- Maradona and his 1986 World Cup-winning Argentina teammates have agreed to an unofficial rematch with the English side that El Diego scored the 'Hand of God' goal against in the quarterfinals of that competition. Peter Reid, a member of the English squad, had this to say:"This is our chance to show what we can do and get a little bit of revenge." Sounds kind of sad to me, old men not being able to let bygones be bygones.

The drama surrounding Michael Ballack took a further turn today. After being excluded from Chelsea's Champions League squad because he may not be fit for most of the group stages (Joachim Low and the German NT doctors disagree), Ballack was also prevented from filming a publicity shoot for Adidas, the main sponsor of the German [...]

International football is all very nice. Especially if you're Scottish. But with the Women's World Cup now in full swing, the menfolk get back to the bread and butter of good old fashioned domestic football.

- 25-year-old Derby County striker/right winger Craig Fagan has been charged by the Football Association with stomping Liverpool defender Alvaro Arbeloa in Saturday's 6-0 massacre of the Rams at Anfield. I watched this match and vividly remember the incident that is being referred to and I have to say, it looked pretty intentional. Fagan did not look off-balance at all and appeared to take a deliberate step on Arbeloa's calf after losing the ball to him out-of-bounds.

- This is interesting, according to Wigan midfielder Jason Koumas, Craig Bellamy quit us because of Rafa's rotation. Quit us? Who is Bellamy kidding? He barely had one foot in the door before most fans wanted him gone. The bottom line is, he just wasn't good enough for us. Too many offsides and not enough creativity. Room for Torres and Voronin were needed and Craig B had to go.

Hello, I'm standing in for Duffman this week while he tears his hair out moving house. Leverkusen continued their good start with a 2-1 win at Nurnburg. Still looking for their first home win, only Cottbus have had worse start than Nurnberg. Poor old Cottbus must have thought they were on the brink of something to kick-start their season when they went in at half-time still holding Bayern at 0-
