one to be specific) deal that many people followed on transfer
deadline day, but while many looked to see if Dimitar Berbatov would sign for Manchester United and
who Manchester City would nab with their newly-acquired mega-riches, many watched the window to see
if someone would come through the [.
The world is being set alight by ever younger players, and they will be the superstars of the
future. I have handpicked 18 players (11 starters and 7 subs) for the team of the future. GK: Igor
Akinfeev (Russia, CSKA Moscow, 22) At age 22, the Russian goalie is still young but is already
world-class, and his [.
Every Bundesliga team has been jointly liable to run a youth academy since 2002, moreover, it is
one of the eligibility criterias to obtain the club license. The annual operation is supervised by
the DFB, itself. Last year, an astonishing ~ €70 million was invested in the new generations.
Not in vain.
Fresh off of last week's 5-2 win over Bayern Munich, Werder Bremen welcomed fairytale team
Hoffenheim to the Weserstadion.... and put five past them too. Bremen actually surged into a 4-1
lead, Hoffenheim pulled back to 4-4, before Mesut Özil scored a late winner for the home team.
Victory in a nine goal thriller, and five [.
1. Bring back Martin Jol and Sam Allardyce Hamburg are currently top of the Bundesliga under Martin
Jol. Spurs are currently bottom of the Premier League under Juande Ramos. Newcastle's league
position when Sam Allardyce was "left by mustual consent": 11th. Newcastle's league
position today: 19th. 2.
Another fun weekend abroad for Americans. Some played very well and others either did not or didn't
play at all. We had a couple game-winners from Americans, and a couple guys on the wrong end of a
defeat. If there are players I forgot to list feel free to list them below, also if anything is
[...]
Michael Bradley's move from Heerenveen in the Dutch League to Borussia Mönchengladbach in the
German Bundesliga is a great move. It is a step up for Bradley in terms of competition, and after
the success he had last season its the next logical step for him. Many Dutch players follow this
path of moving to a club in the Bundesliga for this exact same reason.
Raphael Honigstein is a German journalist and author who works as an English football correspondent
for German media as well as his more prominent role as a German football correspondent for English

...and as you can imagine, competition is fierce. Check out Mike Werner of Hansa Rostock, to your
left. Scare-ree. He looks like a normal human climbed into The Fly machine with a hedgehog. Why are
Bild inflicting these gruesome stylings on everyone again? The German paper (now with English
language website) is celebrating the launch of [.
After hundreds (at least) of news bits over the last few months, we're finally almost at the end of
the summer transfer window. There's a lot yet to happen on the final day of the window, but I'm
here to get you caught up on all of the latest signings and speculation. England So, [...]
Borussia Dortmund's Bosnian-American Neven Subotic was named to La Gazzetta Dello Sport's
European Best 11 today after another strong performance this weekend. For the second time in three
weeks, he combined stout defending with offensive contributions, scoring the game winnner for the
second in the young season, this time against Energie Cottbus.
English Premier League FULHAM 0 BLACKBURN 1 In what has surely been a nightmare season so far for
the Texan, Dempsey was left on the bench for Fulham's 1-0 loss to Blackburn this morning.
Matt Derbyshire made the difference in the 84th minute after coming on for Treacy, shooting low and
hard past Mark Schwarzer.
I warned everybody last week that all hell was going to break loose in the WCR
Top 25 and I didn't lie. This week we have eight new clubs in the WCR Top 25, including five
teams debuting in the Top Ten, including Lazio, Valencia and Bayer Leverkusen. The reason for
this is that last season's results were removed from the statistics used to determine the countdown
and the numbers got jumbled in England, Germany, Italy and Spain.
New Hertha Berlin signing Andriy Voronin is excited by the prospect of playing in the Bundesliga
after joining on loan from Liverpool.
The Ukraine striker was a deadline-day arrival from Anfield and is looking forward a second stint
in Germany having plied his trade there for 12 years before moving to Merseyside in the summer of
2007.

Schalke, currently sitting at the top of the Bundesliga, have surged ahead to the peak of another,
less prestigious table - the goalkeeper injury table. First choice keeper Manuel Neuer has yet to
make an appearance this season, having broken his fifth metatarsal during a pre-season friendly
against SpVgg Erkenschwick (currently playing in the [.
Raul has scored 61 goals in the Champions League - his closest rival being his teammate Ruud van
Nistelrooy at 53. Can any of the younger crop of players - Messi, Ronaldo, Benzema, Torres etc -
catch up with the likes of Raul, Ruud, Sheva (47) and Henry (45) or is the age of the pure [...]

Good afternoon folks and welcome to the first installment of Emptying the Notebook. I plan on
making this a weekly segment where I touch on all the topics and stories I wasn't able to get to
during the week.
According to this article on Sports Illustrated's website, Bayern Munich were interested at one
point in signing Landon Donovan and may still sign him during the winter transfer period. The
article describes how Bayern's manager Jurgen Klinsmann was interested in signing Landon, but the
Board of Directors were concerned because of Landon's previous experiences in the Bundesliga.
Shalke have fined their right back Rafinha $1,000,000. His crime? Going AWOL from club duty to
represent Brazil at the Olympics. Rafinha is basically a victim of the CAS ruling that clubs didn't
have to release under-23 players for Olympic duty. But still, one million dollars? That's a hefty
sum even for a top flight footballer.
Sierra Leone striker Sahr Senesie is currently on trial with the New York Red Bulls. The 23 year
old striker began his career in the Borussia Dortmund youth ranks and has appeared in 24 Bundesliga
matches with Dortmund. He was most recently on trial with English side Nottingham Forrest, prior to
that he had a brief spell with Swiss club Grasshoppers.

Milwaukee, Wisconsin has long been known as the home of the Cunninghams and Arthur Fonzarelli, the
home of Harley-Davidson motorcycles and the beer capital of the world.
Tomorrow, albeit temporarily, Milwaukee adds another title: Soccer Blogging Capital of America. By
sheer coincidence, at least six of America's soccer bloggers will converge on the Cream City.
Do we have another match-fixing scandal on our hands? In an interview published by German news
magazine Der Spiegel on Monday, award-winning Canadian journalist Declan Hill gave accounts that
detail the manipulation of Ghanaian matches in the 2006 World Cup, most notably the second round
match between Ghana and Brazil, which was won 3-0 by [.
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge thinks so. Yesterdat, the Bayern Munich chairman told Premiere TV: "The
English are ahead of the rest of Europe. The Bundesliga is a long way behind clubs like Manchester
United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal. When you look at the potential they have it will be a
surprise if the English don't dominate as they [.
A hat trick by Patrick Helmes and an unrelenting offense saw Bayer Leverkusen take apart Hannover
96 tonight. The illness and injury riddles Reds, were humiliated by Bayer 04, but also their lack
of fight as they seemed disinterested in the proceedings. Bayer have the most fluid attack in the
Bundesliga with [.
Well who's the Big Bad Wolf now? Werder Bremen went into Bayern's house and put on an absolute
demolition derby, taking a 5-0 lead until Bremen's newly old boy Tim Borowski got a couple back for
Bayern in the 71st & 85th. No red cards, just good old fashioned goal scoring from Markus Rosenberg
(2), [.
Liverpool striker Andriy Voronin has agreed a one-year loan deal with German side Hertha Berlin,
the Anfield club have announced.
The Ukraine international signed for Liverpool on a Bosman free transfer last summer and scored six
goals in 27 appearances.
However, the impact of Fernando Torres restricted his first-team opportunities and Robbie Keane's
arrival this summer forced him further down the pecking order, prompting the forward to move back
to the Bundesliga, where he previously played for Bayer Leverkusen, Cologne, Mainz and Borussia
Monchengladbach.

Eintracht Frankfurt were supposed to be play Karlsruhe on Friday night in the Bundelsiga. But that
didn't happen, and it's all Madonna's fault. Actually it's Madonna's fans' fault. Madge performed
at Frankfurt's Commerzbank-Arena on Tuesday night and apparently her fans trampled the grass,
presumably dancing a little too enthusiastically to "Like a Virgin" et al.
The only thing worse than Mario Gómez's choice in sleeve length was his performance at Euro
2008. He missed more or less everything. But Mario's not so super Swissaustrian adventure was the
exception not the rule, and he's already found the target twice for Stuttgart this season. So
ill-advised short sleeves or not Mario Gómez is [.
