So, Fabio Capello quits as the England national coach. This is, perhaps, unsurprising
considering the dog's abuse that he has taken while leading the national team through an almost
flawless qualification campaign, before finding that the decision over who would take the England
captain's arm-band was taken away from him without consultation.

Given the furore at Leeds yesterday, we thought it would be fairly timely to
put together Pies' pick of the ten English-based football managers that, for one reason or another,
are almost impossible to foster a begrudging respect for let alone take to your heart.
The statistics this morning read; Manchester United joint top but still second in the table due to
an inferior goal difference compared to that of Manchester City. Our neighbours lost thanks to
a...

Bryan Robson recalls the day United overcame a title winning Liverpool side at Maine Road in the

Andrew Cole has reflected on memories of his former Manchester United team mate and manager when
he was at Sunderland, Roy Keane, following his very public falling out with Sir Alex Ferguson.
"I was trying to sleep in a Hong Kong hotel when I heard the banging in the corridor,"
said Cole.
Sir Alex Ferguson has sung the praises of Manchester United's Brazilian twins, Rafael and Fabio
Da Silva, and hopes that the injuries which have seen them miss so much of the season so far will
become more infrequent the older they get.
"The two of them are terrific talents," said Ferguson.

Gary Neville: Can Liverpool change mentality to give Gerrard the title he
craves?
The fact that Liverpool haven't won the title for 20 years needs addressing. United in the Bryan
Robson days were very much like Liverpool today.

Once upon a time Thailand stood imperious at the biennial SEA Games. They won the trophy eight
years straight, they deemed it their own personal cup and winning was a right.
Not anymore. For the second successive competition the Thais failed to proceed beyond the group
stage. Two years ago in Vientiane the vitriolic Thai media had Steve Darby to blame.
England 1:0 Spain
Wembley Stadium, London
Wembley was full, sold on the dream of the king's touch, as the world's No.1
soccer nation Spain dropped by for an evening.
A strange pre-match atmosphere, as the usual patriotic fantasy rang increasingly hollow: No-one
expected England to win and most were hoping for a defeat short of embarrassing.
People talk to me about Barcelona's current team as the greatest ever. I even hear stories about
the Ajax side that had Johan Cruyff. The AC Milan side with the Dutch trio of Riijkaart, Van Basten
and Gullit is always mentioned as well. Hell, even United's 1999 treble team has been dubbed as one
of the best.

Perhaps I'm showing my age but Robbie Fowler most definitely ain't of my era. I was getting
ensconced in Bangkok as he started making ripples in the Premier League and I remember him scoring
a quick fire hat trick for Liverpool against Arsenal in one of his early games.
Now I've moved on from Bangkok and he has moved there.

Michael Vaughan is the England cricket captain, and he was able to Thursday night's function at Old
Trafford to celebrate 25 years of Sir Alex Ferguson's reign at Manchester United.
Vaughan wrote of the lessons learned from the Manchester United manager.
It was a huge honour for me to be in that room, filled with the great players of the last
quarter century and beyond.

Having won 12 Premiership titles and 2 European Champions League's, along with plenty of other
cups and trophies, Sir Alex Ferguson is quite clearly the most successful manager of the past two
decades.
Some, like Pep Guardiola, have achieved great success over a period of a couple of seasons with
a largely inherited team.
Sky Sports were quick to anoint Scott Parker with the man of the match award after yesterday's
win over QPR but were there better contenders on the day?
Sky rightly suggested that everything that was good about our play seemed to begin with Scott
but has he evolved into the Bryan Robson of the present day who only needs to step onto the pitch
to receive such awards?
I just bought an A4 print of a 1992-1994 Manchester United home kit Subbuteo player. I'm not a
massive fan of Subbuteo, but there's something about the aesthetic of it all that pleases me on a
very base level. So much so that having ordered the print I had to stop myself from going to Ebay
and buying numerous teams decked out in classic United kits.
Over the last 21 years, the England national team has persistently failed at the World Cup and the
European Championships. Blame has regularly been attributed to failed managers, and the so-called
'Golden Generation' of pampered Premier League primadonnas. However, there is one common
denominator underpinning England's continual failure, and that is the negative influence of
Manchester United players.

Gary Neville has reflected on Wayne Rooney's red card in England's Euro 2012 qualifying game
against Montenegro on Friday.
"What gets me is that now everyone will get caught up in the circus and furore surrounding
the sending-off," said Neville. "The most disappointing thing about his red card is that
it distracts from the major issue.
Hibernian striker Garry O' Connor (28) was in hiding last night after the 16 times
capped Scottish striker was accused of failing a drugs test in 2009/10 while
playing for Birmingham City in the Premier League.
And to add insult to injury it is alleged that O'Connor was also charged with fraud after his
£100,000 Ferrari was mysteriously found crashed a few short miles from his home a few months
ago.
The Midfield – The Engine Room of MUFC Success Written by Rob B. It's without doubt the most
common game MUFC fans get to play over their lifetime. It's your typical ‘Who Is Your Favourite

One of the worries I've had this summer is about the number of experienced players, who have
been brought up in the United way, have left the club this year. Gary Neville, Paul Scholes, John
O'Shea and Wes Brown have all moved on, whether to retirement or another club, and I can't help but
wonder whether this will have any effect on the players coming up through the ranks at the
moment.
Why Bryan Robson deserves his financial reward unlike mercenaries Modric, Cesc and
Tevez
I stumbled across an interview the other day which had me beating the table as wildly as Rupert
Murdoch in denial. It was given last summer by Luka Modric, after he'd signed a new deal at
Spurs.
101 Great Goals has footage of our 7-0 win over Seattle Sounders.
Annie Eaves writes for The Mirror about how Carlos Tevez saved the derby.
The Daily Mail reckons Bryan Robson has been in touch with his lawyers after allegations made
about him in recent Dispatches programme.
CSN Chicago interviews STR ahead of United's game against Chicago Fire.
Perhaps the least surprising aspect of this evening's "Dispatches" programme on the subject of
the London Nominees Football Fund has been the almost jaded reaction that it immediately received
in some quarters. This isn't a criticism of those offering such weariness in the face of yet
another programme detailing one of the ways in which a shady group of businesspeople can plunder
our game, but it does serve to act as a reflection upon the way in which the game is now run in
this country.

"Keane is the hottest prospect in football right now," Brian Clough said of Roy in his
last season at Nottingham Forest. Jack Walker was trying to buy Blackburn success, something he
would later go on to achieve, and Kenny Dalglish identified Keane as the man to take the club
forward in 1993.
It's not been the best of times for the British contingent in the Thai Premier League. Coach David
Booth was sacked from Si Sa Ket. Peter Butler was sacked from BEC Tero. Bryan Robson and Steve
Darby quit from their posts with the Thai national team. Scotsman Steven Robb went a couple of
months without getting paid.
Following on from Peter Reid and Bryan Robson can we expect the Thai FA to continue to look to
England's World Cup squad for its coaches? Specifically the midfield?
In that case can we expect to hear that Steve Hodge has been announced as the new Thai coach? Or
Trevor Steven? Or even Ray Wilkins?
Thai FA head Worawi Mukadi has hinted that former national team coach Peter Withe could be
considered to replace Bryan Robson who stepped down earlier this week for health reasons. Withe is
currently without a job and was very successful during his last spell with the club.
Mind you Mukadi, in an unusually perceptive moment said that Thai fans wanted a Thai coach.
