Netherlands vs. Bulgaria, 1430 EST
Amsterdam Arena - Amsterdam
A win here for the Dutch puts them in a decent position to advance. Playing at home and having one
of the best squads in the world, you've got to think they'll pull it off, but with the Oranje, you
never know. They were unimpressive in their recent loss to Switzerland, but it was only a
meaningless friendly.
Norway 2, Greece 2
Wow, what a first half. As the score indicates, neither team is playing very solid defense. Norway
appears to be the more dominate side and probably should be ahead had Carew not squandered a
one-on-one with the Greek keeper. It was a tough angle though. This has been an intense affair so
far as nearly two 'disagreements' have occurred.
Finally, we have group G and arguably the biggest match of the day as the Dutch travel to Romania.
Both countries sit atop their group table with 20 points, though the Romanians have the tie-breaker
due to overall goal difference. The Netherlands will be missing their number one, Edwin Van der
Sar, and striker Dirk Kuyt, while Romania is seemingly fully fit.
- Let me first say that it would not bother me even for a second if Gerrard 'retired' from
international play. Yes, I know that would never happen, since Stevie-G loves his country nearly as
much as he loves his club, but one can dream, can't they? At least I hope so. Anyhow, it looks as
if England boss Steve McClown has finally seen the light and decided to give Gerrard the kind of
freedom alloted him at LFC.
From the wonderful, bear-soaked world of Bulgarian soccer: A clash between two rival brewers over a
beer ad could prevent Dimitar Penev from taking the reins of Bulgaria's national team, it emerged
on Wednesday. Bulgarian FA and national team sponsor Zagorka threatened to sue the football body
for EUR 1M [$1.4M] if it employed Penev, who appears in a TV advert for competitor Kamenitza.
