Whatever happens tonight it's the last game of the season at Home Depot Center with a trip to
MLS Cup 2009 in Seattle against either the Chicago Fire or Real Salt Lake in the offing for the
winner.
Looks like another good playoff crowd gradually filling in with the temperature about 60 degrees
and excellent for football.

Houston travels to L.A. on Friday to take on the Galaxy for the Western Conference crown. This
is the matchup of all matchups. The two best teams in the West (which makes it all the more funny
that RSL is in the East and yet the city is farther west than Houston, but who's counting
really?

Well, my laptop just died so I'm depending on the kindness of coworkers here to blog
(sporadically).
Here's the scenario: if the Galaxy win they'll face the Houston Dynamo at home 8 o'clock Friday;
if Chivas USA wins they'll travel to Houston for a Sunday game.
There's just one change for the Galaxy today: Chris Birchall has fallen ill (nothing serious I'm
told), so Chris Klein replaces him in midfield.

I think we have the edge in today's match. But don't count Chivas out. When it's a derby match,
each team can play their best soccer of the season. Today it should be the Galaxy. If Buddle is on
his game today, we will be unstoppable.
I'm so nervous/excited that I can't think of anything else intelligent to say.

An important game for two teams with identical records as the regular season winds down and
playoff implications on the line.
Lovely warm fall night here at Home Depot Center; let's hope the crowd fills in.
Not surprisingly, Galaxy Coach Bruce Arena has rung the changes in the wake of the disappointing
2-0 loss to Columbus last weekend.

I'm giddy as a school girl! I leave for the match in about 3 hours. Since I live in podunk
Virginia, it will be a bit of a drive to get to DC. I've even made a sign that may or may not be
like the title of this post. If they let me bring it in, it will be across the field from the
camera on the left-ish side, near the corner flag.

The Chicago Fire take on the Los Angeles Galaxy tonight at Toyota Park. No David Beckham, but LA
still does have a strong road record while the Fire don't have the best home numbers.
I'll be watching so I decided to do a running commentary. Whether you are watching, or stuck
somewhere you can't watch, please feel free to follow along here.

He just tweeted his latest injury.
Buddle has started just eight MLS games this season because of a succession of injuries.

Assuming that many of the USA players who are on the World Cup qualifying and Confederations Cup
rosters will not be on the Gold Cup team, here is my pool of players that I see the 23 Gold Cup
players coming from.
There are 78 here in total.
Who should or should not be in my list, and who would be your first 11?

Our Galaxy (1-1-9) takes on Toronto FC (4-4-4) on the road in
a matinee match this afternoon. You can catch it on FoxSportsWest, or on Direct Kick if you've got
it, at 1:00pm Pacific.
Next, head on over to ESPN or Galavision to watch the US Men's National Team
take on Honduras in Chicago at 5:00pm Pacific.

What do I keep saying in each preview? "Hey! We can win this one!"
I'm beginning to think we're snatching draws from the jaws of victory. And that was definitely
true for last week's Sounders match.
But as a lifelong L.A. Galaxy fan, only last year's season can make this year look so good!

That game totally and completely qualifies as "pulling one out of your ass".
As a Galaxy fan, this game was a tie that felt like a victory. Not only are we the first team to
take points at Rio Tinto this season, but pulling it out in the 95th minute AFTER conceding a
penalty kick showed the major difference between this year's team and the previous two.

Lovely evening for football at Rio Tinto Stadium where the temperature is a balmy 68 degrees,
the field immaculate and the snow-capped Wasatch Mountains glistening in the background.
The Galaxy have made just one change to the team that beat New York 1-0 last weekend with
Stefani Miglioranzi playing in midfield in place of Josh Tudela who retreats to the bench.

First off, my thoughts are with Palos Verdes Peninsula resident Bill Mason this evening, a
long-time AYSO referee and a score board operator for the Galaxy, who I discovered tonight had a
stroke last Sunday and is in intensive care at Torrance Memorial Hospital. Bill has struggled with
ill health for some time and certainly didn't need this, so let's hope he's back in the press box
soon.

The Suck Bowl.
My husband is a lifelong New Orleans Saints fan. For years now whenever the Saints play a
team with an equally poor record he calls it "The Suck Bowl." A fitting moniker for
the game but the game usually ends up being quite entertaining. A sucky offense against a
sucky defense?

Tomorrow afternoon, the Wizards return to Arrowhead Stadium to take on David Beckham and the Galaxy
at 4 pm. Both team's are struggling right now, as since the all star break, the two are a combined
1-7-5. LA hasn't won since June. KC's only win since the all star break was a game against Chivas
USA that they probably should have only gotten a point out of.

Good evening folks. I was able to work my way through the third of four parts of the most recent
SBI Q&A session. There some very good and interesting questions in this batch, including asking for
my takes on best American field players ever and best strikers in the world right now. There's a
little something for everybody.

The Galaxy looked sharper than they had in weeks last Saturday against the Revolution, which
bodes well for the run they will have to make in order to get into the playoffs. However, this
Saturday MLS has, in its infinite wisdom, decided to schedule league matches concurrently with a
FIFA World Cup qualifier date.

Turns out Bruce Arena's first Galaxy team looks a lot like Ruud Gullit's last team - not that
he's got many options of course.
David Beckham is on his way to China for the Olympics closing ceremonies, Landon Donovan is
recovering from last night's Guatemalan hackfest, um, game, Carlos Ruiz is now a Toronto player,
eh, and new signing Eddie Lewis has the evening off too, recovering from the nasty blow to the head
he took, no doubt.

I've been sitting on this photo since the last week of last season. That was that pivotal
"winner makes the playoffs" match between LA & Chicago that was one of the high points of
2007. Just like a the final episode of Six Feet Under it had drama & closure and it left you
wanting more. But due to the curse of FIFA dates, stadium availabilities etc.

Blogging could be problematic tonight because of problems with the tubes and wires of the
Internet thingie here at the Home Depot Center so bear with me (hey, it's only a $150 million
stadium).
But former U.S. Coach Bruce Arena is in the building this evening so you know what that means.
He didn't come all the way out from the East Coast just to watch.

Everyone has an opinion about Becks, it seems. Even those who know little about MLS. It amused me
that the BBC would take in the NY/LA game, watch Juan Pablo Angel's goal, Van Den Bergh's cracker,
Buddle's dribble and chip and come away with the description of "second-division
football".
Ah well.

He was a laughing stock, awkward, enigmatic, inconsistent, a full of potential but far from
reaching it kind of a player. Now? He's got his own T-shirt.
Hat trick Buddle? Who saw this coming?

Thinking back on last years epic encounter, and awaiting this years confrontation, one has to be
astounded by the difference a year has made. Here are a couple of things that stick out most for
me:
1) The Bulls are trying to avoid the basement, while the Galaxy are trying to steal away first
place from Real Salt Lake.

Chivas USA draw in the most recent battle for LA. Chivas USA scored there only point through
Ante Razov with a spectacular strike from outside the box. To be fair, he deserves goal of the
week... again.
Brad was Brad stopping almost every shot on goal. Buddle snuck one past.
Shavar Thomas is back in the fold and played great.

He may be tied for the league lead in goals, but Edson Buddle didn't seem to be letting that puff
him up too much.
He still doesn't like turf, though he'd like to play in the All-Star Game. He's especially
self-deprecating when talking about his national team chances.

DCUMD 29 June @ 01:17 PM EST
After a couple of underwhelming victories the past few weeks, this win was just what United needed
to not only continue their unbeaten streak, but also gain some confidence going into Superliga.
Recently, United has been beating lesser opponents while giving up too many goalscoring
opportunities. But in this match, against inarguably one of the most talented offensive teams in
the league, DC dominated possession, dominated the scoreline, and performed admirably well on
defense.

There are many reasons to love the European Champions, but my favorite is the lack of a
third-place playoff. As you know we align ourselves with Glengarry Glen Ross on third-place . . .
although we aren't sure the EUROs give a Caddy for first place. (What is the European equivalent to
the big-ass, gas-guzzling, ostentatious Cadillac El Dorado?

Normally I don't condone talking about a players race, religion, sexuality or wife & children. But
in the cae fo the photo above, the Screaming Eagles kind of have a point. Sorry Posh, but they can
hit them highs in way that you can't...they are the Mariah Carey of supporters groups.
Depending on what part of the country you are in you'll need to either skip church, wake up early

we're calling "The Nooner" here at TOR Towers.

Week 13 already?
Looks like we're doing well though. Landon Donovan and Edson Buddle are #1 and #2
respectively on the MLS high-scoring list. A Galaxy player has captured 6 of the last 12 MLS
Player of the Week awards. We lead the Western standings. So far so good!
The Columbus Crew come to the HDC with a record of 7-4-1 versus our record of 6-4-2.
